congrats Billy...undefeated even, very nice. wish I had gotten to fight your Lao w my Kitana :(

DCIguy: Caldwell and I have an idea for next tournament. what do you think of a best of 9, free select, but banned top tier? since Billy won with Lao and Raiden he showed that top tier can be overrated. but it might make for more exciting matchups if Mileena Jax and Kang are out of the picture. and that's coming from somewho who used Mileena in 90% of my matches today!

We can talk about it more at length over the next couple days. I think most people would like to play a longer series for sure.

On an unrelated subject, I am sorry to report that due to his repeated track record of no-showing tournaments, john2kx is banned from all future online tournaments.

Thanks to DCIguy for running a great tournament. One nighters are the only way to go from now on. That went relatively smooth.

DCIguy, should I post the vids in this thread or in the match thread?

Very solid gameplay Mike. He didn't know what to do about your zoning... and didn't throw a sai once.

Can't wait for more footage of this tourney.

A few things I would like to say regarding this tournament. First of all, thank you to EVERYBODY who came out and participated. I've said it before...it doesn't matter how good (or bad) of a player you are. All that matters is that you support the games. Regarding those who did not show up, please remember the next time. Multiple no-shows will put your chances of participating in future tournaments in jeopardy. Thanks to MIKECALDWELL and Cuko for providing video footage. I would have provided videos for my matches, but as a reserve I wasn't expecting to play and was unprepared.

For all future tournaments, I am making the following mandatory... YOU MUST BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE CHAT ROOM. In addition, you must have a copy of the brackets up at all times. I had to go back and forth between the TYM Chat and PSN messages constantly to make sure people were on the same page and it was a lot more hassle than necessary. Going forward, if you cannot access the chat room you will not be permitted to play.

Just by gauging interest and availability, how soon would you guys like to see another tournament? The earliest I can run another one would be in 2 weeks (April 7th.)

First and foremost I wanna thank DCIguy for holding such a well run tournament. It was fast and in my opinion, one of the best run online tournaments I have been involved in. I also wanna give a shout out to everyone who was involved, MK2 has been dead as of late, and it was fun to have a tournament that could bring us all together in the spirit of competition. I did not expect to win this tournament. I actually expected it to be won by either MIKECALDWELL, btbb99, or mortal_jason. These guys are among the absolute best when it comes to MK2.

I have to give a special shout out to my "Winners-Finals" and "Grand-Finals" opponent MIKECALDWELL. I want people to see that although I won this tournament, it did not come easy. My matches with Mike came down to the wire, "Winners-Final" 3 games to 2, and "Grand-Finals" 4 games to 3. Great games Mike, the videos you uploaded are proof that you are one of the best MK2 players around.

Thanks for the great compliment. Each one I run gets a little bit better every time. I tried to make this tournament mirror what an offline MK major feels like. Shorter series help to move the tournament along and it puts an increased importance on every single ROUND you play. That said, I've gotten feedback that people would like to see longer series (3 out of 5) in regular matchups. I'm not against it, but anything longer than that may slow the general flow of things. We can give it a try next time. This tournament finished in about 2 hours, give or take, which I think is a perfect time-frame.

First off, Thanks to DCIguy for running this tournament. It looks as if this was one of the best ran tourneys i've ever seen except for a few people not showing up or on time *eh hem cough cough. But on a more serious note I want to apoligise to everyone involved for my tardiness. I can assure you it won't happen again.

But Congratulations to my good friend billy_bats1427 for winning this tournament. Billy has came along way in the past year and is definitely a force to be wrekoned with. Also congrats to my other good friend MIKECALDWELL on making it to the finals. Those matches between the two of you guys were very entertaining to watch, as were all the other vids as well. Thanks for recording guys, beautiful quality vids I might add :)

@DCI, Mike and I were discussing the possibilty of a tourney were top tier is banned. I think this could make an intresting and fun new aproach to the game. Looking foward to possibly seeing this ran in the near future!

nice vids guys...I'll watch more of them later. I gotta get a new tv coz the graphics look way better on yours than on my 20 yr old set. HD tvs?

LOL at your commentary CUKO :D I was nervous as hell...started to get it going at the end there but hard to play when your hands are shakin. I am better with Mileena vs nearly all the characters, even if Kitana is the one people most know me for. she's the best fighter in the game...that's just how it is.

Caldwell: you can tell we were both playing to win eh? those first 2 matches were pretty uneventful, then the Mileena mirrors got a lot more exciting at least. that 3rd match Mileena mirror was painful to experience again. lol at you telling your friend to STFU haha

I'm up for a new tournament whenever! banned top tier yeah!

MikeCaldwell, BillyBats, Gematria, Cuko and myself all were in a chat this evening and we came to the consensus that it won't be hard to get a lot of people on board for another tourney in a short time-frame. Ideally though, we would like to get a bigger audience (wouldn't we all.) The dream has always been to amass a 32+ man bracket for MK2. It hasn't been done since the days of UMK back in 2008 when I first started playing MK seriously. It is going to take some advertising to be sure, but it will ultimately rely on you guys to spread it via word of mouth.

A lot of good ideas are being thrown around by everyone. I've heard asking for larger sets, banning top tier, going single elimination with a larger entrant base, prize tournies with entry fees, etc. I'll address them all this week, but I will hit upon one of them right now...

I can tell you that if we expect to attract more newcomers to the game, you will have to allow all characters to be available to all players (unless we do random select.) Some players are character specialists with one of those high-tiered characters, or perhaps they just prefer them over the other characters for unrelated reasons. Unless the MK2 mainstays (myself, MikeC, Jason, Brian, etc) are in favor of voluntarily handicapping themselves and not picking top tier while everyone else picks their best, that idea simply won't fly.

More to come later this week.
