Test Your Backdash!
That's right... Test Your Backdash is back for INJ 2 :D. The purpose is simply to objectively measure the backdash distance of all characters. This is a living thread - meaning I plan to update with future videos for all future DLC characters. Original MKX thread. Details in sections below. Video available in 720p. Backdash As A Mechanic

Backdash is input with Back,Back and behaves like a Special ability in that it can be used as a Reversal. It starts up in 1 frame, meaning it can be used as a Reversal in any string gap, and will provide invincibility frames for part of it's duration, ending with Recovery (vulnerable) frames. Invincibility frames and Recovery frames are variables which are beyond the scope of this thread for the time being. I can say that in general the Invincibility frames seem to last considerably less time compared to MKX.

Longer backdashes are usually perceived as better since they create more space between you and your opponent, but it's somewhat situational e.g. in niche situations, it might be advantageous to have a shorter backdash if it allows you to follow up with a stronger punish.

The Experiment & Methodology

I used a yellow ruler I made in Paint to measure each backdash from start to finish. Each character stood about where the shadow line is on the ground. A jump was made before each recording to ensure the opponent Superman didn't make any collision which would move the test character. The measurement was made from the location of the tip of the toe, not the shadow (some characters started slightly in front of or behind the shadow).

Each line on the ruler = 1 unit, which was separated by 10 pixels, thus each pixel = 0.1 unit. Each big line on the ruler = 15 units. The ruler is perfectly uniform, but measurements were done by hand, so a margin of error exists, although I tried to be as accurate as I could. The camera perspective shifts to the left a bit more when characters Backdash further than others, causing a little distortion. Probably everything is within ~1-2 units of being correct, all things considered.

No character touched the back of the screen and the characters remain close enough that the camera doesn't zoom out. Competitive Mode was enabled just in case gear in any way affects the Backdash. Characters neutral jump, and the first Back input is made while the character is in the air. The second Back input is then made after the character lands, ensuring there's no walking backward. Characters who float while standing were measured before and after during Crouch to stabilize the feet. Firestorm was kind of a pain since his feet are so floaty even crouching, so his measurements were made when the foot reached it's forward-most position.

You have no idea how much I love backdashes in every game that has them invincible for some frames. They were criminally underused in igau1, mkx and hopefully not in this game.

Now to measure how long do they take from start up to end and how many recovery frames do each have?
There were a few players who started that project for MKX. Not sure if they ever finished it. I don't have any plans to measure the backdash frame data myself. Distance is a more simple experiment. I just vaguely tested like a few of them. WoWo's feels like it has good invincibility frames, Batman's doesn't. That's all I got.

This ranking system is odd.. with backdashes invul frames > distance, I think thats what we should be looking at in terms of best-worst backdashes.

OP's just measuring the distance and ranking them, which he can do objectively with fair accuracy. When we're talking about everything in the backdash it gets subjective, and OP even mentions a shorter backdash may be better in certain situations.

Cheetah is the most coward person in the entire INJ2. Whoever mains her is a coward. lol

Exactly what Marinjuana said. It's not meant as a best-to-worst ranking, it's just measuring the distance. The best backdash will change depending on the situation. In one situation you might just need one with quicker recovery, in another you might need more invulnerability frames, or more distance.

Fair enough, I understand this just measures distance and isnt ranking how good they are. But I disagree about the best backdash varying, the backdash with the most invul frames throughout the animation is the best one. End of story.

Flash's backdash is short but very fast, if it was invul the entire animation it would be considered the best. Scarecrow's backdash is slow and covers a lot of distance, but if it had full invul it would be the best. This is the case because if your backdash has a lot of invul frames you can just time it correctly to beat different things, regardless of how far it travels. How good the punish you get would vary on distance traveled, but backdash in itself is meant to avoid damage. Which would be measured by how long the invul frames last
