no doesnt make sense to

they dont want shit load of BYEs

this is fine and AREZ 90% of community who attends tourneys wants invincibility banned
I thought we were supposed to get more players cuz they wanted a 128-man? Aren't they LOSING money by capping early? Why dont they just do another entire 1st round of byes for seeded players or w/e like last time? I thought the business of a business was to make money and do business.

I was hoping for a 128-man cap, but still, I do appreciate the effort I've seen from the community.

Only four days left now...

Everyone just needs to stop complaining

You guys act like they gave a us a 24 hour window to buy tickets when they gave us a 60 day window

if it isnt at 128 blame yourselves
I'm not completely sure I understand. Why was the 128-man bracket offered and what was the deadline for #'s? Why wouldn't they assume to advance at 86 and possibly more on the way?

I fucking hate this mentality. God it pisses me off.

I don't understand the purpose of capping a tournament anyways. If they COULD manage 128, what the fuck is the point of capping it?

see you at the top.
they are capping it because it cost additional money to run tournaments longer. competitors don't even come close to paying for the actual cost of an event. MLG loses a shit ton of money throwing these huge events (venue, staff, amenities, etc.); they make their money from merchandising and sponsorships. In addition, not only are we lucky they even bothered elongating the brackets, but we're lucky they even bothered picking MK up at all. Having players sign up prior to walking up at the door is not an inconvenience, so please to acting like it's one.

Right, they accomplished that...They now know over 80 people at least bought their passes...why shoot themselves in the foot now?
See man, it's just more of "that logic" i was talking about earlier that makes me shun MLG. They're just weird, man

I'm sorry but as far as luck goes in a world of broken fighting games, we can proudly say MK9 is not as broken as some of the others being played for $$$ right now. MK deserves it for their improvements, despite the areas they lack in that we all complain about. MK is America's game, man.

So people know that they keep their word and not just uppity decide to raise the cap anyway.
So they can play this card again the next time and perhaps get better results.

People had a lot of time, you either sign up or you don't...

You are getting off topic. I am not arguing against pre purchasing passes. I am arguing against capping the tournament. It doesn't make sense in any business model. Also, since you seem to have the financial information of MLG, I would love to see your proof of all of these added expenses. I can't imagine it costs them more than 50 dollars per player to raise the cap. Please do not use information you pull out of your ass to validate your arguments.

The word originally was that there was going to be a 128 man cap. That was taken away after MK was announced WAAAAAYYYYY to close to the event almost to the point where some people couldn't make proper travel arrangements. The cap was then held out on a stick like a carrot in front of players who then signed up. The cap got raised once, MLG knows there is a committed player base, why would they now not decide to take door signups? It just seems silly to me.

I don't think many people have a good reason to complain if it gets capped and they can't play, but saying blame youselves for not getting the cap higher isn't right. Lbsh, they took so long announcing MLG would even be at Dallas, then even longer getting all the necessary info out, that a lot of people who wanted to plan and buy plane tickets early and get time off work got shafted. On top of that no one had any reason to expect a lower cap. No one should be waiting to buy their pass, but MLG made it really difficult this time and is probably at least partially responsible for leaving some people out to dry.

At least it looks good for the community to hit the cap. It'll encourage people to get their shit together sooner next time and it increases our chances of being back next year.
