Mortal Kombat 1 Still in the Top 15 Most-Played Playstation Games in March 2025

MK is just way too powerful, it doesn't need EVO, it doesn't need tournies, and it doesn't need the FGC, and they know that. They can bitch and moan all they want, doom MK and white knight SF and Tekken all they want, but the reality is that Mortal Kombat is stronger than all of them. And they are way too prideful and way too egotistical to admit that.

Mortal Kombat is truly PHENOMENAL, and so is Mortal Kombat 1. And it's an incredible time to be a Mortal Kombat fan.

It seems this is the top 15 most played PlayStation games in the US, not worldwide, correct? Also, is it counting both the PS4 and PS5? If so, I wonder how many games in total there would be. And this image doesn’t list how many how active users there are, just the ranking. I also wonder how it is counting each unique user. Is it counting anyone who loads the game? Is there a certain time limit requirement? Does it differentiate between playing by yourself and multiplayer? Just curious about all the criteria and specifics. I’d love to see the actual breakdown of all of this.

I tried to find the source for this, like the actual website where you can find this information (like the Circana site itself), but all I could find was Mat Piscatella’s posts on various social media sites referencing the “Circana US Player Engagement Tracker” where he posts these images. I didn’t search too hard or long, so maybe it’s super easy to find. So if someone can find where you can actually look at this data directly from the source, or a link to it, I’m very interested in it.

There’s a bunch of gaming related datasets and statistics I’ve always wanted access to but there’s surprisingly few (or no) legitimate resources to look into. This may be by design, I’m not sure. For instance another statistic I’ve wanted to know are how certain games are performing sales wise every month, or every quarter. But the only information I ever am able to find is someone else referencing numbers but I can never find how to look up the sources myself. Maybe I just suck at Googling or something.

None of this is super important or anything that I desperately “need”. It’s just something I’ve always thought was interesting and would be cool to have access to for my own personal reasons and curiosity. I enjoy looking at gaming related statistics, even weird obscure ones.

So anyway, if anyone knows of any websites or apps that track any of this stuff, I’d love to know

More content is coming, we got the movie skins coming out later this year, and it's obvious we are getting more characters and Kameos also, judging by the timing of the Pro Komp and other stuff. MK1 is getting more content, guaranteed.

it seems that MK1 might could follow the same route with the final approach they did with MK11 : they will release a full version with MK1 + KR + all the DLC bunch of stuff they released so far, and with 3 DLC characters + 1 Kameo , to finish the MK1 game official life cycle support ...... seems reasonable if they seek that goal, otherwise, would be pathetic just releasing only skins and a couple of patches and finish the support at all

I think they might actually release 3 Kameos and not just 1. Madam Bo being the only Kameo of KP2 made sense she was was reveled only last minute, but if you wanna reveal Kameos in advance, which makes sense that this is what they will do, they will add 3 main roster chars and 3 Kameos to KP3. Also even if it's only skins, this is still more content coming to MK1, since these skins will be used the roster that is already in the game.

As Ed pointed out, there are no other fighting games on the list. The competitive community alone wouldn’t be able to place MK1 so high, so this generally means that the game is still very popular with the general public.

Further proof that I'm not the target audience for modern gaming; I don't play any of those save Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, and even that I play casually.

Why bash gamers for enjoying other games, sir ? We get it, you think Mortal Kombat 1 is one of the best games ever.

Hey I just checked the list again... how is it that there is no Tekken 8 or SF6 in it? I'm pretty sure the Steam numbers of active weekly players for those two are VASTLY superior to MK1's, and I don't think it would be so different from PC to Playstation (which this list is based on). Weird.

That is because that all the MK1 players are mainly on console, while SF and Tekken players are mainly on PC. SF6 and Tekken 8 have become like the "hardcore gamer" type of fighting games, and PC is like the "hardcore gamer" platform, especially with how online competitive mode oriented they are, while PS5 is the more casual oriented platform, and since MK games are made more for casuals and single player guys who don't need to have the best online bur rather just good enough of online to get to Invasions/Towers of Time and the few online matches that they do play, plus with the fact that NRS make the PS5/XBS ports and the PC and Switch ports are done by other studios, while SF6 and T8 are done by Capcom and Bamco themselves for all ports, MK games end up with more players on consoles than on PC, and the opposite for SF and Tekken.

Console is a much bigger market, as it's where the majority of fighting game players are. If you look at the top games on Steam, they generally don't mirror the most-played games in console at all.

PC is just a universe of its own.

For comparison, SF6 isn't even in the top 100 games right now on Steam.
