They finally got Kitana's design right, very cool looking. This does make me wonder how the dead are coming back to life. At first I thought they will be serving Quan Chi but it certainly doesn't look like it. Also, this means Shang's chances went up and perhaps even a playable no boss status (DLC) Shao Kahn?

On another note, did I see SubZero cancel 112 into an EX hammer? Is this a true combo string?

When we played i just started playing MK9 and you already played for like 2 years. And the last time we played i recked all of your's characters Liu Kang included and i have those fights recorded (checked few minutes ago) if your memory is lacking.

And on top of that we can play now if you wish.

i've been waiting for a character since forever to incorporate one of my favorite fighting moves ever. and IP man was one of my top 10 fav movies ever, i can finally say that i will bring my talents to the Shaolin april 2015.

@Perfect Legend you will have Competition for the best Lao now that i probably found the character i really want to use. i won't hide any tech that i find neither, all will be posted on my youtube channel.
perfect legend with zyphox's tech in addition to his own will be a scary thing.

You've got to be trolling. Every character in MK9 looked like Gumby and the models were sloppy as hell. You could actually see ZBrush sculpting artifacts on Sheeva's thighs lol. MKX is a *massive* stylistic improvement across the board. At any rate, the rubbery look in NRS games is partially a design decision for 1) performance and 2) from keeping the violence/gore from looking too realistic.
That's exactly what i dislike, i want it to be realisticly gore looking, because that always been the trademark of the ip. They always had more or less a realistic approach stylisticly, and again im not talking about pure tech here, they probably are using some kind of modified UE 3.5/4 which is ok. Even MK9 with all its hardware limitations, flaws and basic shading tech had that vibe too.

I mean just take a look at Kassie Cage, it's not a problem of tech, it's a matter of art style and graphist skill/talents, you can do way better even on the previous generation of hardware. I find it terrible that's all i can comment from now because gameplay seems on point.

How an art director can give the greenlight on something like this?

They always had more or less a realistic approach stylisticly, and again im not talking about pure tech here, they probably are using some kind of modified UE 3.5/4 which is ok. I mean just take a look at Kassie Cage, it's not a problem of tech, it's a matter of art style and graphist skill/talents, you can do way better even on the previous generation of hardware. I find it terrible that's all i can comment from now because gameplay seems on point.

How an art director can give the greenlight on something like this?

Cassie was one of my concerns, too. But I believe she was still under development like Omen in KI and is about to be upgraded. In the last gameplay trailer she looks better (hair, skin and lightning).

believe me that i really like how Cassie cage looks... i do like that they are using real human proportions.. but ive always look at kitana as a grown up woman, and this time i think she looks like a teeneger.... with Cassie makes sense... but for Kitana?

Yes, Cassie Cage is just symptomatic of the art style, it looks passable on some because among the few others we ve seen, most are only part human. "Uncanny valley" strikes harder on sapiens (that's the whole idea).

Yeah, its a lot easier to model / draw something that doesn't have to get reskinned, deformed, or cut into fucking pieces in real time. The doll faces and random body builds in most fighters never have to wear painskins or worry about half the technology mk ones do.

You're critiquing closeup still frames of in-game intro animations, though, not pre-rendered stills. Ultimately, you'll be seeing the kombatants this close for about 0.5 seconds at the start and end of the match, so it makes no sense to use ultra-detailed models when the characters will each take up about 1/4 screen real estate for the majority of the time (you wouldn't be able to tell the difference from that far away anyway). Lighting is still expensive regardless of how great the hardware is, and the absolute number 1 priority of any fighting game should be consistent frame rate, NOT graphics.

Maybe im not clear enough, one last time.. im not criticizing the tech behind the game, the game could run at 8MP with ten times the polycount, realtime Global Illumination,.. it would still look bad, because the art is bad to begin with that's why you pay an army of artists to produce artwork who never touch a 3d model or a shader. That's not their job. Sometimes the actual 3D modeler and texture artists are not up to the task either to transpose the art in pretty geometry and pixels, but usually it all comes down to the initial artwork to produce great visuals with an "identity".

People keep confusing graphic and art. The reality nowadays is 90% of the so called "impressive graphic" is due to art not tech and can make or break a game (even commercially i believe). Except a few exceptions of studios managing to combine great tech and great art, you can give the best pens (the hardware/tech) to people with no talent they will still make shitty drawings... I don't even ask MK to have above average tech, just decent art on the visual departement, that's my only criticism here.

LBSH, any tournament in Eu that doesnt have Usedforglue, Twins, myself, Phos, OmegaK and the greek dojo, isnt really the 'pro scene'
