You, me and Hawkbitch in a Long set. This needs to happen at some point. ;)

Hawkwoman*. She's too classy for that :p.

Hit me up. I've been playing mostly Martian Manhunter lately and haven't been on too much this week so message me on FB or here and we'll run it.

So...how did the tournament go?

Well...I showed up roughly thirty minutes before registration time. No one was there. So I left and returned on time and maybe three people were there. I was then informed that all games would be run on XBox, despite this not being indicated anywhere in the event write-up. I had no converter(though I do own one), and was not prepared for this. The issue was eventually resolved with one XBox set-up and one PS3.

How did I do?

In a word: Awful. Completely and terribly abysmal. I am extremely, extremely disappointed in my performance. Some of you may realize that I am very critical of myself and hold myself to a high standard. I am not satisfied with mediocre performance in anything I do that I care about. So what went wrong? Well...I'm not sure. Part of it was adjustment. I was dropping everything. BnBs that I never, ever drop, I was losing left and right. This was probably an adjustment issue due to online/offline. Unfortunately, I could not adjust quickly enough. Since no one in my town likes Injustice enough to play, I am not sure how to overcome this.

My first match was against Superman. I'm still not 100% confident in this match-up. The first game went by rather quickly, with the Superman player destroying me again in short order. The second game went better. I lost, mostly due to the fact that I dropped a 40% punish that may have ended the game.

The next was against a Killer Frost and it was as if I had unlearned how to play. I jumped recklessly and often. I just threw shit out.

I wasn't trait canceling.
I wasn't staggering strings into MB Batarang.
In short, I wasn't playing even close to how I do when I play any of you. Of course, I'm hardly a high-level B-man player to begin with, but it was as if I had forgotten all of my fundamentals. I just don't know what went wrong or how it all fell apart, but it did.

A lot of it was nerves, I think. The bar was crowded, people were shouting, etc. I used headphones to drown out the noise and it did help. As the night went on, my play improved. Still, I was NOT playing as well as I know I can and I simply do not know how to overcome this. I remember feeling my heart pounding in my chest, feeling my hands shaking, and knowing that my friends were watching me. It was very unsettling.

It was nice to see my friends and discuss the game with them. As of now though...I am in full character crisis mode. My performance was so fraudulent that I have no real confidence in my Batman. And I'm a little sick of playing him, despite him being my favorite DC character/superhero, ever.

So....I'm at an impass. Red September is three weeks away. I really want to attend and do well. How do I overcome these shortcomings? Do I stick with Batman?

I just don't know. What I do know is that I DO NOT regret the experience. I would do it over a thousand times. I would simply play better.

So...that's how NRF_Rude did. I used the NRF tag and everything. In hindsight, I probably made us look pretty bad.

So...sorry about that.

Rude, buddy, this stuff happens. Everyone has a bad night. Only advice I can give, is go into practice mode before a tournament and make sure you can do Bats bnbs offline. It's a learning experience. You'll win next time.

Did you play on the xbox or the PS3? Don't worry about it. It was your first tournament and you got the jitters.
I've fought plenty of solid players who did well in casuals, but fell apart in tourney even though no one was watching them play.
You'll get over this with time. It's akin to public speaking. I had one guy threaten to punch me if
"I dive kicked him more than once" You know what happened? DIVEKICKDIVEKICKDIVEKICKDIVEKICKDIVEKICK
Just keep a confident and positive mental attitude. Just thinking to yourself "I'm better than this guy" will help you immensely.
And don't have a "Character crisis" I play like half the cast and I can't afford to have a character crisis before a tourney. Just stick
with Batman. (Unless you want to Black, but once you go Black you never go back :joker:)

I like Black Adam. He's on my character wish-list.

I'll just have to hit the lab and fine-tune my frame-traps, execution, and so on.

Oh, and fun side-story. I played this guy who mained General Zod. Guys....this character will be a problem in the future. He could get trait out multiple times during a match. His back-dash is probably second to Black Adam's. Zod Charge is an amazing whiff-punisher that can set up trait.

He is very good and very difficult to fight, especially when he starts doing low/trait grab shennanigans. I'm calling it now. Zod IS top 5.

i am exactly the same when it comes to being REALLY hard on ourselves and expecting better. i did the same thing my last local, i didnt really want to plat with superman anymore. but in all reality its not supes' fault, its mine for under preforming. so stick with BATMAN bro, your batman is really good. its more the tourneys scene imo. thats what we have to get used to, and i realize this now and i am more dedicated to supes than ever. oh and you got blown up by a supes, if it makes you feel any better i got blown up by a batman BADLY!

Haha thanks everyone. Next stop Canada cup. Going pure bane. If I make it out of pools I'll be satisfied as hell.
Fucking do it. You got this man. Your bane is, and I kiss no ass here...the best one there is. Until someone shows me different, you are the Bane of the World. :)

Haha I can pretty much say that Mustard is Bane of the world. Grr and Max are scary as hell to. But for sure I feel strong with Bane, and ideally get an NRF placing.

Alrighty guys. Remember the tournament idea that has been brought up? Its time! So before I make a thread for it, I want to get your thoughts on a couple of things:

Format - Double Elim or Round Robin.? On one hand double elim is better to prep for tournament settings offline, BUT round robin is better to learn match ups and get everyone more acquainted with one another. I am leaning towards round robin, what do you guys think?

Frequency - I am thinking every two weeks we can have a new bracket. I think this way, we will have matches always going on and plenty of interaction between team mates and such. Thoughts?

Stream - I dont know the logistics of how to make this happen, but I would like to start streaming high level NRF play and uploading them, either in tournament or just sets. Need an expert to chime in here.
------

Additionally, I really want to see hella activity in this thread. :) I luv you guys, and I would hate to see our thread just be business talk. (I'm guilty as well)With our current roster more or less set in stone for the time being, excepting special cases, we don't have the craziness of prospecting to get in the way of a little friendly conversation. Get to know your team, fellas. I feel like I still have not talked to a bunch of ya. That makes me a sad panda as I like knowing you guys as people, not just players.

Also, if you have any ideas on cool things we can do as a team to get our names out there as players; pod casts, tech vids, weekly match up focus, being friends on facebook, face book group..whatever..throw em out. We are all equals here and I want us all to beast it out more and more every day. Okay enough rambling from me :)

McNasty,

Can you double check the list of players in the OP and make sure it matches the one put a couple posts up? Just making sure we have continuity

Alien Substance
would it be possible to revive the RNF thread? maybe change the title and move it to Komedy Central? we were getting a kick out of it. pretty plz?
I'm not sure about that.
Certain people get offended by casual use of "N****". A report was made about the use of that word in the RNF thread, right after I closed it.

I'd rather not have my staff and I deal with that.

Change it to Nikka. CD Jr does it, and he gets front paged for it.

I'd vote double elim. Every 2 weeks or once a month either way. Stream would be cool, it helps you get used to it for tournies and stuff. I might know a couple ppl that could stream it if need be.
