MK Meet and Greet Shindig in NoVa

I have 2 HP lag free 25 inch TFT monitors, i play competitive quake and that group is even more anal about delay than the fighters are. A CRT (no lag), another CRT (no lag), a large plasma (no lag) and an LCD (lags like hell).

For those asking where I live, I am litterally two blocks from the Rosslyn metro. If you get out, turn right you'll see the Channel 7 building a block away, I'm in the building behind that one. Hence, no car! I work off K street so it's actuall 15 mins out my door to work, no reason to own car, gas, insurance, parking in both places, and rent here is nuts. That said, there are three other MK players in my complex and we do nightlys, and I host for 8 people weeklys downtown at my office on a 150 inch screen that does 720p HD. I'm the IT officer (rank 4th in IT at my job) so nobody can complain about it and the office is huge.

I play sticks cause I'm an old fart at 30, I started this shit early and I prefer it, for those who care I have a super gun and some of the orginal boards.

Theres no date on the thread.

Some people may want to go a little further to compete in an actual tournament. We're also doing a 2v2 tag team 4 player tourney, as well as a huge space for casuals.

You could probably plunk down the whole "shindig" in the tourney room, and have the best of both worlds.

Tried to move the date after learning about your tourney but myself and the 2 others involved with organizing it could only sync up this coming Saturday, if not this would likely get pushed into the end of October at the earliest. We'll likely do it again then, but we'd rather get something going now instead of pushing it off another month. My apologies Renegade.

If you want to bring a monitor and PS3 you're more then welcome to digitaldemize! That should bring our set ups to 4, which I'd imagine would be more then enough. :)

I didn't read the post, I saw MK and NOVA, in the matchmaking section and I copy pasted my post to advertise. Apparently this makes me a moron, ok.

I don't really see the point of having a "get together" on the same day as a fairly sizable tournament in your same state... but you guys do what you wanna do.

I hope your event goes well, and maybe next time. If anyone would rather do something more low key, I'll point them your way and hope you'll return the favor for people who want a tourney.

Will do, pretty sure I can drag my neighbor out to, he lives in the same building. I got the ride worked out, so we'll see what we can do.

Rain or not we're definitely still on, obviously the whole BBQ thing might be nixed this time around if it's raining. If so we'll probably get some Pizzas instead or something similar. But either way, it wont have an affect on the MK! =)

obviously this rain might have some effect though. If it keeps up like this some people might not be able to come out. Biggest thing is for everyone to be safe. I work from home so i haven't seen the actual road conditions yet - but I have heard that many roads are flooded, including larger roads like 7. Hopefully it clears up by tomorrow.

I was going through the entire VA thread and the meet and greet was actually first mentioned by Nordic on July 6. It was planned well in advance. Though I won't be able to go to either the meet and greet or RCR because I'm on call for work.

I'm so stupid I didn't notice this thread until Eaziel gave me a heads up yesterday. I just registered to Rivercity Runbacks 2 days ago so I'm gonna have to miss out on this. I really hope you guys can do it again soon (maybe in 2-3 weeks :) ) because I really want to get involved in the offline scene.

Some roads flooded others didn't, today has been pretty mild though. Plus news of the terror plot on DC and NYC and the 3 guys the CIA and FBI are looking for is all the news cares about now.

Well it looks like they're not calling for rain until the afternoon tomorrow (beyond 4pm), and even then it's a below %50 chance. So we'll still be on for some grillin'. When you arrive if it does happen to rain just knock on the front door, but in all likelihood it wont be and in that case just walk around back. :)

Much fun was had, the place is amazing, should do again. It's kinda a shame that one sub mirror match wasn't recorded, funny stuff. Though still, I've never seen anybody dodge cyrax nades like that, impressive.

Yea, this was a pretty epic meet-up for MK. Thanks to Nordic and our gracious host for setting this all up and providing a location. Hopefully we can do it all again sometime. Maybe we can edit the first post to contain a list of potential hosts? It is tough finding a nice venue for all these people so that could be a big help in making this a fairly regular occurrence.

Also, gotta find out how to change my forum name to down1 since it has stuck from two tournaments now...
