Kumite this year has been a showcase for the unconventional, and the Mortal Kombat 9 tournament this weekend was no exception to that trend. We saw Sektors galore, a resurgent Baraka, alongside a helping of Rain, Freddy, Nightwolf, Kano, and Sub Zero to boot. But in the end, the Top 8 came down to the heavyweight characters, and a number of heavyweight players who have proven themselves several times over throughout the course of MK9's run.
Tonight's Top 8 at times felt like a vintage flashback to previous years of MK; and there were a few surprises in store as Perfect Legend ultimately battled his way to another MK victory. Although Dizzy looked strong in Winners' Finals, PL found his groove in the Grand Final sets, settling into his "zone" and disabling Dizzy's offense with his breakneck nomad dash cancel assault, flash parries and timely air-to-airs.
Congrats to Perfect Legend on adding another tournament victory to his list, in what may have been the last MK 'legends' Top 8 before the advent of Mortal Kombat X.
