If what you're saying is this, then for sure it might be correct to assume that it won't be.
Considering how you change your toolset to better adapt to your opponent's toolset, it's pretty much counterpicking. Since some variation changes do stuff like trading CQC tools for zoning tools, expect that it will make enough difference.
