Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite

Marvel and Capcom characters will duke it out in a new crossover fighting game coming to consoles next year. Multiple sources tell Polygon that Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is currently in development and slated for release sometime in 2017.

Capcom will unveil Marvel vs. Capcom 4 this week alongside Sony’s PlayStation Experience event, we’ve been told, where the Capcom Cup 2016 Street Fighter 5tournament will be held.

Fans of the series should expect Marvel vs. Capcom 4's roster of Marvel characters to draw strongly from the cinematic universe that Marvel Studios has popularized — and has full control over — during the past decade. That means fighting game fans will more likely see characters plucked from The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy films, and not from properties like the X-Men. Expect to see superheroes like Ant-Man and Groot make appearances, with characters of mutant origin — think Wolverine and Magneto — sitting out this entry.

A lack of X-Men characters in the next Marvel vs. Capcom would be a major departure for the franchise, which has roots that extend back to Capcom’s 1994 fighting game, X-Men: Children of the Atom.

The last game in the crossover franchise, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, was released in early 2011 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A follow-up, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, was released later that year. Those games featured X-Men mainstays Wolverine, Magneto, Phoenix, Storm, X-23 and Sentinel as playable characters.

Capcom's license with Marvel expired in 2013, and the Marvel vs. Capcom games and their downloadable content were pulled from Microsoft and Sony's online stores at the end of that year. Capcom hasn't been able to make changes to the games since, despite pleas from fans to update the game.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's popularity among fighting game fans remains strong, however. The game is still featured at the annual Evo fighting game tournament, and we've heard that there may be good news for fans of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 specifically coming soon as well.

When we spoke to Marvel Games vice president Jay Ong earlier this year, he said the team at Marvel was well aware of fan interest in seeing another Marvel vs. Capcom game.

"There's nothing we can say at this time," Ong told Polygon at the time. "Let's just say that we hear that a lot. We love our fans and we certainly want to please them. Beyond that we can't say anything at this time. But who knows what the future holds?"

When reached for comment, a spokesperson told Polygon via email “Capcom does not comment on rumors or speculation.”

Where there is smoke, there is cancer.
I feel like I missed out with all the MvC3 hype. I'll definitely pick up and play 4 if it's out! I'll finally be able to understand what's on the screen rather than just seeing missiles and big red X's and people flying off the screen and the massive combos.

No official announcement but I'm low key pretty hyped lol.

Fujin!
they still dont have a source lol theyre probably just reporting on those fake pictures like everyone else
Not saying it's true that the game is coming, but the author on Twitter said that his sources are independent from the ones on NeoGaf (which is where the pics blew-up) and he also mentioned nothing about the pics. I'm pretty sure these are different guys he is talking about.

There's been rumors of this game for a while now. Multiple FGC members and leakers (some with and without credibility) has been claiming that's going to happen for a while now. There was even stuff about this happening from like a month or two ago.

Again, I'm not saying it's true. But there's a LOT of people putting their credibility on the line right now.

That's pretty much the biggest thing putting this off. However, that was from a couple months ago and it's possible that he could be lying. Apparently the guy has a past for trolling, and there's been a lot of times in the gaming industry where people lie just to keep a surprise.

I guess we'll see if it's true in 5 days.

I'm a huge UMVC3 fan but I have nothing but doubt right now. I remember getting hype last time when they said that UMVC3 might get one last patch but that never happened. I'm done getting my hopes up especially when the creator straight up said it wasn't happening.

Iowa's Finest.
As much as I love Marvel, I couldn't get into UMVC3. It's just so much flashy bullshit happening all at once and the whole goal was to fucking cross up your opponent or cause a block paradox with the silliest nonsense that the characters were capable of.

Foot dive, teleport, cross up, teleport, cross up, long and boring super, x-factor, 80% derp combo. Nope.

One small opening and 1 of your characters dies. In MK9 we used to call it "some Cyrax bullshit.", but no one ever cared about how hyper offensive the game was. Guhhhhhh

I am sad because I'd rather IJ2 get a fair shot, but it'll be back to, "When's Mahvel".

Fuck.

The SCR scene is claiming its all fake. I want to believe so badly though! Marvel is the only game I play in tournament I love it so much.

I'm so sad about Marvel excluding X-Men from every new game, don't know if the article is true but Marvel is following that pattern with any new game... that and making all the X-Men comics shitty stories to lower their popularity and stelirizing all mutant characters so that Fox can't claim any new character (for real)... what a joke. It seems like X-Men are going to be transformed into Inhumans during next year's main event so that Marvel can use them in movies...

I miss the Astonishing X-Men days and still hope someday the entire Marvel universe is magically retconned like the last 5 years or more never happened, I loved my X-Men so much... U.U /rant off

Im sure the rumors are just merely rumors. This game would have been announced/released a long time ago.

Too many licensing (money) issues from both parties... Money, always get in the way of what people want.

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
I would probably lose my mind to have both Injustice 2 and MVC4 at the same EVO. I'd buy tickets for certain.

Also if the no mutants cinemaverse is true that would likely mean its over the FOX vs Disney rights in which case Fantastic Four is out too.

That'd mean no Storm, Sentinel, Magneto...the final death of Team 10 more Years. Not only that but with no Wolverine, Dr Doom, Sentinel or Magneto assists in the meta it'd be a huge deal. Rushdown folk flock to Wolverine, and for lockdown or zoning assist you always see Doom missiles/lasers/rocks, Magneto Disruptor, or Sentinel Drones. This would turn team building on its ear before any other changes to systems or cast could be considered. Those assists have been the backbone of teams for nearly two decades. Lots of team experimentation would occur with those cuts.

Likely surrogate cast with similar assists could be made...Necalli for Berzerker slash, Ultron for Drones or Hidden Missiles, Vision for Disruptor, Heck even Falcon could take on things or any other new cast could handle the role. However that part is all speculative. If the rumor is true the only thing certain is that MANY backbone assists and teamates are GONE already.

Get hype.
