I'm gonna make this skill gap... disappear.
@AK Pig Of The Hut, I see what your saying, but I think you're looking at the situation (Killer Instinct being released with 6 characters and such) the wrong way.
Yes, it sucks that Microsoft is able to influence studios to rush their product out the door like this, I completely agree there.
But I think, in line with what you've been saying about imagining Injustice being released with only a handful of characters, you have to also consider the timelines as well.
So imagine Injustice being released with, let's say, 8 characters, but a year prior to when it was actually released.
I kinda like this model in some ways. It allows players to focus more on matchups because there aren't such a vast amount to learn, and really identify what they need to work on. I love Injustice, but it can be a little overwhelming to learn all of the tech in such a huge roster if you can't play constantly and don't play certain characters often.
Now the game can evolve with the meta and future characters are able to be fit into that meta more appropriately. AND, we get more time with the game in the beginning, which is pretty cool. More time for character issues to be fleshed out and dealt with (I can't speak for every character in Injustice, but I know Joker's parry and some of his mid-whiffing strings really needed to be addressed and never were).
You're right that it's troubling that the game might be short lived due to a lack of interest, but I think interest is only going to go up as time goes on, with more content being released, more people buying the system (Titanfall bro, Titanfall), and more people giving it a chance.
It's extremely accessible in terms of being able to play it when you own the system and the mechanics of the game, and though the combo system is very unique, it's pretty easy to learn.
All in all, I think the future is looking bright for the game, and it will likely thrive as long as it continues to improve, so please don't CD Jr it quite yet...
