tl;dr the entire thing but I got some of it down and the fact is if you're buying a Next Gen purely for MKX then you should go Xbox to avoid the likely aspect of region lock.

Playing Killer Instinct it seems that you can play anyone (as long a the connection is decent enough) from any region. I've seen Cali vs. Australia matches that worked well. If what you say is right, that NRS is the one making these region locking decisions, I truly hope this isn't the case with MKX. Hopefully the new gen changes things a bit.

Region Lock is stupid and limits the player's experience for no good reason. That's why I'm getting the game on both X1 and PS4, so I can at least play people from the US on my X1.

For PS3 Injustice, it turns out you just need the US copy of the game. You can still use your EU account and play against EU/US players, depending on which version of the game you're using. It even saves your Win/Loss record & puts you into a new ranking (i.e- 55th in EU, and 345th in US), but you still need to re-unlock Costumes and your level gets reset to 1.

The dumbest part is that you're actually getting the game cheaper than if you'd bought the EU version online (due to exchange rates + Sony's stupidity). EU IGAU was £20 in the PS Store & US IGAU was $20. I bought the $20 code for £13.

I hope that, if MKX is region-locked, they let you play the US copy on your EU account to stop me from paying for two PS+ subscriptions. I can't imagine it will be, especially since they're so focused on improving the online this time around. It is NRS though, so you can never be too sure.

There are some really good websites out there (such as http://www.instantgamecodes.com/) where you can buy US PSN cards using Pounds/Euro. Just pay for it online and they send it to your registered email address, then use the code on the US store to buy the game. It's how I got a copy of US Injustice.

Factually, this has not been the case since the original Xbox vs the PS2. The PS2 didn't even have a dedicated online infrastructure. The whole "well it's better cus you pay for it" fallacy is about as significant as the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis having "blast processing" or whatever it was. It's all just marketing buzz essentially.


In the grand scheme of things, I agree, but it's still nice to get some sets in with guys across the pond without zig-zagging out of hotel rooms during EVO weekend every year.

Yeah, I hear ya. I definitely think the Xbox 360, PS3 and even Wii play roughly equally online imo. I've also experienced virtually the same amount of lag on all three, though some will claim "insert system here is better than yours by miles" I don't believe this is the case with current gen, but definitely few generations ago I felt a big difference between the PS2 and Xbox original. Speaking of which that actually annoys me on M$, at least with Sony and Nintendo I go online I don't expect perfection for free net play but the way M$$ advertises at times annoys me as someone who's had live for 10 years now, they act as if they have no lag, no issues which is far from true...they were actually recently hacked even similar to Sony few years ago. I do like the non region lock option though and some of the console options like recording now, easier access to apps etc. Though if someone buys a console just for apps they're all good I suppose for that.

Perhaps they'll have a region lock/unlock option for PS4 MK X. I know even Nintendo has none, playing Smash, Dr. Mario and Mario Kart played folks from UK and Japan lol though I admit at times can be laggy...

This is the damn truth. I guess this is why I actually prefer region lock. Being from Indiana, it's just much more pleasant to get connected with people around me. I live in Northwest Indiana, about 6 minutes away from Lake Michigan. In my area there's even connection issues with some people on the West Coast. No way I want to get paired up with someone from Brazil, Australia, or the UK. It would be cool if region lock was an option instead of mandatory though. Maybe that's the future.

Back in days of PS2 and Xbox region locking, I used a PAL and US console to get best of both for MKD and MKA. So now it's a copy of the US and PAL MKX, if the title is region locked on any system, since the PS4 and Xbox hardware is region free. I don't really see it as a problem unless it's PC steam to go by. The whole server for MK9 is dominated by Russians on Steam..

The leaderboard seems broken to me. First of all this isn't a rant thread I am just trying to understand if its just me, if I am not understanding the system, or if there are still items being fixed.

I can go to the leaderboards / rankings of each category and there are people in the top 50-100 that have way lower stats than me - yet I am not up there.

There were people who had 1-3 and 1-1 records in the upper (nearer to 100) part of the top 100 whereas I had a 20-6 match ratio and nowhere to be found. I've won every ranked / faction match as well and there are others who are beating me out. I'm not on the list at all and should be unless their numbers are reporting inaccurate.


The next thing I am trying to put my finger on is where the estimated win ratio comes from. This also seems very inaccurate as I have seen them play out based on people's records in their fighting profile.

Another major issue is that no one's PING ever loads for me. The only PING I can see registered is my own, everyone else's comes up as a gray bar so I cannot try to create a fair match to see if the person will be in my region. This causes me to just pick anyone - they may be halfway across the world. Sometimes this results in the game dropping out mid-match.

Lastly, the Factions system is still completely unavailable to me.

I was trying to see if there was an official statement or forums for MKX that was able to address these issues but no one else seems to be mentioning them.

Game playability is great but with the above-listed issues its rather difficult, and actually impossible, to participate in a competitive landscape.

the Point/trueskill system is the most relevant. the best way to rise it is beating players with good stats.

That aside, are you experiencing the same craziness with low ranked people with awful match records making it in the top leaderboard?

I know a guy who won about 35 matches last night alone and he wasn't in there. Like I said, there were people at the same time with 1-1 records in the upper 90s slots.

MKX seems to be broadcasting the leaderboard system, not the trueskill. I find it odd they would keep relying so heavily on a broken or buggy system ?

What they are trying to say is that beating a scrub 30 times will not net you skill points. The leaderboard goes by WHO you play, not how many wins you have. Same applies to win % ratio. If your skill points suck because you only play trash but are 200-0 you will have shit odds vs someone who is 50-25 but only play good players.

I.e a win vs an opponent with 1700 skill who is actually good will bump you up on the leaderboards vs 500 wins vs a scrub.

As for the ping bars they just take forever to load.

You clearly did NOT read my post. I did read yours however. This post is not touting the differences between trueskill and MKX leaderboards, I am asking if OTHER people are having issues with features being broken on their game.

I've tried sitting there for 40 minutes while I had a snack and got a coffee and the PINGs still did not load for me.. But I appreciate your response @Fractured_Shadow .. This is the first time I've had someone tell me they could even see them.

It sucks being half way through a good match and the game drops out.

Have either of you had the ability to access faction system? The suboptions are greyed out when I try to access it.. it is available in the root menu but I can't get to it.

Somehow I had other people challenge me to faction matches but I was in the general online rooms area.

The injustice system went by sheer wins, regardless of losses. So as long as you played more than anyone, you were good.

The new systems goes by "points", so I guess we'll find out what that means.

Hopefully they fix that ping bar fast, trying to find matches that dont lag really stinks at the moment. And I too also experience all the broken menu's . Can't look at my stats or anything. Monday night everything worked perfect, been awful ever since.
