The only thing that needs to change as far as teleports are concerned is to not make them track to the opponent. Make it a fixed distance like the old school MK's (UMK3 for instance) so you can actually utilize it for mobility.

These chars have teleports because they're ninjas, so, actually, it's strange why Sub has no teleport, since he's a ninja too.
And they don't have to avoid teleports, they just ave to make sure teleport is unusable, like CSZ's.

As far as MKX goes Scorpion already was given with, hope any other character with similar teleport has it too.

Raiden's tele also was expanded to appear in determinated parts of the screen in account to the opponents position, so i'm good :)

Raiden's teleport variation will be broken, just wait.

There should always be a reason why a character would have the ability.

Scorpion...he's a ghost.

Raiden....he's a god.

Smoke....it's an elusive element.

Noob is about shadows and whatnot. Still works.


A clear cut example was Sub-Zero in MKDC...there was absolutely no reason for him to teleport. None. Same with Frost in Armageddon I believe.

I also never understood why Ermac and Rain could somehow teleport. It's so arbitrary and outside their arc of power.

Cyrax comes apart and rebuilds....it's functionally accurate I guess. Sektor....disappears in a bunch of matrix coding...how? Hooowwww?

If they for instance allowed D'vorah to teleport....it would just blow my mind from how nonsensical an ability it would be. I know they didn't....but they certainly would.

I'm missing a bunch of characters, but I feel like teleports are just always some filler move the developers toss in when they're at a loss. When in doubt...teleport. Its like their motto.

I believe that since the Matrix is a reality of the mind, the mind makes it real, and MK has different Realms, Sektor is able to shift into different realms, like Cryomancers are from Outworld, Tekunin could also originate from Outworld as well. So, Sektor's teleport could be technology from Outworld. However, Outworld doesn't even have guns, which is why Kano brought guns to Outworld. You go through a portal into a different Realm, other than John Vogel, who is to say that different realms have different realities? This is my thinking as to an explanation. Ermac is a kollection of souls of dead warriors, some of which could teleport, so his teleport could be a remant of a past warrior. Subs teleport in MK vs DC was stupid, it was meant to be a safe 50/50 because supposedly used to teleport after slide, when doing an oki, however, if opponent goes into the RAGE when Sub comes out of teleport Sub is dead.

Sub-Zero is not a Ninja. SubZero is Lin Kuei.

It is not based upon a characters feasibility to teleport so much as it is their playstyle, movement speed, and given tools.

If we were going with "shoehorned" then Johnny Cage's entire character would not make any sense (A guy who punches dicks vs a spectre ninja from hell.... c'mon).

As a matter of fact half the moves granted to charaters would be considered "shoehorned"
Case in point, Square Wave Punch. :p

In all seriousness though, I like that MK has a higher than normal proportion of teleporters. Plus, given the block button, they can get away with teleport attacks that simply wouldn't work in back-to-block fighters.

Cyrax: has magical powers and/or a robot body
Ermac: has magical powers
Freddy: has magical powers
Kung Lau: has magical powers
Liu Kang: has magical powers (his parry has a teleport)
Mileena: has magical powers
Noob: has magical powers
Quan Chi: has magical powers
Raiden: has magical powers
Rain: has magical powers
Scorpion: has magical powers
Sektor (all): has magical powers. Robot version just has a fancier effect
Skarlet: has magical powers
Smoke: has magical powers

So everyone who gets frozen by Sub-Zero should get shattered right away, there is no logical explanation for them to stay alive, if we follow that logic.

Not quite what I was getting at. I'm saying that the ability is just handed out to characters for a lack of creativity.

It's been shoehorned so many times.

I understand what you're saying and your logic man, I really do. But MK has always been wacky like that; it's somewhat a staple of the series.

The fact of the matter is NRS will almost surely give characters teleports they don't need. Batgirl and MMH would both still be ridiculously good if you took away their dumbass teleports. All you can do is support your game or say fuck it and play something else unfortunately.

By that logic Shang should be able to teleport so that he doesn't get stuck in the corner against scumbag characters who can abuse his poor wake ups again. Hell, he even does that between rounds to move away from the opponent or get up, it should work like Smoke away/towards)
Shang did have a teleport in Armageddon, but it was attacking rather than evasive

Oh yeah, MKvsDC as well with the lava

As someone who likes the spacing and neutral-game aspect of fighting games, teleports that are basically anti-footsies tools are pretty meh.

Make them super duper punishable, ok. But in Mkx if we have something like Ares' or Zatanna's MB teleport that are safe and fast.... come on now.

DID someone just ask for a more realistic Mortal Kombat? Im down as long as if Sub zero's ice doesnt defy gravity, Kano cant up ball and more importantly Kabal should NOT be able to run fast nor have physics defying saws fall from his inifinite storage device strapped to his shins.

But in seriousness I don't mind teleports as long as they have distinct animations and dont carry a universal on block animation. I want teleports with DIFFERENT means of approach/distance/maneuverability etc. Diversity is always a positive.. until you get Arakune in Blazblue.
