personally i feel sektor vs liu kang is 4-6, kang has many ways to get in sektor's face and sektor doesn't really have a true "get off me" move
100% agree. Only way I can win is if one gets too anxious and starts going for the hat spins one too many times. Heck the 2 1 low hat is brutal only thing I can do is low 1 or 4 and if Lao reads it I get hat spun into a combo.

The 4 out of the 10 comes from keeping the rocket/flame pressure and d4'ing a teleport but once he is inside I feel as helpless as Shang Tsung.

Liu Kang and Kung Lao are two different characters.

There's no way that Mileena v Kung Lao is 5:5. It's more like 3:7 ... 2:8 even ... it's awful.

Like I don't even know what reasons to give specifically. He just destroys her.

Also, These that I suggested earlier:

REO agrees with. I had Kabal at 4:6. He says 5:5.

Sup M2. I had some stuff to say regarding the sektor vs. nightwolf match up earlier in the thread, but we never got around to sparring. You also never gave your opinion on the match up, either. What do you think of the match up?
 
Hi there. I'm new here, and i registered only to comment in this thread.

I dont consider myself a top player with Mileena, but I main her, so I think I could give a little help around here.

About some of the missing matchups, my opinion: (based on several on-line matches)

Mileena vs Liu Kang: 5:5. They both have nice projectiles. Mileena cant put a lot of pressure because he has his parry move. A pretty even matchup.
Mileena vs Raiden: 4:6, or 3:7. She's unable to do much in this match.
Mileena vs Shang Tsung: 6:4. She cant rely a lot in her teleport kick because of the gound skull, but when she starts putting pressure there isn't much he can do.
Mileena vs Sheeva: 7:3. Sheeva isnt able to do ANYTHING against Mileena. She's way too slow and doesn't have a really good move to escape the pressure.

Remember that I'm not a top player, and these opinions are just based in a lot of online matches.

Kang's parry is VERY slow to activate. It's not even worth using.

Vs Shang, REO highlighted a lot of problems in this matchup. I don't remember any of them.

I can't say much because I don't play any Sektor players. If there's a question mark for a certain character, it's because I honestly know very little or nothing about the match up. If I had to take an educated guess based on what I know, I would say that Nightwolf vs. Sektor is either even or in Nightwolf's favor. I may be wrong which is why I want to play you to get the gist of the match up. I don't play much online, but I'll be one in the next few days.

Im not a top player bu any means, but some stuff on the KL preliminary numbers:

Vs Nightwolf: Lao 112 hits almost all the time if NW tries to crouch 3 and they even win vs NW F+3 if they collide. NW uppercut is beast in this match but you can even bait it (or an axe) by jumping and air tlpt thn instant 3 into hell combo. Sure this is a bait for when you "train" your opp.

I think its 6-4 Lao IMO.

Vs Mileena: 7-3 as REO has explained.

Hopefully this all should change if NRS nerfs that damn spin move wich hits with his back, so KL is the best anti air/crossup character. He even beat Smoke TLPT if he does it against the spin! :(

Shang can give some trouble but again nothing that a good aa Spin cant solve lol. The entire game rolls around KL spin (no pun) and how to deal with it...

Watch this STUPID spin at 02:06 and you ll see what I mean. Sorry for the derail guys.

It's worse. 6.5 : 3.5 favoring Kung Lao. Possibly 7:3. Kung Lao can rush down Nightwolf while Nightwolf has to respect the spin. The spin ruins Nightwolf's game plan. By the time you find an opening, Kung Lao will most likely have a combo breaker anyway. Arrows and lightnings are worthless because of Kung Lao's dive kick. There is no way to zone him. Kung Lao can also x-ray in between f+3,1. Very difficult and annoying fight. I would rather play Cyrax any day and get comboed for 70%+ of my life than play Kung Lao.

If she goes for U4, wouldnt that be slow too?

Anyway, as I said, its based in online matches. And there arent much good Tsungs and Kangs online. The ones I see the most online are Raiden, Smoke, Kung Lao and Kitana.

And it has much to do with the way I play with Mileena. I avoid zoning with sais, the overhead/low pressure is the best about her IMO.

Hey guys, I am not a pro but I have mained Shang since the game came out (and will continue to do so). Here are my thoughts on some matchups:

Raiden (3-7): This is definitely his worst match. Shang cannot punish the teleport with anything except a throw or a d+3. It usually turns into a jumping contest and waiting to punish blocked electric flies. It also helps to have him in the corner because when you pressure, his godly teleport puts him right next to Shang, which almost always results in a full combo. Even so, Raiden is very difficult to beat.

Kung Lao (4-6): This has to be one of my most frustarating matchups in the game. Shang's moves come out slow, so Lao can read the animation (upskull or groundskull) and punish accordingly. If you try to pressure, you are getting spun. The best hope is to anticipate the teleport with an upskull (thankfully, the tracking has not been removed for it). This will make him think twice about just throwing it out. If you can make him come to you without a teleport, you can mix up skulls to trap him and get a safe jump. Mixing in ground skulls will further throw him off.

Liu Kang (7-3): Even with the flying kick buff, Liu still has trouble getting in. He loses trades and is almost always forced to dash block in or fly kick. once he tries that, you can trap him with upskulls and then lock him in place with ground skulls.

Ermac (6-4) : Zoning at its finest. Ermac cannot outzone Shang, although he can mix in a few teleports to keep it interesting. Mac is forced to dash block in, which of course leaves him vulnerable to some of Shang's traps. Add to that Ermac's inferior up close game and you'll see that Shang has the advantage.

Scorpion (5-5)

Sub Zero (7-3)

Sindel (6-4)

Reptile (5-5): Reptile's only threat to Shang is the dash, which is difficult to antcipate and punish.

Kitana (5-5)

Johnny Cage (4-6): The EX kick buff made this matchup much harder. He has to be let in at some points, otherwise you risk eating an EX shadow kick that could very well send you into the corner.

Jade (4-6)

Mileena (4-6): A very annoying match. You are forced to fight close because she can teleport on reaction to the skulls. It's definitely winnable, but you must alter Shang's zoning game and take advantage of the D+4 into close skull.

Nightwolf (4-6)

Cyrax (5-5)

Noob Saibot (6-4)

Smoke (4-6)

Sektor ( 5-5)

Sonya (7-3)

Jax (8-2): Jax's ground pound mind game is nonexistent against Shang. It has slow startup so Jax will eat either a ground skull or a straight skull. Even with the EX punch, he has a very hard time getting in and staying there.

Kano (6-4)

Stryker (5-5)

Baraka (7-3)

Kabal (4-6)

Cyber Sub Zero (3-7): Difficult but not impossible. He likes to do the dive kick at about mid range. If this can be anticipated, Shang can throw a close skull and combo him. The ice parry can be toned down by the d+4 into close ground skull trap. At full screen he can attempt a dive kick, teleport, or freeze. The freeze can be traded with, while the teleport can be anticipated with up skull tracking. The dive kick can alos be anticipated with a mid or close ground skull.

Sheeva (7-3): I haven't faced any good Sheeva's (teleport spammers). Her stomp can be completely shut down with up skulls, which will knock her out of the air (the timing can be funny though).

Quan Chi (6-4)

Please let me know what you guys think. I realize that I probably have not have played every character at a high level, so you will have to execuse some of the ignorance.

Cyrax: I agree completely. People have been questioning Cyrax v Sub being a 5:5 lately as Cyrax catching equals 60% whereas SubZ catching is 30%, but Sub Zero has one thing going for him in this match, EN Ice Blast. This is one time when I think projectile trades do matter enough to actually discuss because SubZ can get hit with a net, break out, dash in, and charge a Re-Freeze in the time frame of EN Ice Blast if he trades projectiles with Cyrax.

Jade: Looks great. I agree with all of these. Baraka may be a 6:4. I never really feel threatnened against him with Jade since Blade Charge is all he Has to get in from midrange and EN Glow >> Full punish makes that a not so stellar option. Blade Rush having Armor is the only thing I can think of that may make it 5:5, but she can still zone him out with Glow, Boomerang all day long. I'm pretty confident in this being a 6:4 though.

Mileena: Really nothing to add here. Looks great. Shang Tsung MAY be a 4:6 ... maybe not. Sometimes it feels worse than another, so 5:5 is probably right. I'm not really sure what Baraka does in this match-up to keep it at 6:4, but I've not had too much experience against Baraka, so anything I would say regarding him would be theory-crafting, and I *really* hate that.

Good job guys! It looks great. Can't wait till we get the whole thing filled in. ^_^ I'll try to start using Sheeva more this week in hopes of filling in the rest of her section.

I have a couple comments to add Dave.

C sub is a 6-4 for nw. Parry is useless so block strings work great and build meter quickly. C sub needs to burn meter to get out of ex lightning traps and that can be baited and punished for awesome damage. Dive kick is punished by shoulder.

Ermac is in nw favor but it's not THAT lopsided. It's a 6-4 also. Ermac can be effective with zoning at max range with force push and can still combo for big damage.

Kung Lao is also 6-4. Spin is a nightmare but on block we get 40%. Poke out of pressure and punish and be patient. You cant make a mistake but it's not a 7-3.


Mileena is a 5-5 I think. She is better than reo gives her credit for I think. I trust his opinion but it's tough fo fight a good mil. No ex lightning traps work consistently either.

Smoke is also 5-5. Reflect don't work, smoke builds meter all day through zoning but nw can't build any meter at all from a distance. Tele punch beats lightning and ex lightning traps also.

How do u build meter with nw primarily? I tend to be forced to rush down characters in order to build meter. But nw is not the best rush down character. just curious. And can you get on ps3 today and we get some mirrors in. I know it's online but I just want to swap strats.

If Sub has to burn meter just to get in and keep up with Cyrax, I don't think the match-up can be 5-5. Not to mention that his b+2 in that situation is an escapable reset. Not only is it incredibly hard for Sub to get through all the bombs and nets, but once he's in he's taking a fraction of what Cryax would be taking. The thing with this match-up is simply that Cyrax so easily throws Sub off his game, but Sub has a hard time doing the same to Cyrax, and then you take into account the dmg...

I actually think it's 7-3 to Cyrax, but I wouldn't argue if people wanted to say it were 6-4. Definitely not 5-5 at present, however.

Sector vs Scorpion is 7-3 for Sector.
Ok form basic.
I fell like Sector :fp:bp ... is better that Scorpion :fp:fp...
Better overall normal, better uppercut. Sector maybe have weak wakeup game, but scorpion is horrible give Sector nice mixup.
Sektor player love Scorpion mixup, even more mixup in to safe jump. OK Sector easy punish for 41/48%, scorpion do ~30% with out hellfire (uses meter on break).
Hellfire is to risky vs. Sector 41% from TP hurt to much. Ufff a love missed Spear, even better :en for +50% combo.
Sektor missile DESTROY Scorpion ... hellfire, spear, even :en Spear don`t work well, and Teleport is much to slow to punish missile.
Sektor even dominate air battle, jk to TP :) are better that scorpion air option.
Ah there is also quite good Sector Flamethrower and shitty Scorpion Takedawn.

I feel a little odd contributing as a Sektor player because Sektroll's way more qualified :D. I have to say, the way the matchup chart is coming out, Sektor is beautifully balanced. Anywho...

vs. Sheeva:

7-3. Although I haven't played too many Sheeva's, I can say she dreams about my upmissiles at night. She can't close distance against Sektor. I can stay at the perimeter, and launch some bad boys in the air as insurance against her jump-stomp. She has very little choice but to engage in a projectile battle (she'll lose) or ground smash me out (too risky). Her ground smash, like her X-ray, can be seen from fuckin space so IATU is the tool. Overall, she's just too slow to not be punished on reaction by most of the shit hiding in the red armor.

I can agree with the Scorpion match up discussed earlier, I haven't had problems with him too much.

I can't speak on the Sonya match up with confidence because I haven't played her enough. Although, she didn't zip up her Kevlar all the way, and I DO have missiles...how is this not 10-0? If there are any west coast Sonya's out there, we can discuss.
