MLG Asks, "Is CD Jr the Best Mortal Kombat Player in the World?"

Tennis has a top 100 ranking system for singles...just sayin'. >_> And those guys have to go all over the world beating the crap out of other players in Grand Slams to get the #1 spot and "glory".

And not the entire world gathers in EVO to determine who is "the best". I've barely seen any South America reps or smaller Euro/Asia reps come to EVO. In fact, the large majority of the participants at EVO are just from the US and Japan lol.
Yeah, well, tennis and golf are slightly different in that they have 4 big tournaments every year. In the women's game,Wozniacki has been the world number for 1 for a while now and she hasn't won a slam. In tennis, you canwin any number of master's events and be the number 1, but you'll trade it all to win the French or Wimbledon.

yep. One tournament doesn't tell the whole story. If that was the case everyone would think pl is the best in the world and clearly by peoples reactions here they don't.
This is an absurd thing to say; there have been world champions in all different sports who have "gone off the boil" after winning it but does that stop them being the reigning world champion? Absolutely not.

In a calendar year, is evo the biggest tournament for MK9 or not? It's like Mustard said earlier in the thread, he's won a lot of tournaments, too, but you guys don't consider EU tournaments because the US players don't play in them, so why would EU players consider US tournaments as determining the best player in the world? Evo seems to be the only way of gathering much of the competition together in one setting and letting them go at it to see who comes out on top. That sounds like the closest thing to a world championship the fighting game community has.

I don't believe the best player is just who wins the most tournaments I look too other qualties such as dose he help others how much dose he contribute to the community what's his attitude like..? If Cdjr put effort into helping others with videos and not threatening people (altho this was sometime ago) I would give it too him.

As it stands reo is just too much a a valuable player to this community and game if we lost him it wouldn't be the same people would not improve as fast this in my opinion is what makes a great player having times for others.
Who cares?Being the most skilled player has no thing to do with helping the community and making videos.

Nope. Ask anybody who's competed in any sport at the highest level. You can win all year round and be ranked number 1 in the world but if you don't win the world championships or the Olympic gold medal, you get none of the glory.

If Evo is the biggest event on the calender and the equivalent of a world championships (because it is the only place the world gathers to compete to determine who is the best), then one would have thought whoever wins at Evo gets to wear the crown.
Okay, you don't get the glory of being considered the world champion, but you're still statistically the best. At least here in the US. I really hope you're not actually arguing that PL is the best MK9 player because he holds an irrelevant belt.

It's not hard to understand. Take Wozniacki for example, she is statistically "the best" but everybody knows she isn't the best female tennis player in the world because she doesn't win grandslam tournaments. I think CDjr has earned the right to be considered the top US player and the favourite for evo but he needs to win evo to underline it all, because evo's the big one.

LOL wow haters. CDjr. has won more tournaments (probably twice as much as anyone else) and placed top at ALL. He travels to non-locals and wins. He's beaten the best and even people he has lost to in the past.....of course he's NOT the best player. How could you possibly consider the person who has won more tournaments than anyone else (and probably ever WILL) to be the best, when the best was probably the person who took 29th place instead.

What next? Muhammed Ali was NOT the best Boxer of all time? Please. People need to stop hating; the results are obvious. If you think he's not the best, go take the fucking throne from him or stfu. Tournament results > opinions, fan-favorites, dick-riders, haters, bench-warmers, etc.

EndofGameBoss

That's about right.
CDjr has the most tournament wins, which by default makes him the best player in the United States. People that are coming in this thread saying, "you're not the best because there is more than winning," is simply wrong. That's exactly what it's about. The question wasn't, "who's the best community member?" It all comes down to wins and performance. Right now he is the top dog. Wanna bitch about it? Sick of it? Then do something about it.

I WILL EAT THIS GAME
This question will be impossible to truly answer until EVO.

There's one thing Manny does probably better than anyone else in the game to date, something more important than even one's ability to play the game and know the fights inside, out, and upside-down...he can make his knowledge of the game work under any amount of pressure or strain, and 99% of the time doesn't let the pressure affect his game. He doesn't always win, but I don't think there's been a tournament yet he hasn't done exceedingly well in regardless, and it's because he can hold his own without cracking like no other.
You can memorize every statistic, variable, matchup and frame there is, but if you can't keep yourself composed under the spotlight, you're gonna die. Conversely, you can be the toughest-skinned, Samuel-L-Jackson-status baddest motherfucker on the planet when it comes to facing down an opponent in a crucial situation, but if you aren't as familiar with your setting as you can possibly be, you're - you guessed it - going to die. It just so happens he's one of, if not THE best, at doing both.

The constant evolution of this game and its players makes me convinced it would still be better served if that MK Champion Title idea that was hatched months ago was put back in rotation at EVO, and the argument of the "best" in Kombat could be put to bed by giving it a title as versatile as its competitive field, but methinks there's be too many variables to such a thing :(.
