My best bet is that this game will be a crossover.The scorpion/subzero fight cinematic is just there to mislead everyone. There was MK vs.DC, ''who's next?'' Could be totally wrong but just throwing that out there.
After seeing the trailer and new characters it's obvious this tournament is not based around earth realm anymore and the who's next is the new realm they with be trying to conquer.
