It's all so very confusing.
Finally got a handful of games in yesterday. I think I enjoyed myself more in the 9 or so I played than I have playing any FG in a long ass time. Stuck to Kim Wu and it took a few games to settle down (also using pad, I spent the entire first game unable to do specials because I was rushing and missing inputs) but once I did, I ran back my losses and ended up dominating.

I've been playing sfv for so long, it's just so odd to play a game that had such freedom and creativity built into it. For better or worse sfv is a rigidly structured game - everyone's game plan is essentially exactly the same except like one or two characters. Everyone basically has one BNB , one CH combo, one vtrigger combo, a cc button, a poke and a pressure button. The only real difference is how close or far you want to be when you press them. That's not inherently a bad thing, and I don't mean this to bash sfv (I will bash sfv though) I just mean it to illustrate the different approach KI takes with it's endlessly creative neutral, combo system and vastly different characters.

It's always great to hear about others enjoying KI! I play most fighters and enjoy each one for what they have to offer but KI always keeps me coming back to it.
I haven't played against a Kim in a while

How were they different from how they are now?
IG added more "hitstop" to every attack in the game so everything attack has more pause which makes combos more slow and they changed the manual system to where you can only do a manual equal to or lower than the strength of your linker. The combo system has changed quite a bit since season 1 and mostly for the better.
Edit: look up some season 1 Jago manuals, you could get so much more creative especially in instinct, plenty of times you could skip linkers entirely and do multiple manuals in a row.

Really? I swear to crap I could link st.lk after a medium kick linker as Kim. Maybe I'm just confused though

LOL I said it backwards my bad
Gotcha. That is interesting.. So, if I initiate a combo with, say, cr.mk > mp.firecracker, is the cr.mk considered the opener and the firecracker the linker, or does the system consider the firecracker actually the opener? I ask because on Kim, after the first special move I do in a combo, it *seems* like I can link almost any manual, with a couple exceptions, but after that first special move linker/opener I cant seem to link any strength any more, but I could also just be super bad at this game.

Also, does anyone know why when I hit st.hk x qcb.lk, if I do it quickly, I get st.hk into hk.Dragon Dance instead of lk.Dragon Dance? With inputs on it shows a clear seperation, HK > Down > DownBack > Back > LK., Its hardly an issue and doesn't seem to do it with any other combo, just a curiosity I noticed. my HK is Right Trigger on my ps4 pad, so maybe its a negative edge thing since the trigger has so much travel distance, Shrug.

Not sure the question but certain specials act different in neutral than as a linker. Did you maybe drop the combo? Don't remember if fulgores teleport is a linker but I know spinal can get blown up for it

I love this game to death but randomness is rewarded way way too much. It almost ruins the experience completely I hate losing because of bad luck. I keep saying I'm gonna stop playing ranked but there is no one else to play with cause this game is on it's last legs.

Maybe you're just not as good as you think you are.

Yeah, not feeling Evo too terribly much any more to be honest. With the quantity and quality of other events on the rise, I think Evo's importance is really starting to fade, which given the directions they have been taking, is probably for the better. Not to say I want Evo to fail or its bad or anything of the sort, but merely that it defining what games are and arent relevant is a shitty prospect.

I mean, basing things just on Evo, SFV is going to be "the" game.. and that's actually REALLY sad. Like, REALLLLLY sad. SFV has potential to be AMAZING, but Capcom's utterly pathetic handling of the game and its community coupled with an outdated approach to management, all wrapped around the barely-even-beta shell of the game itself.. means to me, the game doesn't DESERVE to be so lauded when there are other games who's devs and communities are bleeding to make their game amazing.. Hell, if you watch *any* interview with an SFV pro almost no one has positive things to say. A huge chunk of the pro SF scene is there because the sponsors are, not because they like the game or its myriad of problems 'arent that bad'. I know SFV gets top billing because the money is there and the population is there, and thats ultimately fine and understandable, I just wish evo would use the power it has to help give games like KI more exposure.

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
Its EVO. Its a shoryuken celebration at its core. It will ALWAYS prioritize a capcom fighter as its center piece. KI, MK...these two arcade arch rivals will always take a mediocre seat behind the "main show" of whatever capcom product is out there. EVO isn't even the best event these days. Split venues, bracket issues, console patch issues, monitor issues, chair issues, scheduling events in such a manner that players are either double booked in two different tournies to play at the same time or the final day is booked to give them such an early top 8 they get no rest, and of course the ever so crap recurring issues of reserved seating leaving said main events EMPTY at early hours because no one showsup early to get a seat for later stuff leaving the venue dead and empty till folks can sleep in or show up near their event. Kills the energy when you tell most of the crowd they dont have to come and it insures that only later booked shows look like they have fans when they just get to take advantage of time slots that let their audience sleep in enough to HAVE any energy and to capitalize on the look of folks still in attendance from earlier sets to give the impression of a far larger popularity than the rest of the venue. When you market it this way you tend to just self feed more entrants in the only events that get treated well too insuring higher turnouts for some than others.

EVO is joke and its all on the FGC. Its Capcom front and center, the rest as an after thought, and only recently Smash/Nintendo as a big thing and thats because it brings in MONEY and thats just business. Remember it wasn't until the vote in that Smash even got put back in EVO. The numbers and dollars kept it there after that experiment. Till then...they didn't care.

I'll stick to CEO events.

Why does Shinsakos instinct sometimes linger even after shes out of instinct. It's already annoying enough -_-
