Where do you take someone on a first date?

^This. Never understood the movie and dinner thing. You're sitting in a dark room next to this girl being quiet while at least 20 other people are also sitting there being dead silent. Terrible atmosphere and it drove me nuts the one time I took a first date to the movies

Dinner and a movie has always been fine for me and still provided enough opportunity to talk before /after the movie. Not having a car does change the dynamic a bit but I'd still offer to meet out somehow versus inviting them over to your place as a first date since that's a little more immersive and might be uncomfortable for a 1st date.

Usually though you can do dinner + a fun activity and you'll be golden (miniature golf, museum, outdoor festival / fair, drinks with mutual friends, concert, etc).

It totally depends on her personality. I see a lot of dinner and dates but said person might hate movies. She might love animals, or be some crazy vegan, or love music, or amusement park, etc. There is no set answer really, just listen to the persons personality and go from there.

If for some reason you do go for dinner and a movie make sure its in that order. Nothing worse than your first date being filled with 2 hours of silence right off the bat. First dates should always be filled with a point where you guys can just talk away. Always plan for a point in the date for that to happen, whether its the dinner part or the "Hey, I know its late but wanna get a coffee?" part. If you don't drink coffee thats even better. When you get their and she notices you don't drink coffee you can say "Well, I don't really drink it but seemed like a good way to hang around you that much longer".

Ah... I kinda miss first dates lol.

Coffee shop or local sandwich joint. This has a lot of benefits. Lunch or coffee can be as long or as short as you want so you have an easy way out if the chemistry isn't there. Determining if you're interested in each other is simple as you're able to casually converse and learn about one another. There are options if things go well as you have the rest of the day where you can plan to do something together, this is where maybe a dinner and movie suggestion might come into play. The initial cost is cheap so you don't end up dropping 100$ on dinner and a movie for a girl you find you're not interested in.

Personally I'm traditional and expect to be the guy footing the bill on the first date, but I look for a girl who at least attempts to reach for her wallet. Nervousness is acceptable, and it means she's interested unless of course you look sketchy as fuck in which case it's a sign of fear, but lets be glass half full here. Being judgemental and assessing your dates looks is not shallow, your physical attraction to your date is an important factor and like looking at resumes in a hiring process it's an easy way to save each others time if that aspect is lacking. Which brings me to the final point, if the chemistry is not there it's not there don't waste each others time trying to find or create it, because as they say there are plenty of fish in the sea.

Guys did I mention that I've been with my girlfriend since march of 2012. I was just wondering how yall go about dating. I'm not asking for advice lol. Keep these opinions coming though. I like to hear different opinions.

A movie on a first date is lame and most women will think its boring. Its a first date, how can you get to know someone while watching a movie and not being able to talk? Dinner is the way to go. Don't do a lunch date, as they will think you are putting them in the friend zone. If they tell you to meet them for lunch instead of dinner, then they are putting YOU in the friend zone. As far as dinner goes, any decent place will do, just don't take her to McDonalds, as she will think you are cheap. Just take her and make sure to pay. If you try to split the bill, she will no longer see it as a date.

You've probably read 3x that amount on this site in troll posts and info that will be irrelevant to you within two years. Carry on.

In short; it does NOT matter where you take a girl for a first date, whether its for lunch, a walk in the park, a coffee shop. Virtually anywhere is perfect as long as the you can talk together comfortably and you make her comfortable. If you don't get a second date, I'm guaranteeing it had very little to do with your choice of location, and had a lot to do with how you acted and carried yourself.

Every first date i've gone on has ended in horrible failure so i couldnt tell were to go.

However i know where not to go and i am happy to share my wisdom. Don't go to a fast food restaurant, school, airplane hangar, to see your drug dealer, to pick up your latest cat, meet your wife, a strip club, to meet your parents, a library, a graveyard, to your apartment in hopes to impress her with magic tricks, a tour of a bread factory, sperm bank, skydiving, laser tag, a strangers wedding, and the middle east. I like movies for a first date because I judge people on how they act in a movie theater. Tells me a lot about a person. Plus by the time I am going on a first date I usually know you pretty well (I fat and ugly so I have to rely solely on personality to pull chicks) and have already spent a little time getting to know. I consider movies a test.

lol. I'm fat too. As men we don't have to worry about being fat bro. Long as you're a nice guy/ have a personality/ Swag is right/ got something going for yourself you'll be fine. Some women like big men. I've only been turned down for being fat once in my life.
