The Official Virginia Thread (NoVA + SoVA)

are you THE Black Rob from VA who used to play Bruce in T5?

<----sciolist from TZ posting

Stay free, Rob :D

Whenever PSN comes back we need to get some King of the Hill battles going.
YES, THE BLACK ROB, I also know an Ariez... What's up man? You in MA now? PSN is pretty much the only way I play fighters now, but 2011 is the year for fighters. I still sometimes travel to Richmond to play.

Neo- We both know from experience old habits die hard... hence we're both still here...

It feels very different from most of the other fighters we've gotten in recent years, which I really enjoy. But at the same time, this means it's taking me some time to get used to the timing of combos, the general hit and block stun recovery times, and so on. At the moment, I seem to always get punished even after blocking a combo. I've tried Quan Chi a bit and gotten down a solid 30-35% combo, but I don't feel I actually know how to play him in an actual match yet. Most of my playtime has been story mode and challenge tower, so god knows how many bad habits I've developed as well.

Combos in the game don't seem that hard overall; the community has already found really strong combos that aren't that difficult to execute, so I'm not sure how much further that can go without breaking the game. I'm hoping to see more match videos in the future to see how all of the other aspects of the game develop. Tag team seems like a real blast though, and a very different beast from 1v1. I hope it doesn't get completely ignored.

Those of you interested that live in Hampton Roads. I'd be interested in getting MK9 stuff going on the Penninsula. I have made a shot at this over at SRK, but it seems that there isn't a lot of interest generated over it. At least specifically with SoVA. I am a little weird about giving out addresses and phone numbers publicly, but please by all means PM me and I'll give it to individuals that may be interested.

Hell, if you guys hit me up early enough I'd be down today to get in some casuals. I know it's kind of improvised, but I am not too keen on MK9 Online so I wouldn't mind being able to play in real time with people who actually enjoy the game. I mean, it's entirely possible to get a pretty common small gathering just for practice quite regularly.

I'm in Hampton, if anyone cares. I've got PLENTY of room, but I've not done a lot of game-related hosting so I'm not entirely sure of optimal setup. If anyone would drop me a line maybe you could preview the space, and get some games in and we could make it a good place to get in some MK here on the Penninsula.

A majority of us know Ariez. Black has changed locations since then, so his new apartment can't really support the same number of people as it did before. At least not comfortably anyway lol.

And wtf...

Oh ok....yeah its been a while since i last talked to Ariez but who knew it was such a small world. I had no clue most of you guys on the forum would know him. Anyway i saw the psn blog yesterday and it clearly is some bullshit maaannn (chris tucker voice). so are alot of you guys gaming at one of the locations that was in the earlier

Well, I may be SOL on people being on the Penninsula who are down for MK9. Seems everyone I've talked to is only interested in the Capcom titles. If by chance there's anyone out here in the Hampton/NN area who'd like to get a good MK9 Skunkworks group going to play this game into the ground. Let me know!

If it's only a handful of people interested I can pretty much accomodate any time you guys are down to play. We'd have a solid place for MK9 lab to learn shit.

Sounds like a start, hopefully more will get involved. Like I said, if I just got someone to learn matchups and stuff with it's getting somewhere. I really am a pretty laid back guy but XBL MK gets me a little irritated.

I've a nice friends list of real decent guys but we can't even do proper testing as much as we try.

I'd join up with you guys but it's about 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive, and with gas already being almost 4.50$ I can't really afford to travel that far that often. If you want tho feel free to add me to XBox Live I'd love to lab it up with someone, I've played with a few TYM guys and haven't really had a laggy match save for one dude overseas.

I'm down in Norfolk for college, which isn't terrible far from Hampton. If I can get a ride with my friend, I'll try to come over sometime if I can.

Guess I'll need to give it sometime. I know Hampton Roads isn't the most easily commutable metro area in the country, to put it nicely. Which is why I asked for Penninsula guys. LOL, I am by no means saying do not come out. I just figured it'd be more likely that people who were close would be more willing. Sorry, I haven't been specific on the times. It's because I've a good amount of free time lately, so I'd imagine I'm more flexible on play time than others.

Also, guys don't rule at Blackula's either. Especially if you like a variety of titles. I went there a few times when I was still living in Ghent and it was good times. I just hate dealing with tunnels. I'd totally be down to go elsewhere for tournament stuff or whatever, but for potential daily/weekly whatever I'd just try to get a small group that wants to try to learn some shit.

Blackula

I SEE EVERYTHING!
Don't forget tomorrow, games at my place. It will probably be around 9 PM. I have an exam to take at 6:30 so when I get back, if it's before then, I'll open up shop then.

I love this game. I'm finally getting used to my none-scorpion characters. Wailon picked up Noob, Ermac and Nightwolf and his Ermac and Noob have RETARTED juggles now. The man is dangerous in this game already, doesn't matter though cuz this is MK...It ain't tekken or SC...no no no no. I'm gonna make damn sure I put hurtins on peops hehe. Tag battle is fun as hell too man. 2 on 2, needa have tournaments for that, better find a teamate heh.
Anyway yea, PSN been down and I needa fight real ppl more (when I have freakin time) and needa also make sure my tekken skills stay sharp.

I'd like to actually try to get a handle on this game, seems that all the interest is on Capcom. Alot of that went on last night in Yorktown. You can check out SRK for the info. Seems like MK has kind of been written off as of now. Makes me a little sad. I like this game a lot, and XBL is know way to judge skill level. Pretty sure I'm a free win for most you fighting game vets. Was hoping I could pick up some stuff, but so far it's been kinda meh.

That's how this area is. Everything is a flavor of the month, but no matter how much they bitch about Capcom games, they always go back to them.
