MK1 Tier List Discussion Thread

Goro is a Pokémon
Rich coming from the shit player that put Nitara top 3 and Homeland outside of top 10. Amongst other gems.

Keep projecting.
I'm not gonna keep taking the bait, I'm just gonna keep telling you you're hot ass garbage and literally mentally deficient and socially ridiculous if you think you make any points at all. You're all over my dick over my take on the meta at that time. That's sweet behavior, but it's common on this site. My dick taste great and I'm an easy target for people who want the 2-3 Virtue Signallers to like their deranged posts.

Play me in the game, take your L, leave with your tail tucked AGAIN

Maybe for you and some others it could make a difference if I did that. A substantial portion of TYM however proved that needs a 1v1 match for any of my arguments to hold any value. According to those clowns, unless I beat every single one of them in a match, I'm automatically wrong.

This is very unique to TYM and I have no interest in partaking in it. I just wanted to troll a bit.

:REO
This should go without saying: it’s a tier list discussion thread. If you have no points of discussion to contribute, and you just want to troll and tell people their takes suck and not discuss why, there’s no reason to be commenting.

Could you elobarate on what makes Kung Lao S-tier? Kung lao should be max low A-tier imo
General speaking, Kung Lao has a solid combination of offense (i.e., plus on block poke and sweep along with an un-reactable overhead from neutral, which is rare in this game), defense (i.e., long range armor, which is safe with two bars, and controllable armor, which has good utility ), projectiles (i.e., instant aerial buzzsaw and hat toss), damage (particularly after b+2,4 and 2,1,2), up close block punishment (i.e., b+1 against -7 attacks), and mobility (i.e., whiffed dive kick).

You are correct that Kung Lao may not be S tier because he is evidently not as good as characters like Havik, Homelander, and Sindel. Aside from projectiles and armor, he has limited range in footsies, which is problematic against characters like Homelander and Sindel, who have exceptional long range buttons. Furthermore, match ups in which Kung Lao gets out-zoned, such as versus Cyrax or Sub Zero, albeit not super top tier characters, are also problematic. However, if Kung Lao is your main character, there are kameos other than Sektor to use and explore. For example, I like to use Mavado against Sub Zero (the character or kameo) because back kameo can punish ice clone after strings or in the neutral.

Considering the recent two major offline tournaments, discussing what we have learned is significantly more productive than incessantly insulting each other for an entire page. After watching Foxy last weekend, I believe that Sektor is better than I initially thought. I have been using Sektor/Sonya in Kombat League and I have had some success.

Life was wasted on you.
Lengthy tier list video featuring Wound Cowboy...

These "armor conversions" they talk about when y'all are discussing Reiko had better not be his db3 armor. His armor SUCKS and the scaling from it is atrocious, even if he doesn't get hit!

I do not and probably never will understand some of the decisions that were made for Reiko. I could go on all day about his 434, b34, s4 (its only upside is that it is a fantastic AA), etc.

Well, most armor sucks. Unlike in a game like Street Fighter 6 in which certain EX as well as super attacks have invincibility frames, armor can be crushed in Mortal Kombat 1. So, even if you accurately predicted that your opponent was attacking, you could lose a bar and now you are unable to break the subsequent 35%+ combo into a setup. The risk versus reward is horrendous.

However, every armor move has increased damage scaling when used as a combo starter, not just Reiko's EX d,b+3, which, in the context of the game, is above average. The move is slow, but the range and hit advantage is very good. So is the combo with Tremor. Reiko's primary issue is that the developers have botched his redesign as a command grab character.

I enjoy playing and discussing Mortal Kombat 1, but I would probably never compete and exclusively travel for the game. You are abused for attempting to play defensively, far worse than in Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8. The first two tournaments of this season were essentially won by Sindel players performing unblockable setups. The difference between offense and defense is lopsided, which is why I suggested buffs for some of the defensive/zoning characters who find themselves lower on the tier list.

Your circumstances are dire!
How would you guys change the top tiers? :)

What would you modify? For some characters, what I'd do:

Sindel: More recovery on her pokes, and her F1.
Havik: 1k HP, and more scaling on his lower launching special.
Noob: Honestly a little bit more recovery on his zoning. The character is nuts.
Nitara: More HP, less damage?
Homelander: Delete.

I'd like to hear more opinions.

sindel- scream should just restand, needs to spend bar on it for it to be a combo-capture state
havik- treat his low launcher like shao's armor- just give the oki if unamplified, and only launch if amplified (and like shao's, don't launch if armor hit is taken)
not sure about noob
nitara- not sure either, maybe unamplified divekick shouldn't launch a grounded opponent

homelander? maybe make more gaps in his stuff. like not have jumpkick-airdash-jumpkick be gapless.

I would not.

I refuse to play another heavily nerfed and bland-ass like Mortal Kombat 11.

I would focus on buffing the low and mid tier characters, but at this point in the game's lifespan, I would not buff any character like NRS buffed Havik and Nitara... well, maybe Tanya and Stryker.

Some general suggestions...

Baraka - probably just needs buffs for his ideal kameos. Kano is a mid tier kameo who reduces health for absolutely no reason. So does Stryker, and he is the worst kameo in the game.

Peacemaker - less cool down (i.e., by a second or so) on Eagly.

Quan Chi - needs slightly better defensive (i.e., EX teleport should track and allow you to switch sides on hit) as well as offensive (i.e., dash-cancelable b+2) options.

Reiko - botched character. If he is meant to be a command grab character, EX pale rider should cost one bar.

Sektor - if Noob, who has always been a superior character, can get minor buffs, so can she. No buffs to b+2, though. Buff some of the strings, low pokes, zoning, etc.

Tanya - another botched character. I have fought a total of five Tanya players in Kombat League this season. LOL. Obviously needs a lot more benefits for charging "Seeking Guidance" such as safe but non-launching armor.

I legit forget Stryker is even in this game. He desperately needs a new move.
There are better pressure kameos, there are better combo kameos, there are even better restand kameos. He has nothing worthwhile

Give him something like his MK3 fatality where he straps bombs on you. Then you can choose when to detonate it like Ghostball, or maybe its just a timer

Whilst I do agree with you, I don't think that the top tiers should stay the way they are. NRS will not buff mid tier characters at this point (not in the way the top tier characters are), and we've seen that. Some top tiers like Havik have additional strenghts that they don't need, or simply erase the progress of a mid tier character in seconds because of one button.

That shouldn't be the case, and mid / low tiers will not get that treatment.

What I’ve been saying for years now. Not gonna replay the broken record, but yeah, there’s many good reasons imo to buff more than you nerf. It just makes so much more sense
