Sorry to be the idiot here but... what is a stagger?

I've never heard this term before when discussing fighting games.
I know what a stagger is in Dark Souls...

I think cancels should not be considered staggers. They are another kind of pressure.

lol anyone but sub-zero . um, off the top of the head, kotal, jax, reptile, kitana's kinda decent, lao's definitely not bad at all! , there's maybe a few others but those really stand out.. damn what'd I do if sub a stagger game ugh.. *make 24 +1/0 on block* I think predator has some as well now I think of it.. why his 21 0 on block when it's basically the same damn thing as subs 24? I never got that... Thinking leatherface's 22 being +2, might be able to use 2, 2, 22.. pretty lady has some dirt and interests me so he's my new project after real life crap is out of the way.
