Skarlet: Banned @ Evo? (All DLC officially banned for Evo 2011)

Kenshi provides for a little less time, but I'm ok with allowing him for EVO. It is cutting it rather close though. If Rain or any other DLC character is suddenly confirmed to be released sometime before EVO, they should be banned.

That'd be cool, new characters are hype and learning the matchups isn't that hard.

I am. It would make it more interesting. ...as one poster said.... people are finding new things even with original characters that have been allowed at tournaments. Remember the Cyrax bomb trap? and the Sonya block infinite that no one really used anyways? or the Kabal block infinite...still allowed and was found many weeks after the game came out. They are IN the game, so they should be allowed to be played in the game. Agreed. Allow them both. with the July 6th cut off.... after that anything goes for any character as things can be found for any character at ANY time. This is a good point.

Honestly, at this point I say ask the torny players.

My opinion as a non-torny player: Kenshi is cutting it a bit too close to me and Skarlet hasn't been patched yet. I say ban them for Evo since we don't have enough info. Kenshi could have issues like Skarlet does, we won't know.

no way should kenshi be allowed. im on the fence for skarlet too but for sure no kenshi. 3 weeks before evo is not enough time for kenshi to even think of being allowed.

skarlet has the bug after her blood dash low and her 17% back throw which is also a bug. MK9 has enough bugs with allowing new ones so close to the biggest tourney in the world.

Im gonna have to reverse myself and go with this to. With the things that have already been found with Skarlet that need to be fixed, she shouldnt be playable at EVO. And Kenshi for sure shouldnt.

As the DLC came out Tuesday, we at Evo think that Skarlet shouldnt be allowed for tournament play because one months time frame isn;t long enough.

I guess I am a little confused. I thought as Dr Dogg mentioned in a earlier post, that a decision had already been made. Tom Brady also made the comment on STBL that Skarlett would not be allowed at ECT, and may not be allowed at EVO due to the fact " A character not in an EVO qualifier can not be allowed in EVO" (STBL ep#6 part 1 at 1hr 21min 20sec). The way that Tom worded it I was under the assumption there was a rule in place for this.

If there is not a rule in place, why not? DLC and Patches seem to be common with most games at this point and I don't see that changing in the future. We just had a somewhat nasty ordeal over CEO/Revalation and the patch. I think the rules for Qualifiers should be the same as EVO.

Why not just say that a character and or patch x# of days before will not be allowed. Some of the patches and updates completly change how some characters are played = same as new.

Also has this ever been an issue before ( character or patch ) and what was done then.

I was talking with some friends about this today. If you ban the new characters and allow them next year(including whatever new DLC characters appear after evo) it would be like having a new MK which would be good for the MK community and NRS as a promotion tool and hype for the MK community.

Wow, I'm honestly very surprised at this call. Don't get me wrong though... I am flattered that you guys would allow Kenshi but I am still up in the air with even Skarlet.

Considering this is MK's first trip to Evo... I'm thinking of MK9 as my 16 yr old driving for the first time to a rock concert... VERY weary of anything that could be abused at Evo, making MK9 look bad.

Also, off topic if I may: What are the chances of MK being at Evo next year?

MK for next year, my guess would entirely depend on the turnout, as it's been like that for new games introduced in the past and/or how entertaining or hype it gets within the crowd/popularity/etc.

Definitely entrant numbers first and foremost.

At least the way I understood his post was like 80% of the cast loses bad to Skarlet.

As a non-tournament player, I didn't want to vote, but, for what it's worth, I don't think any DLC's should be allowed. I just think too many people will have put in far too much work with their characters for a buggy Skarlet to show up and demolish all of that. That's not right and it makes MK and everybody who plays it and watches on the stream look stupid.
