hey guys i dont know if you've seen this but i guess this is in your area

https://www.facebook.com/BRBPGH
It's not open or launched or anything yet. It's trying to scope out interest and see if it is in demand before starting up a kickstarter. I sent the owner a message letting him know it would be awesome to have a venue that hosts MKX tournaments in the same vein as Texas Bar Fights in Dallas TX.

Apparently they are really into the FGC and would be a supporter. They would have some classic games too; if they got an MK cab it would be UMK3.

Um. . . I actually have a venue launching later this year. The building is closing later this week, and it's going to be a Gaming Cafe/Lounge. It will be located in the South Side. It's a roughly 3000 sq ft space.

It's going to have new and classic arcade machines (List below spoiler) as well as consoles and tabletop gaming. It will be all ages, and will not serve alcohol, although we will have light food options. As far as setups, I can guarantee NRS games will get plenty of representation, since CMUken covers the other communities, and I am an NRS player going way back. (You can see a bunch of tutorials I did early on in MK9)

Also to get around Pittsburgh's archaic and insane taxes on arcade machines, and to try to get people to like the social aspect of the arcade again, we will have an entry fee ($12-15) and almost all the machines will be on free play, with the few brand new machines costing 1 token each. So it should hopefully be economical for everyone as well. Almost all the listed machines are on order (Some of the candy cabs I'm still looking for) so this should give you a good idea of our opening lineup.

We should be open early fall.

Yooo this is unbelievably hype and I am so down on that list of games. (POWER INSTINCT MATRIMELEE?!)

Just sayin though, if you're rolling with a DDR machine, you should look into R21/In the Groove 3 setups which allow peeps to create and upload their own custom songs and step charts (epic).

I would definitely be behind this though and a regular, especially if there are NRS games. Not to mention the short distance between Southside and Mt. Washington... haha.

I'll look into it. I know very little about music games, being that my love is mostly for obscure fighters. I haven't ordered the Japanese games, but I have all the American cabs on their way.

Any thoughts on time crisis?

I am extremely excited about this.
BYOB?
When does it open?
What are your thoughts about hosting a bi-weekly or monthly NRS tourney at your venue?

MK and turtles will depend, I looked hard for a UMK3 machine (my personal fave) but the only ones I found in decent condition were MK3 and MK2 so I chose 2 as it's more classic. If I find a UMK3 that's restored or restortable I'll probably grab it. As for turtles the only other turtles arcade machine is Turtles in Time which has a far superior SNES version. (Which we will have on hand, since my SNES collection is becoming the company's.)

Time Crisis, certainly a game I considered along with HOTD, but both are pretty common in local movie theaters (Both are at Cinemark in Robinson as well as Lowe's Waterfront) and I wanted stuff that was a bit rarer. We'll still have a ton of shooters for your perusal including Aliens (Which is a 55" cabinet with full-size M16 guns with solenoid kickback), Area 51/Maximum Force (for FMV cheesiness), and Transformers. (Which is a 2-player sit down deluxe cabinet and plays just like the classic Gunblade NY/LA Machineguns series)

BYOB: For the moment no. It's in Southside so if you need to drink there's a lot of options, but I want it to remain all ages friendly, plus drinking+machines = repairs.

When does it open?

Hopefully early this fall. I can't give an exact date because I'm relying on contractors and lawyers to deal with a lot of building stuff and unfortunately neither are punctual. When the remodel is finished I'll give an exact timeline. Best guess September sometime.

Tournaments?

Yes, please! I want to support all the communities I can, and I'm looking to hopefully have some quality streams out of the place, so I am going to host as many events as possible. I'll probably take a reduced venue fee depending on the size of the event. It's something I'll negotiate once I have my operating expenses and income more tangible.

@Titanman_88: Same goes for SCK.

But in all seriousness @dookieagain Im really hype about this whole thing. I think I can speak on behalf of Steel City Kombat that if your down for hosting and streamin tournies the least we can do is help with promoting your place. Let us know when you have more cemented details about it and we can make something to put on our Facebook page! with your approval of course

The South Side of Pittsburgh is an incredibly good place to have this venue; its a very eclectic part of town and one of my favorite spots. Good luck in your endeavor. I hope to visit while on my next trip there.
