For me, I'd say Mortal Kombat (2011) simply for reviving the franchise after the sad, sad 3D era. The nostalgia with it, and the way it captured the spirit of the franchise were fantastic.

I'd say Mortal Kombat XL next because it's an excellent, modern fighter for the franchise with excellent, underrated balance. I didn't approve of all the design decisions with it (offensive/50-50 dominance, return of Running), but it's still a fantastic game.

Mortal Kombat II is the single best classic game in my opinion. The best roster, environments, story, and tone. Oh my.

Mortal Kombat (1992) started it all, and was a complete blast for its day.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was a nice upgrade to Mortal Kombat 3 and brought back a lot of fan favourite characters. Always hated the Run mechanic though.

All the 3D games, except for Mortal Kombat: Deception, are no. Mortal Kombat: Deception is simply okay, in my opinion.

MK2 and UMK3/Trilogy are the ones that really made the franchise stick. MK9 and MKX are both great games with individual strengths and flaws. Deception is messy but probably the most fun I ever had with MK as a teenager, with all the single player content. Those were five easy picks.

Hoping MK11 blows everything before it out of the water!

Deception might be my favorite. The actual fighting gameplay sucks Goro's fourth nut, but: Chess and Puzzle Kombat are endless fun; the atmosphere is unforgettable, especially in the amazing Krypt and main menu; the Konquest mode is pure lore porn in giving you an opportunity to explore the realms (I still want them to try this again); OST is baller and hasn't been surpassed since; and, finally, the roster isn't just a MK1/MK2 reunion repeat like all the others and is actually interesting, though the new characters are mostly jank.

Of course I love MK2, UMK3, MK9 and MKX like everyone else, but I need to give Deception a shoutout.

UMK3 during its online peak on 360 was the most fun I ever had playing any game. I used to play my dude OuijaWarrior all the time. I’ve been looking at his YouTube channel lately to see if he’s uploaded any footage. Can’t find any.

MK9 is still the high point for me, personally. Roster, aesthetic, gameplay all hit their stride and it came out at just the right time to be forever memorable.

That said, UMK3 is still excellent and Deception, as bad as it is, was one of the first games I ever played online and one of the first fighting games I actually put time in to learn so I have a huuuuge soft spot for it.

MKX is good, but my love for it has kinda waned over the past 4 years in all honesty. I still like it, but it's lost its sheen in a way that MK9 still hasn't, imo.

Pick up & kill it & kill it & kill it!
Have to go with these:
MK2
MKT/UMK3
MK9
MK4/MKG
MKD
MKDA (for the 1st out spot)

However, if I’m being honest, even though I love DA, MKA, & Deception, the shift in the way that characters fought didn’t feel “right” to me. Armageddon’s roster was sick but the stage interactions & the fatality system plus some bugs messed with the game. I have a lot of love for MK1 too.

Hello fellow MK4 fan. I think we are the only two who admited to have voted for this game. Six people voted for it too and didn't say it!

I don't think MK4 is the black sheep of the franchise. It was amazing, very fun and introduced really good characters. I also liked how they kept 2D mechanics logic in a 3D enviroment, even though I can see why some people disliked it.

9 is the best easy. Incredible return to form and made the series relevant again.
X is next since it continued on it and even though it had a ton of issues it still was a great game overall compared to the rest of the franchise
UMK3 since it got me into it and it's a fun game even though it's hilariously broken
Deception is the best 3D game and had a very fun story mode
MK2 because it's MK2. Never really played it but I know it's considered the GOAT of the OG games.

Idk why. It wasn’t bad. It did have goofy animations & sounds but I played the fuck out of it on N64 & Dreamcast when it was popping.

It was fun to me. Different strokes different folks I guess.

All hail emperor Liucifer Kang!
MK vs DC has charm, it introduced alot of things that would transfer to newer nrs titles. It had way better meta than mkx imo. It lacked content but that was only due to the fact that the game was rushed..And ofc, the gore factor was missing, which is the only factor people shit on this game. Im actually glad this game was made, because when you think about it, it saved the franchise from total oblivion. Wb bought the rights and we got ourself the best mk in years.

MK2 is my favorite of the series.

I like UMK3 but not as much as MK2.

MK9 is cool as well but MK2 IMO is the greatest Mortal Kombat game EVER!

Agreed on many respects. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was not a fantastic game, but it's hardly the worst of the overall franchise and introduced a _lot_ of the mechanics that re-invigorated the series:

- The style of Story Mode
- Traditional classic roster (for the Mortal Kombat side)
- More modern use of Super Metre
- It's gameplay, though still a 3D fighter, had more of a feel to it's 2D classic counter parts than the previous generation 3D titles

And as you pointed out, which no one ever seems to mention or realize, without this game there's a very real chance Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment would not have picked up the franchise and the team to create NetherRealms Studios, and we wouldn't be having this, and many other discussions.

Question for everyone: I've seen the term GOAT used several times now in this thread, but I have no idea what it means in this context. Can someone enlighten me?
