Why do we let EVO treat us like this?

I don't mind Aris I think he is funny and entertaining. I do feel bad for the twins who gave up playing at the tourney and then didn't get to commentate top 8. The other huge issue I had and possibly one of the reasons why the tourney got soo delayed was the constant breaks. It was one break after each three fights. Why? this only prolonged the thing up to 2 am in the morning.

While that all sounds terribly frustrating, from a higher level view I think this all can be as symptoms of growing pains that EVO is going through as it transitions from the largest grassroots FG tournament to an even larger scale E-sports event.

Things like commentary choice, separate venues, etc. I can all see as being because of payment agreements, union contracts, and even larger regulation. When you have someone like ESPN at your scene you have multiple orders of magnitude larger amounts of logistical (including legal and contractual) issues. As just an example, having Ketchup and Mustard commentate top 8 may have created some additional legal headaches when it comes to payment of non-US citizens. That stuff doesn't really matter when it's just grassroots, but now that Evo is working with some major league broadcasters, I wouldn't be surprised if they're contractually obligated to cross more Ts and dot more Is than any FGC tournament before.

Everything seems fair beside the UltraDavid concern, he is by far as much as a NRS community member as anyone else in this community that is considered NRS 'exclusive'.
I know he lurks about and keeps up to date, but he is an SF guy at heart, K&M understand SFV, but do you think the SFV community would be happy for them to commentate their top 8?

It just seems to be a slap in the face to those who really have put in the hard work for our community.

Ok lets say that because of the international payment factor you cant use K&M, we still have:

- Chef
- KP
- Brady
- Pig
- 16 bit

I have heard this from a few people now.

This tournament from a viewers standpoint looked like crap (to put it in a nice way).

CEO will always be my favorite tournament, I have been to 2 EVOs and nothing compares to CEO. The atmosphere is electric at all times, and everything ALWAYS RUNS smooth. Major props to @Kitana Prime and @CEO Jebailey for that. I am trying to fill the void for KP so he can commentate at CEO or other majors.

The finals for commentary was good and fun, but not what I want when I go back and watch it 3 years from now, I want the player knowledge from someone like 16bit or Pig or Brady or Kitana Prime. While Aris and Ultra David are well knowledged they just don't have the history that our NRS commentators do.

To the finals. First of all seeing cR Dragon pissed me off, THERE WAS A HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT ON OUR SIGNING OF DRAGON, He wore a EVB Jersey all weekend. The first to Top 8 matches had horrible production, nothing seemed to be organized. Players not coming up 1 at a time, no kind of intro just some guy yelling. The camera angle was AWFUL showing all of the empty seats in the stadium. That looks horrible for NRS games.

If was @A F0xy Grampa is saying is true with the no seats thing, then that needs to be fixed. There was open room all over the place and seats need to be there. Having players sitting on the ground or half way across the venue is plain stupidly.

Honestly I wish more NRS players would come to CEO over EVO. EVO needs to limit the amount of games they add so they can give every game quality production. This years EVO production wise seemed like garbage, but since EVB had a great showing it I can't hate on it too much.

Also, MKX needs to be 3/5, pools should of started on Friday and continued Saturday. This year was horrible for the players and the viewers.

I think Combo Breaker would be a good choice

NRS Home town
Ability to coordinate with Killer Instinct community (also Chicago home town, almost equal pool sizes)
Semi-Central location
ComboBreaker seems very player oriented (as opposed to spectator) with the 24 hour venue

I attended last years Evo (and 2013, or whenever the last MK9/ 1st Injustice one was). Last year was great in the aspect that MK and KI were at the same venue, MKX was new, etc. However once the Mandalay Bay/Convention Center venue was announced I realized that it was a different ball game as primarily a spectator. It's like having to go to some mega music festival to see your favorite band - great for the band but can be an overall pain in the ass.

Well, if we were to switch our focus to another major, my vote is for KiT. Vandy runs a great tournament by all accounts, and he clearly cares about NRS games. I mean we even got an I:GAU throwback tournament thanks to him.

Combo Breaker would also be a great choice.

It's dissapoiting to hear this, purely from a viewer perspective i had a good time(although there were more breaks than it should imo). I hope things improve so players don't get discouraged.

My bad, I didn't know that all of those guys applied. If UltraDavid and Aris are going to be at Mandalay Bay the entire day, though, that's a few less checks they'll have to cut.

It for sure sucks, but I'm hopeful that this evo is a learning experience for the team and that they can better optimize the experience for everyone in future years.

I would have rather had Tyler & Derek doing commentary...not because they're "good" at it, but like you said, the Top 8 is OUR time, for OUR scene, OUR game & OUR community.

I love Aris & David, and have the upmost respect for them as people and in the FGC, but Denom said it best "they're not OUR commentators". So don't anyone get this twisted about those 2 guys.

Man I wanted to go to Evo for the first year of Injustice 2 but damn, sounds like I'd be better off at CEO or something.

How does the community go forward in switching to a new tournament as its biggest tourney? I doubt you can just send an email to everybody and notify them lol. It'd need to be like a year of everybody spreading the word that KiT/CeO or whatever is our new Evo.

Why show the NRS scene any love? One of the smallest games that were there as far as registrants, and people can pretty much assume SonicFox will win. The MKX tournament gamers, the results are in, and Maury even says that SonicFox IS your father.
This argument only makes sense for when a game is for streaming purposes. Treating the people who paid for a well ran tourney experience like garbage and then saying "well who cares? There's barely any of them!" is ridiculous. Why show them any love? Because 700 people paid into the idea that EVO would deliver as TO's and as a tournament, and if AFG is to be believed, it didn't.

Aris hypes Aris, the games come second. I wanted to strangle him and his fucking streaming catchphrases. The sucked the HYPE more than seeing Acidic Alien in the last match.

I can't wait for PewDiePie commentating in the Street Fighter V Grand Fin... oh, it's only MK that gets the shaft.

Asian Dana White was the highlight of the stream for me.

Adulthood should teach you that shit rolls down hill. And at Evo, MKX is the shit rolling down the hill. And that little turd that is MKX has to pass the baton to Injustice 2 when it gets to the bottom.

I don't disagree with any of the points you've made @A F0xy Grampa but I'll give my point of view regardless.

First up on my list is pool judges, most of them are fine but I seem to have the worst fucking luck in the world when it comes to pool judges. My first one left before my pool was finished, didn't give any reason just clears off right before losers finals.

So after the match me and my opponent spent a good half an hour going around the entire venue hall finding the right place to find our bracket sheet to report the final result. Next judge was for the next round of pools and waited almost 45 minutes for players past the time of check in. They should have been DQ'd, you always know what time and what station you're supposed to be playing in. There is no excuse for being that late to your next pool.

Seating area is a huge problem this year. Past Evos have always had a lot of available seats in the hall pools are being run in, having to stand for over 12 hours straight is ridiculous.

Stream station and set up was also very bad this year. Located half way between tow different areas that had the stage and the smash pools and then moves to another location that is half way between promo stuff and the stage. Again no where to sit and at least when Evo was in a hotel/casino you had carpet to sit on. Plain concrete does not for a very comfort seat.

Cannot agree more on commentary. I love UD and Aris on commentary but some of the things they say are just downright cringe worthy. They also don't know the back story to players and precious encounters. Good example being Tekken Master, we know who that guy is and how good he is. To the uninformed it seemed like a total nobody came out of nowhere and almost beat SonicFox. That shit does not look good.

This Evo might have been "the biggest yet" or whatever but to me it felt like the least special. This is my 4th in a row and I feel like a lot of the atmosphere wasn't there.

I don't feel the 8am time slot would have been as big a deal if the venue wasn't as far away. It aslo didn't help that there was fuck all direction for Evos location once you in the arena centre. On my way out I had multiple people ask me where to go because unless you know you'd spend all day trying to find it.

Tl;Dr

Evo this year tried to do too much and all aspects suffered. NRS scene should embrace ESL and the other majors that treat us fairly.

We're also one of the newest communities, and we grow every year, so you've got a moot point.
707 people spent minimum $60 for entry, and we shouldnt be considered?

So if infiltration wins EVO, should we be show the SFV scene less love because he's only lost 1 major he's entered?

I think we could learn from the smash community tbh, they support themselves so well for a community that others shun.
