Exhibition/Special Events

PU2011 is part of the EVO 2011 Tournament Season

Starting in early January, EVO is partnering with the top grass-roots tournament organizers to form a regular season of fighting games. Our 2011 season will run from January through July, culminating in the EVO World Finals July 29-31 at the Rio Hotel and Resort, Las Vegas. At each stop of the tournament season, players will earn ranking points that will directly determine their seed in the tournament brackets at the EVO World Finals. With literally thousands of players attending the finals, you're going to want to secure that seed if you want to advance far in the brackets.

More info on EVO2k.com

PU2011 is VGF Sanctioned

The VGF (Video Gaming Federation) is a new rating system founded by Xiang from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a long time member of the community and avid Tekken player. Players at PowerUp 2011 will be invited to join the VGF and be acquire a rating for SSFIV, T6, and/or MvC3 that they can follow on the VGF website. For more details than I want to post here, check out the VGF website and PowerUp Podcast Episode #45 with Xiang himself.

Mystery Tournament for Charity

The PowerUp 2011 Mystery Game Tournament will see half of the players' entry fee go directly to Child's Play ($5 to the pot, $5 to the chairty). Child's Play is a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in their network of over 60 hospitals worldwide, and it is one of my favorite charities. So get ready to play some wacky games and feel extra warm and fuzzy because you've given to a great cause spearheaded by fellow gamers.

The Mystery Game Tournament will still be part of the PowerUp Bonus Structure. I will also be able to provide a receipt to prove the donation has occurred after PU2011 has concluded.

MvC3 Combo Video Competition

Submission Deadline: April 26th

PAYOUT & BONUS

This year we're doing things a bit differently with our payout and bonus structures.

10 - 31 entrants, payout is to Top 3 at 70/20/10

32 - 95 entrants, payout is to Top 5 at 55/20/10/5/5 x2 (accounting for ties)

96 - 159 entrants, payout is to Top 8 at 45/20/10/5/5 x2/5 x2

And for those coming in 1st Place, never fear! The PowerUp Bonus Structure is here!

Big thanks to Tim for making the PU2011 thread here on Test Your Might. I'm the main organizer of PU2011 and I too want MK to have a prominent place in exhibition events and on stream.

Like Tim said, we're looking to put together a UMK3 exhibition. Quite possibly it will be a 3v3 pitting some of Ohio's best UMK3 players against a visiting team from throughout the Midwest and beyond. If enough players are interested we may even get more than two teams battling it out!

For MK9, we won't really know what's hype because the game will only have been out a week. However, despite there not being any official MK9 teams tourney, if the players at PU2011 are interested we could definitely run a MK9 team event (2v2 or 3v3) after the singles tournament has concluded.

And yes, the food at PU2011 will be epic. Can't wait for a pulled chicken sandwhich, myself :)

@ViciousShogun: Excellent! Glad to have you attending.

EDIT: The tentative schedule has been updated. Not here, but on the regular schedule list. MvC2 has moved to Saturday, and ST has moved to Sunday. XvSF has been dropped from the official lineup to make it easier to run head-to-head cabinet tourneys. And most of the tourneys are now starting earlier as well.

EDIT: MvC2 Low-Tier is for $10 is now normal MvC2 for $5.

@ Osirun: Made you Elder God status btw.... I didn't know you were the PowerUp guy. :)

Let's start looking into or discussing hotel rooms for this. I may just be there Sat/Sun, but I don't want to drive back Saturday night to CBus, so I'll need a place to stay.

Hotel room casuals for MK all night wherever we stay. Start making those money matches now.

Osirun

Anyone getting a hotel when they come?
Remember to use the LaQuinta, whose information is in the OP. They'll give you a nice discount by saying you are part of the "PowerUp" group.

Also, in regards to hotel casuals, you will need to bring your own TV. The TVs in the hotel rooms do not accept input from outside devices.

Not a problem at all, and thank you very much!

Glad to see so much MK hype!
