Note: This Combo thread will START off only focusing on her 2 TOURNAMENT variations. Those Names are No Holds Barred & Ring Master. If you are unsure what moves to equip for tournament Sonya, I will list them briefly below. For anyone confused about dash cancelling, you are able to cancel your dash into any attack. This allows Sonya to dash cancel midscreen for easier conversions!

Note: Ring Master gives Sonya access to the ability to dash cancel her Energy Ring & allows her to have a completely unreactable 50/50 in the corner. This is essential to learning this character at the highest level and will take practice to learn. Here is a video in depth on the subject and how to do it properly.

General Gameplan
As Sonya, you are given access to very powerful mixups using her B123 and B14 strings respectively. While strong, B1 starts off as a high, so you must be careful when playing someone who knows this. Highs can be ducked and punished with usually low pokes and occasionally D2(which gives them a KB). I believe the Sonya player MUST enforce neutral with her Energy Ring first. That's right. Her projectile. Its super fast, trades well, and has a KB attached to it for very good damage. It can keep your opponent honest in space and gives Sonya that ability to contest in ranges she could not usually do. Furthermore, if you come across someone who knows the MU and they are constantly mashing you out of your 50/50, PLEASE USE F3. It's 18f yes i now, but it gives her a +31 knockdown AND it low crushes a lot of D4's, D3's, and mashing D2 users. If you find yourself being mashed on after you hit D3, make sure to practice your Jailing timing because all of her low pokes guarantee a B1 on HIT. You can also use F4 against mashers as well up close as it is 10f and leaves the opponent standing should you choose not to extend the string.

Her combo damage is fantastic, and it’s good meterless too so you can be pretty liberal with your meter useage. I was just messing around in training before class and in the corner b123 33 134 EX db2 333 EX bf2 is around 441 damage iirc and keeps them in the corner, but I can double check when I get out of class.

B123 f4 134 bf2 is 336 damage and leaves them close to you midscreen, but side switches. If you end in EX bf2 it does 357 damage and throws them far away from you same side. On Kronika’s hourglass it leaves you standing right on top of them in the corner from starting position.

134 xx bf2 is her fastest punish at 7f, does 228 and side swaps, keeps you close to them though.
134 xx bf4 does does 195 and keeps you same side and close.
134 xx EX bf2 does 252, keeps you same side, but throws them away from you.

134 xx EX db2 xx 134 EX bf2 does 352 for 2 bars in the corner as a 7f punish.
B14 xx bf4 combos midscreen for 168. The 4 in b14 is also hit confirmable, but it’s really tight.

I am now an ex Kitana player and have switched to Sonya bc of kombos.

I am loving corner shenanigans with b123 33 333 db1 Amp 33 Asswhoopin

I haven’t found much use for her KB energy air rings, but you can combo into it with b123 marching air orders (JI D4) bf1 AMP

Corner : b123 33 333 db2MB 333 bf4 = 400.51
You can use ass whooping but it needs a slightly different timing for the 333 (or you can use the same but only 33) but you need to MB it to keep the opponent in the corner.
Nice find, you can also replace the first 333 with 134 and it will get you 415.41 damage instead of 400.51.

b14 is a mix-up with only a 1f difference between the OH and the low, so if you really want to mix you can do that. She also has pretty damn solid staggers, so throwing people is also pretty good for opening people up.

You can mix them up with B1,4, you get decent damage from ending it with the leg takedown and using a bar. Or doing 1,3,4 + leg takedown.

What is a "stagger"?
When you don’t input the whole string on block and your opponent expects the whole thing so continues to block after you cut the string short, allowing you to follow up with more offense. Characters have “solid staggers” if they have relatively low minus frames for their string starters and/or standing attacks.

So I'm going Midscreen with this off the B12---


B123, F4, 333, DB2 EX, F4 1+3 2222. Mash out the twos and it comes out easier during combos. 378 1 bar midscreen damage. If you mess up the 2222 portion (I'm currently at about 7/10 effective, will be 100% with more practice) you leave them standing with 352 damage. Is this top optimal damage midscreen?

B234<hold>D is my favorite fake out, you can Immediately cancel into B123 combos or go for 134 low starter into ender and she also has the option to fake out into low/high parry with is mad good.

Overall I feel Sonya is very well rounded while staying honest.

Corner:
42-44% in corner with bar:
B123, 33, 134~DB4-Amp, 33~BF4(to stay in corner) BF2-Amp to stay in corner with additional 2-4%

Midscreen KB:
40% midscreen off D2 KB 333 ~ DB2-Amp, 33 ~ BF4/2.

I think it's close to optimal for BnBs midscreen without KB. I'm getting 40-44% with D2 KB into 333.

B234 is a bad string, as soon as you see the b2 come out, you can poke her out of any follow up. You can even parry any followup.

Anyone know what the optimal AA S1 or S3 combo is?

So far I'm doing S3, F4 1+3 2222 on reaction for 205 Damage because it is easier, but feel like I may be leaving damage on the table.
