Are there any videos or matches i could watch for Sun God/Blood God? I think I'm ending on Kotal for the character I like the most in MKX and I'd really like to play more than just War God.
Mr Aquaman played at a weekly with just Blood God recently. Here he is in the grand finals, but there are several matches from that weekly up if you look for them. Also notice the pop off at the end directed at a lot of us here. He did really well, but a lot of it screamed a lack of matchup knowledge with all the missed punish opportunities from his opponent.

Bad spacing, no whiff punishes, no matchup knowledge, sub-optimal combos and a mediocre level of play is what I'm seeing. It's clear aqua is the best of the bunch, painfully clear.

Just a miserable pile of secrets.
It kinda looks like playing War God is frowned upon these days ... I don't know, if you look at Kotal's forum almost every one is working around the clock in the lab to make Sun God and Blood God viable.
I must admit I came to the Kotal Family for Sun God at the beggining but now, War God has really grown on me and it became my favorite variation. It saddens me to see there is no more love for the sword weilding God ...
We don't even have sticky thread for each variation like some other characters forums.

Anyway I just had a question about db3 (the sword shake), when you cancel it on block is it +frame or just safe? I think I've read somewhere it's + on block but I tried in practice against D'vorah (reversal ovipo... something the i10 special db4) and there's no way I can even do d1 or d4 before getting hit !
So I was wondering ...

Basically this. And lack of punishing is a big issue going forward. People still aren't consistently punishing all of Blood God and Sun God's unsafe shit. Just wait until they do.

That's because it's slightly negative on block.

Make a Kotal Khan Punish thread.

Show TYM what character's blockstrings( or Specials) that punishes - on block normals, blockstrings & specials of Kotal Khan.

I'm not going to do other people's jobs for them. They wanna lose to random kotals because they don't know the matchup, their fault.

The frame data is right there.

There's something I've been wanting to discuss lately. I don't know how much this applies to Sun or Blood God, but I've always found War God to be rather meter reliant. What I've been wondering is what sort of gain other people consider worth spending a bar on. For example, I feel like the combo f34~ex db1, f1b2~df2 isn't really worth it unless it would win you the match because it's only an 11% gain over a meterless combo off of f34. The difference between War God's f2 meter and meterless combo is 8%. I'd rather keep the meter for use as armor that could start combo, save it for a higher damage combo, block pressure that will recoup much of the cost, or breaker.

This is also much the same rationale as to why I never go for a 2/3 bar combo. There simply isn't enough of a yield. I just want to know what amount of a damage increase other people consider worth using a bar of meter on if the combo wouldn't kill. Personally, I want to get about a 15% damage increase.

Am I wrong in my thinking? If so, please tell me why in detail. I'm always happy to hear how wrong I am if there's a solid reasoning behind it.

I spend my meter anytime I can do a big hitting meterless combo, never off of situations where my metered combo will still do damage in the 20s or low 30s.

I tend to spend a bar or two on ex sunstone per game.

@Second Saint, I agree. I only spend meter when I'm getting significant returns off of it (i.e. 15%+), unless, as you've said, using the bar will win me the round. Having the meter for wake ups, as well as breakers in some match ups, is just too important.

@Second Saint I play Sun God and I feel he is very reliant on metre.
In combos it's all about getting that EX air grab to extend them so you can do maximum damage.
Then there is the occasional EX projectile to end a short combo or catch someone off-guard.
On defence/offence it's about being able to do that armoured command grab (moon god choke).
And on defence that EX parry can help turn the tide against an opponent pressuring you.
I almost never spend metre on sun rays and I never spend metre on his health-gaining soul scorch move.

Combos that require more than 1 bar of metre seem unpopular with nearly every character in this game so far.

As far as I'm aware Sun God Kotal does not have an EX combo starter at all so metre doesn't matter much to him in that regard. At the same time, War God's EX sword overhead is one of the main reasons he's viable in tournaments if you ask me.

On a final note, if I can get an extra 11% of damage for 1 metre I will usually take it.

... block and dash forward, block and dash forward.
Run canceling is probably better. Kotal Kahn has a fantastic run.

Do you think that is viable against summoner quan chi?
Quan Chi is just kind of stupid in general. I don't know what NRS was thinking but he's more frustrating than fun to deal with. I wouldn't pick Sun God into him though, the level 3 throwing him exactly where he wants to be is probably a detriment. I don't think I've played that many though, so I don't have a solid opinion on the match-up.

quan chi is 100% war god matchup, you punish njp, dont leave him nearly fullscreen and have good armour

I'm playing the PC version, so its not up to date. I know someone who plays summoner quan chi and its almost impossible to reach him. Its a endless amount of mid projectiles and if I try to move I get hit with the bat.
