Pterodactyl
Plus on block.
His X-Ray makes me want to see this, which was IMO his best fatality, come back.
I think Flame Fist or maybe Duelist will actually the best zoning variation. Before I explain why I feel that wayet me start by saying "zoning" does not only refer to a character's projectile game, but their ability to control space/tempo as well.Since the guy on the Kast did such a shit job, there's some confusion, so let's figure some things out:
Dualist: Zoner?, mainly with the black fire bombs, because the Flame Fist's fire clearly looks faster than the white fire, depending on the speed of the charging and bomb times, right now, this one looks like a meh Zoner style. The healing is only useful depending on if you can hold black fire bombs on the field while in light mode, it doesn't heal much, but there could be an enhanced version.
Flame Fist: High pressure game backed by windmill punch and a damage booster for attacks, with a parry to boot, this fire again is faster, it has faster start-up and end frames clearly, so I'm not sure what they're talking about. This variant is gonna be a noobs favorite due to the rapid hits and chip damage, if Dual truly has a faster flame, then this is my least favorite.
Dragon's Fire: Combo-Maker and High Damage, at first, everybody sees this as a basic return to mk9 Liu Kang, but the fireball cancel will allow for extended juggles, resets and mix-ups and when combined with the Bicycle Kick, which now leaves you standing, Dragon's Fire will allow for total destruction if used right, and the new backfist which is safe(but not punishable.....) is a nice added trap.
upon thinking about it, I'm going with Dragon's Fire over Flame Fist, Dualist seems to have been explained wrong, so I need help there.
now.....

Dragon Fire's can be charged so its start up is slower, Flame Fist clearly shoots fastest, so the white fire seems like garbage right now, and again, the time required for the black fire bombs will determine the use of Dualist, which again.....yeah. Any thoughts?
Yeah that fatality rocked. If they incorporated it into the game again that would be cool. His X-Ray makes me want to see this, which was IMO his best fatality, come back.
You forgot the orbs in Dark which I think may actually be his best zoning tool. Shooting the orbs and pausing them in front or behind opponents forces them to either make a move that you're planning for, or hold block for you to do what you want.I think Flame Fist or maybe Duelist will actually the best zoning variation. The buff to projectile chip from flame fist will prove a powerful tool. Essentially Liu Kang can kill you from full screen because he has a low and IA projectile then add to that with his ability to then buff his projectiles even further and he becomes a HUGE threat however you will be forced to move in on him when he has a 5 frame normal, a parry (He now has a GREAT wake-up), obvious block string pressure, and can possibly be in a buffed state. Right now Liu Kang appears to be similar to kabal in that fact that he can do it all and do it all well.
Light Duelist might be the best zoner simply because he can heal. This mechanic will force a character into a rushed advance and will make it easier for Liu to open the opponent up.
The only good looking thing from Dragon's Fire is the bicycle kick's ability to grant 50/50's but you have to land a combo and I am positive that it will be full combo punishible.
Even beyond zoning, I just can't wait to find combos that end with orb placement for continued pressure or a free ticket to back off an zone for a few seconds. This seems like such a versatile variation. You forgot the orbs in Dark which I think may actually be his best zoning tool. With knockdown or bad jumps you can possibly get two on screen at the same time. I think those orbs are the best space control tool we've seen so far. Very similar to MMH's orbs.
I feel the orbs will be great for Oki and continuous pressure but their ability to compete vs another projectile is lacking and I feel they will be situational at best. In MUs with Sub Zero, for example, he would not be able to trade an orb with an iceball because he would not be able to activate the proximity of the orb. Same rational applies to any character with a reactionary teleport or a fast projectileYou forgot the orbs in Dark which I think may actually be his best zoning tool. I didn't realize that the orbs don't make contact, they phase through until exploding. Different from what I thought. Great tool though but for the reasons you stated moreso.I feel the orbs will be great for Oki and continuous pressure but their ability to compete vs another projectile is lacking and I feel they will be situational at best. Ya, it is the same reason that I suspect Storm Lord Raiden is going to have a hard time establishing traps. The orbs will definitely be nice in certain MU's but his IAP fireballs and low fireball are better IMO.I didn't realize that the orbs don't make contact, they phase through until exploding. @karaokelove not that I remember.

There was two I think at one point when Liu was in the corner. I got that from the stream talk though. Around that time I think it was Paulo that said, "you can have two of these out at the same time" or something like that while showing off the orbs. From what I saw, you can only use 1 black fire bomb at once.
He has a 5 frame normal lol him ending nutral will be good enoughFist of furry is like dick graysons spinning staff.. I wonder if its plus 9 on block? Metter build up game in the corner?
I think the entire point of the windmill fist is to be safe on block lol. I really want to see the EX version... Trident rush anyone?I agree on the Flame Fist probably being his best zoning variation, but for completely different reasons from @Fractured_Shadow. Go back and look at the speed of his projectiles on recovery, and you'll see why I say this. Also, windmill fist looks safe lol.
Dude... he has a 5 frame standing normal and IAPs... those are about as good AAs as you can possibly get.i am seeing a few worry points though , lack of anti air and armor
