What's new

This game will end the world. It's happening! Holy ****!

GAV

Resolution through knowledge and resolve.
Some idiot is going to walk into traffic or cause a catastrophe and try to blame it all on the game.

Personal responsibility needs to become a thing again. No more scapegoats for the things people do.

My friend was just talking about something like this the other day. And then they announce this, super weird.

This has the potential to be as revolutionary as when the original Pokemon games first came out. However, if executed poorly, it can easily be an epic fail and a huge disappointment.

Slightly off-topic, but why hasn't a console Pokemon MMO been made yet? I know we've had this discussion on this site before, but it still makes no sense to me. I would buy a Wii U right now, like literally would go online and purchase one, if a Pokemon MMO was announced and it was essentially like all the Pokemon games on handheld but with the power of a console and more features. I simply cannot believe in what, 20 years or something, they have yet to have a legit console Pokemon game.

All this said, I'm really enjoying Omega Ruby and Y right now. Recently got a 3DS XL from @Tim Static, and I play it everyday, lol. Downtime at work is a breeze!

I'm optimistic about Pokemon GO, but not going to have high expectations. It's obviously not going to look anywhere near how the trailer portrays it, but I just hope they don't treat this as a side "mobile" project. This has massive potential, but we shall see.

They are saving the MMO until they need the money lol, just like Square and the FF7 remake

That doesn't make any sense. Successful franchises have shown that you can sell a game based on the name alone (Call of Duty, Halo, Gears of War, Final Fantasy, etc). People pre-order these games more than any "new" title because they're already fans of the franchise. Hell, Pokemon itself is in this bracket with their handheld legacy. The original console MMO would be great, but the sequels would bring in just as much if not more money.

This is a no brainer so there must be some philosophical reason(s) why they won't do it. Or maybe it would make the handheld games obsolete or "unnecessary" or something, idk.

It's Philosophical, Nintendo isn't really into stuff like MMOs when it comes to their core franchises. Nintendo is very protective of IPs and how people engage with them.

Well they took a chance with Hyrule Warriors and that was pretty successful.

It doesn't have to even be an MMO though. Just the same exact multiplayer that is in the handheld games.

Hyrule Warriors is a much MUCH smaller leap than a Pokemon MMO or a consolized Pokemon game, but stuff like it existing does show they'll slowly budge.

Now if only Nintendo would realize Youtube aint the enemy.
