Ninjas > Special Forces
Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to week 2 of the CFAS (Console Fighter All Stars) Mortal Kombat X League. Unfortunately, our plans to stream this week’s event fell through. Hopefully we will be able to start streaming next week, so you can all join us every Wednesday for Wednesday Night Strikes!

Just to recap week 1, grand finals saw KevoDaMan’s Kobu Jutsu Tanya overtake Witness’ Dragon’s Fire Liu Kang, for yet another first place finish for Kevo. Would he repeat his victory in the 10 man tournament this week? Read on to find out!

Note: This was originally MUCH longer. I condensed it to simply highlights for the sake of brevity…

@Gito666 (Hellfire Scorpion) Vs. @Take$$$ (Swarm Queen D’Vorah)
- Take$$$ pulled off several flashy kombos, but seemed to be a bit rusty with his bug cancels, allowing Gito to take advantage of missed opportunities.
- A few well-placed flame auras and teleports allowed Gito to take 2 quick rounds, knocking Take$$$ into loser’s bracket in the first match of the night.
Results: Gito 2 – Take$$$ 0

@The Magician (Kobu Jutsu Tanya) Vs. @FlipinFlava (Venomous D’Vorah)
-A battle of the Evo 2015 participants, Magician came out of the gate strong with insane Kobu Tanya pressure, winning the first match quite decisively by simply cornering FlipinFlava’s D’Vorah and not letting up.
- The second match saw a more methodical Flava using D’Vorah’s poisonous pincers to his advantage. He managed to poison Tanya down to half of her life bar, before Magician took hold of the reigns again, forcing Flava back into the corner and utilizing Tanya’s quick rekka strings to pressure D’Vorah to death.
Results: Magician 2 – Flipin Flava 0

@XxDark_ (Buzzsaw Kung Lao, Pyromancer Tanya) Vs. @KevoDaMaN (Boneshaper Shinnok)
- CFAS newcomer Dark Assassin would have to face off against reigning champion KevoDaMan in their first match of the night. Dark made excellent use of Buzzsaw Kung Lao’s low hats, taking a round off the champ. Kevo’s brand new Boneshaper Shinnok, however, looked very solid, enabling him to take match 1.
- Dark switched to Pyromancer Tanya, a variation not often seen at Wednesday Night Strikes. He smacked Kevo’s Shinnok with the purple haze several times, but was simply unable to capitalize with fireballs due to Kevo’s excellent pressure. Kevo’s great reads (especially a blocked corkscrew kick to end round 1) eventually led him to victory.
Results: KevoDaMan 2 – xxDark 0

@flipkev (Balanced Kenshi) Vs. FlipinFlava(Venomous D’Vorah)
- The battle of the Flips began with Flava dodging almost all of FlipKev’s Kenshi zoning. Although FlipKev landed several rising karmas and shoulder charges, Flava’s excellent mobility allowed him to win round 1. FlipKev played much more patiently during round 2, but FlipinFlava was able to close out the round with a well placed acid hand.
- Match 2 saw even more acid spewing from D’Vorah, and although every round was close, Flava closed it out with what is quickly becoming the FlipinFlava special: a sudden, unexpected XRay attack! (Tom Brady who?!)
Results: FlipinFlava 2 – FlipKev 0

Winner’s Bracket: Gito (Hellfire Scorpion) Vs. KevoDaMan (Boneshaper Shinnok)
-The battle of student against mentor would be a short lived one. Gito attempted to utilize his usual blend of flame aura, and fireball cancel pressure, yet Kevo’s footsies were impeccable. He showed expert knowledge of when to back off and wait for Scorpion to inevitably jump, and when to run in and begin his pressure. This knowledge would lead to a succinct 2-0 victory in Kevo’s favor, knocking Gito into loser’s bracket while securing his place in Winner’s Finals.
Results: KevoDaMan 2 – Gito 0

Maximus Dread (Master of Storms Raiden) Vs. @Omgzilla (Thunder God Raiden)
- Military man Omgzilla makes his CFAS debut in an exciting Raiden mirror against Maximus Dread. Thank you for your service, Ken!
- This may as well have been called the Superman Showdown. There were Raidens flying all over the screen for the entirety of the set.
- Dread took match 1 with a potent combination of lightning orb traps and Superman dives.
- Omgzilla started down the comeback trail in match 2, landing several of TG Raiden’s high damage kombos to win round 1. Maximus Dread would not falter, though, and he would take the next two rounds with so many lightning traps, one could not even tell where or when they were going to connect.
Results: Maximus Dread 2 – Omgzilla 0

Loser’s Bracket: Take$$$ (Aftershock Tremor) Vs. Omgzilla (Thunder God Raiden)
- Take$$$ becomes the first person to use Tremor at Wednesday Night Strikes.
- Omgzilla did well in round 1, with several well placed uppercuts and Superman dives, but Take$$$ pressured him with Tremor’s air ground shake. After taking round 1, $$$ quickly wins round 2 with a mean combination of rock showers, and well placed down 4’s (in my opinion, the coolest looking D4 in the game)
- Match 2 was very even at the offset. Both players were down to their last bit of health, but Omgzilla won round 1 with a perfectly timed throw to grab Tremor out of his rock uppercut move! $$$ showed perfect adaptation, though, as the next two rounds saw him play keep away. A bombardment of air ground shakes, rock showers, and grounded unblockables would lead to Omgzilla’s demise.
Results: Take$$$ 2 – Omgzilla 0

Loser’s Bracket: Take$$$ (Aftershock Tremor, Swarm Queen D’Vorah) Vs. Dark Assassin (Buzzsaw Kung Lao)
- Take$$$ continued to take advantage of Tremor’s ground shake attacks, but Dark expertly utilized Kung Lao’s air mobility to dip, duck, and dodge most of Tremor’s offense. Match 1 would end with a perfectly timed teleport from Dark’s KL to go up 1-0.
- $$$ abided by the old philosophy: if you’re going to get knocked out of the tournament, do it with your main character. He switched to Swarm Queen D’Vorah. It paid off, after a close round 1 ended with a sneaky uppercut from the Swarm Queen.
- The momentum shifted in round 2, as Dark applied plentiful pressure with Kung Lao, throwing hats up, down, and every which way. The round would end in a very hype moment as KL knocked D’Vorah out of an attempted bug cancel with an EX spin.
- Round 3 would be the closest round yet, with both players ending up at 5% health. After a carefully played match by both contestants, Take$$$ managed to just BARELY chip out Dark to make it 1-1.
- Dark was not happy. He and his Kung Lao turned the aggression up to 11, and would eventually go on to take the final match of the set with an EX spin.
Results: Dark Assassin 2 – Take$$$ 1

Maximus Dread (Master of Storms Raiden) Vs. @WITNESS (Dragon’s Fire Liu Kang)
- Witness seemed to have Dread’s number in this match. He simply did not even give Dread a moment’s peace to set up those lightning orb traps. Using his signature Liu Kang fireball cancel pressure, Witness quickly won two rounds to decisively win match 1.
- Maximus Dread was determined to set up his traps in match 2. He kept his distance from Liu Kang, and attempted to begin throwing out orbs. Witness adapted beautifully, however, and began a keep away game of his own. He frustrated Dread with a barrage of Liu Kang fireballs, until Dread had no choice but to get up close and personal. This, of course, is where Liu Kang shines, and Witness would continue his pressure until the conclusion of the match.
Results: Witness 2 – Maximus Dread 0

Loser’s Bracket: Maximus Dread (Master of Storms Raiden) Vs. FlipinFlava (Venomous D’Vorah)
- This set featured two players who were determined to play good footsies, in an attempt to remain in the tournament. Maximus Dread did a good job of setting up sneaky traps, but Flava effectively utilized all of D’Vorah’s stinger attacks, and would ultimately win the first match with an acid hand.
- In the second match, Dread would favor Raiden’s thunder grab attack over setting up traps. He continually Superman-ed FlipinFlava into the corner, followed by continuous pressure with Raiden’s excellent 50/50. The match was incredibly close, but Dread won with a great EX thunder grab.
- Building off this momentum, Maximus Dread continued to do a good job avoiding D’Vorah’s deadly stingers. FlipinFlava has an impressive tendency to backdash just out of his opponent’s range, then use those long-reaching stinger attacks to enact poison. Dread caught on, however, and won the match using more of those patented EX thunder grabs.
Results: Maximus Dread 2 – FlipinFlava 1

Winner’s Bracket: The Magician (Kobu Jutsu Tanya) Vs. Witness (Dragon’s Fire Liu Kang)
- Apologies, but I was not present during this match. I was told that it was a match full of pressure, which makes sense given the two characters involved. Magician would go on to win 2-0, knocking Witness into loser’s bracket.
Results: The Magician 2 – Witness 0

WINNER’S FINALS: The Magician (Kobu Jutsu Tanya, Warrior Predator) Vs. KevoDaMan (Boneshaper Shinnok)
- You wouldn’t think from watching Kevo that his Boneshaper was brand new, but he quickly took match 1 with his combination of great footsies and blockstring pressure. Tanya’s teleport shenanigans were no match for Shinnok’s meter burned hell sparks.
- In an interesting move, Magician decided to switch to the scarcely seen Warrior variation of Predator. Kevo seemed to be somewhat caught off guard by the move, as Magician took 1 round of off him by grabbing Shinnok out of an attempted bone scoop. KevoDaMan recomposed himself, however, and won the rest of the match by a large margin.
- After switching back to Kobu Tanya, Magician looked much more focused, using those rekkas to win round 1. Kevo answered back by playing much more patiently, waiting for Tanya to come to him so he could catch her in his bony pressure. Utilizing excellent pokes, Kevo would win match 2.
- Magician seemed to have figured KevoDaMan out, and initiated a poking game of his own. He was able to make some great reads to finally win a match in Winner’s Finals. Kevo was up 2-1.
- Match 4 was a super exciting display of pressure vs. pressure. It came down to round 3, but Kevo was able to overcome Magician to edge his way into Grand Finals, yet again.
Results: KevoDaMan 3 – The Magician 1

Loser’s Bracket: Dark Assassin (Grand Master Sub Zero, Buzzsaw Kung Lao) Vs. Witness (Dragon’s Fire Liu Kang)
- In an interesting move, Dark decided to start this set with Grand Master Sub, perhaps in an attempt to keep Witness’ aggressive Liu Kang out by means of the ice clone. It worked at first, as Dark was able to win the first round. Witness knew just what to do, though, and was able to throw enough fireballs to not only defeat the ice clone, but force Dark into the corner. There, he initiated his trusty fireball cancel pressure to bully Dark for the win.
- Dark decided to switch back to his main, Buzzsaw Kung Lao. This did not seem to phase Witness, as he did an excellent job of cornering Lao to continue his pressure. Realizing he needed to make something happen, Dark interrupted the pressure with an excellent EX spin, followed by multiple low hats. It looked as though he was gaining the upper hand, until Witness pushed him back into the corner, where he pressured Liu Kang to death.
Results: Witness 2 – Dark Assassin 0

Loser’s Bracket: Maximus Dread (Master of Storms Raiden) Vs. Gito (Hellfire Scorpion)
- Dread started the match by setting up his orb traps, but would errantly jump into the flaming arms of Scorpion several times, leading to several big kombos from Gito for the win.
- Switching tactics, Dread began to use the EX thunder grab that won him his last match, but Gito, in turn, adapted to this tactic and began to apply his fireball cancel pressure up close. After a hard fought battle, the God of Thunder would fall to the fiery spectre 2-0.
Results: Gito 2 – Maximus Dread 0

Loser’s Bracket: Witness (Dragon’s Fire Liu Kang) Vs. Gito (Hellfire Scorpion)
- This has become a staple match at CFAS Wednesday Night Strikes, and always ends up being a very close, very exciting battle of the fireball cancels.
- Match 1 concluded in spectacular fashion, as Witness threw out a YOLO XRay attack to win the final round.
- In a very close match 2, Witness unfortunately dropped a few key fireball cancels, allowing Gito to poke his way out and get the upper hand. The match would conclude with Scorpion fireball cancelling into a throw.
- Match 3 was equally close. In fact, if memory serves correctly, all 3 matches concluded in 3 close rounds. Witness looked to be on the path to victory, but an anti-air teleport from Scorpion changed the tides of battle, allowing Gito to barely make it into Loser’s Finals.
Results: Gito 2 – Witness 1

LOSER’S FINALS: The Magician (Kobu Jutsu Tanya, Hollywood Cassie) Vs. Gito (Hellfire Scorpion)
- An exciting loser’s finals saw Magician applying potent pressure with his Kobu Tanya. Gito tried to play patiently, however, and managed to block most of Tanya’s kombos and start up offense of his own to take match 1.
- Magician collected himself, and began utilizing more mixups. He threw Gito for a loop by occasionally ending blockstrings with a low corkscrew kick, while at other times ending with Tanya’s vicious overhead flip kick. This strategy proved effective, as he would go on to take match 2.
- Gito took advantage of this aggression in match 3 by playing footsies, and catching Tanya in Scorpion’s trusty flame aura several times. This would, in turn, lead to a match 3 victory for Gito.
- A comical exchange ensued before the 4th match, in which Magician’s brother, Take$$$, urged him to switch to Hollywood Cassie. KevoDaMan, however, insisted that Magician play who he wants, and stick with Tanya if he feels comfortable. Blood is thicker than water, apparently, as Magician decided to try his hand at Hollywood Cassie.
- Match 4 was close, with Magician utilizing Cassie’s nutpunch to great effect. In the hypest moment of the night, Magician managed to get Scorpion down to that oh-so-ominous flashing pixel of death. The angry flashing of the pixel did not deter Gito, however, and he was able to catch Cassie in one final kombo to take the set!
Results: Gito 3 – The Magician 1

GRAND FINALS: KevoDaMan (Boneshaper Shinnok)(W) Vs. Gito (Hellfire, Ninjutsu Scorpion)(L)
- Grand finals began with KevoDaMan doing what he does best: absolutely steam rolling the competition. Gito looked hopeless as Kevo smartly utilized footsies and excellent spacing to counter Scorpion’s every attack and take match 1.
- Kevo kept his momentum going in match 2, and seemed to be inside of Gito’s head. He seemed to guess correctly as to which way Gito would block nearly every single time he initiated Shinnok’s 50/50. This tactic would earn him a speedy victory in match 2.
- A flustered Gito would switch to Ninjutsu Scorpion in an attempt to out-footsie Kevo’s Shinnok. He was able to land a few kombos using the epic reach of Scorpion’s blades, but Kevo seemed un-phased, as he calmly made his way in and used meter burned hell sparks left and right for the win.
Results: KevoDaMan 3 – Gito 0

Pretty good, tho maybe have a quick summary to begin, then top 8 results etc, then a break down. But find your own niche.

3 things tho: 1. Events page? You didn't reference a page for anything in the post lol 2. post any links to social media pages (Facebook, Twitter) and 3. I need a logo for the group, one that hopefully has a generic theme or a MK theme, just not a modified SFV logo :) That way we can promote it on our Front page/twitter/Facbook etc etc. :coffee:

Thanks for the feedback, Mr. Static! I'll definitely incorporate those ideas into next week's.

1. I was referring to the TYM events page. I gotta see if we made Wednesday Night Strikes a recurring event... If not, I'll make sure it's done soon.

2. Will post the facebook link soon. I'm at work and can't get on atm.

3. @CFAS_Salyer is there anything we can do about the logo situation? Do we have any artists at CFAS?

Edit: WNS is, indeed, a recurring event on the TYM events page. For all those interested in attending, here ya go:

Sweet.

1. ah ok, my bad. lol

2. Cool, always use those links in your event & results threads. Get yourself more attention! :p

3. something i can use that's big, but also need something small like an avatar size.

and @CFAS_Salyer There was 2 or 3 threads made for the CFAS events, I deleted one that was the same as yours & the other I moved out. But for next week's event, click on post new event, but set it to recur every week so all you have to do is update some info in the post, like points, who won last week, etc any updates. Plus when weekly events just use one thread, it keeps the clutter low so that yours & everyone elses events don't get lost. Just FYI. Feel free to send me a message anytime. I'd love to make sure your event gets some love!! :coffee:

Looks like shinnok has won another local in Va... Darn, at this point my shinnok won't be a surprise factor anymore :/

Anyways, great write up.

I wonder if Kevo will come back to TYM and write those Ebonic essays of his again.

No racist, but that's the best way to describe them lmao.
