Tekken 8 Post-Release Discussion Thread

@LEGEND @M2Dave mannn I had some serious self-reflection today that applies to all games not just Tekken.

My bud was showing me his Wavu stats after seeing some Reddit post and we were talking about a couple of MUs (funny enough he also is Tekken God and plays Xiaoyu like me so we are legit same rank same character). I told him Steve I hate fighting that I "always lose against" whenever they appear, and he was like what are you talking about you always win against them. So after arguing I pulled up my Wavu and saw some wild stuff that I would have never thought was the case based on my bias after matches. Some MUs I never would have thought I won as much like against Steve, and I would have bet my balls I was beating Leroy garbage low tier self. Though I haven't played these last few weeks because of KOF/SF and some MK lab, in protest of Clive (lol) it is these:

List is in order from highest rate to lowest (i.e. I have a 75.0% W rate against Reina and a 35.7% W rate against Claudio). Also saw I have 50-70% W rate on every stage in the game. This tells me a few of things. 1) seeing these W rates I need to stop always switching games and stick to one game for a while to push myself LOL 2) I remember things I don't like rather than what is actually happening 3) A majority of the characters I see more often I have the highest win rates, I am getting PWND by the MU in the majority of one's I see less of (4 out of 5 of the under 50% W rate is also bottom twelve fought characters).

Definitely seems like the matches I played when the game first came out weren't recorded

Nice ha I'm gonna call you the Clive destroyer. Oh busted character with absurd tools? No matter for The Legend! Yea there's a cut off but I forgot what it was, like last 6 months or something like that, I can't remember the exact running time but 6 months sounds right. Or close to it. Something in say like last March would have fallen out.

How is this data collected?

Some dude last year created some tech type script that records everyone's matches from God to Beginner ranks from the leaderboard and makes a mass file that has anyone's matches, the day and time, the set count, etc. It's pretty cool. People can even download the file if they want for their own matches. Also each month there's a "usage" article that gets posted that shows how many of each character was used by %, their win/loss, how each character did in high ranks vs mid ranks vs low, etc, so like my character wins a lot in beginner ranks when people use her, but at higher ranks doesn't win as much, things like that.

Clive was so prevalent I was forced to learn the matchup. Luckily no good player uses Clive, at these ranks anyway.

I've maybe only seen one Clive post-nerf and they didn't even bother throwing out F1+2. Needless to say they got folded.

Something funny about the Tekken community is that they’re elitist (not necessarily in a bad way) about the game. Many only play tekken. And don’t want much to do with any other fighting games. Especially other 3d fighters like Virtua Fighter or DOA.

Yet when you play tekken with them, everyone craps on the game. Honestly Tekken players bond over criticizing the game more than they bond over talking about how good the game is

Even me and my training partner talk about how ass Tekken 8 is, yet we play consistently and compete when we can.
