Hey guys.
I've mained war god Kotal, since day 1. While I know the character has never been bad, and i'm quite blessed in this regard, I don't think he has ever been in a better place than he is now.
With the 2 most recent patches, one last night on the 29/03/16, and 01/03/16 respectively, I feel Kotal has been pushing up the tier list seemingly un-noticed. I have 3 Main reasons for thinking this. Please, take all this as opinion. I personally feel Kotal is now a top 10 character, but others may not and that's fine. Here are the 3 reasons I feel that Kotal is now in the best position since launch
1. He has not recieved ANY nerfs in recent patches, while many of the characters competing with him have
Okay, so If we look at the characters that are in and around Kotal prior to the patches. (Pre 01/03/16). We see many faces that have either been nerfed, or changed in a way that make them weaker. Prime examples being Tremor, Jax, and most of the S tier echelon characters. Although these characters getting worse does not inherently make Kotal better, It leaves an opening that he could possibly take in the top 10 characters. If we discount Tanya, Tremor, Jax, Quan. That's 4 spaces that other characters could occupy in the top 10. I personally feel Kotal does now Occupy one of those spaces.
2. Kotal has been seen in the top 3 of the last 2 majors worldwide.
Over the last 2 weeks, 2 tournaments have taken place. Final Round 19 in the US, and Viennality, In Austria. In both of these tournaments, a Kotal Kahn player has made top 3. These are Pnut, and Tekken master respectively. I can already see the 'Tournament placings dont mean top tier' Argument coming, and that's true. But, Kotal has never placed anywhere near top 3, with the same representation, nobody new has picked Kotal up and played him in tournament.
3. Kotal's tools deal with the higher tier characters better now than they did before.
Okay this is the one that is gonna get me roasted, if any do.
In the current state of the game, the dust is just beginning to settle as to the characters that are seen as super good in the new meta post 01/03/16. Characters such as Mileena, Alien, Johnny, are all seen as super good. Pre 01/03/16, Characters such as Lao, Liu, Quan, Tremor, Tanya dominated the competitive scene, and they were the hyper S+ of the game.
My point here, is that the higher tier characters of old, aforementioned examples included, dealt with Kotal far better than the new ones do. I'm not going to go into too much detail with this, I don't have the effort in me, and I'm sure there's already another 'Top 5' debate thread going on, which was made after patch day *Sigh*.
TL;DR Kotal's bad MU are now lower in the tier list than before, making him more viable in more situatuons and betterr in a tournament setting.
