MikeCaldwell, BillyBats, Gematria, Cuko and myself all were in a chat this evening and we came to the consensus that it won't be hard to get a lot of people on board for another tourney in a short time-frame. Ideally though, we would like to get a bigger audience (wouldn't we all.) The dream has always been to amass a 32+ man bracket for MK2. It hasn't been done since the days of UMK back in 2008 when I first started playing MK seriously. It is going to take some advertising to be sure, but it will ultimately rely on you guys to spread it via word of mouth.
A lot of good ideas are being thrown around by everyone. I've heard asking for larger sets, banning top tier, going single elimination with a larger entrant base, prize tournies with entry fees, etc. I'll address them all this week, but I will hit upon one of them right now...
I can tell you that if we expect to attract more newcomers to the game, you will have to allow all characters to be available to all players (unless we do random select.) Some players are character specialists with one of those high-tiered characters, or perhaps they just prefer them over the other characters for unrelated reasons. Unless the MK2 mainstays (myself, MikeC, Jason, Brian, etc) are in favor of voluntarily handicapping themselves and not picking top tier while everyone else picks their best, that idea simply won't fly.
More to come later this week.
