Jacqui render reveal

Lun

proud TERF!
*laughs in color swap ninja*

I don't like the colour-coded ninja either, but I'm scared of saying this in a MK forum.....

EDIT: come to think of it, comparing her to the colour-coded ninja is appropriate. I feel the same towards them as I feel towards Jacqui: I don't dislike them, but I don't really like them either.

1. She's hot, so that's my niche.
2. The game devs didn't personally cater the whole roster to fit your likes? I am SHOCKED.
Huh? Cater to me? I don't care for certain characters but I will still gladly play them if they fit my play style. Try again.

Okay, since you used that card against me, I'll use it to against you as well.

Why do you feel so personally attacked by those comments for some... odd reason, may I ask? I'm mad against people saying Burqa Kombat 11 there too, but do I try to point it out on some unrelated forum here? Get mad at people on Twitter? No. You cant change people, and you cant make them stop writing dumb shit. Welcome to the internet. Then, you come here and blame people on here for how "misogynistic" we are and how awful this community is. I dont like it.

Thanks for at least replying properly unlike some other people.

Now, think about how interesting a "strong black female" can be. It wouldnt be interesting. Just like how it would be boring if there was a "strong black male" character.

Maybe a bad example, but Ferra/Torr would be a good example of how interesting a "strong monster" can be and we all know how that ended up.
Don't come here pretending to be civil. You are on a rampage hurling insults in every direction then. Playing the victim and the saint. Frankly, it's boring. Strong black characters may not be boring at all for some especially considering much of the MK fandom is lolBlack. Lastly, pointing out the something as trivial as "dreadlocks" disrespects an entire culture which in itself speaks to your character. You have shown us who you are in a few simple keyboard smashing lines. Check your testosterone bro. Not a good look.

Man this thread feels like it derailed. Putting aside politics or any societal norm, all those characters can be fun to play. Hell some people may enjoy playing Hsu Hao idgaf. But to me, a character becomes shitty when:
  • His/her moves and options are limited or just gimmicks, which, at this stage, is impossible to tell for MK11
  • When they have a boring personality or a bland backstory with limited potential
Say what you will about Cassie but at least she gets a laugh here and there and has an attitude that's entertaining (nothing else though lets be honest). Jacqui, besides being Jax's daughter, has no defining characteristic. Same with Takeda for that matter. Maybe when playing through the story mode, they changed it but I much rather see many other characters before those kids

Krankk

Smoke & Noob & Rain
I will now list all of the things I dislike about Jacqui, in order from my biggest complains to nitpicky ones. I'm very sure, that most people, who dislike Jacqui will agree with quite a few of these points. Everyone else will see that none of these -in my opinion very valid complaints- have anything to do with Jacquis skin color or her gender.

1. I'm big into variety, when it comes to different playstyles in fighting games. Jacqui in my opinion doesn't bring that variety, because she is not only a regular human from the Special Forces... but she is also heavily modelled after her dad, who is another character. I like to compare her to She-Hulk in UMVC3. She-Hulk has the exact same power set as Hulk, yet she plays differently. But visually speaking, there is still not enough variation for me to really stand behind a character like She-Hulk. Or X-23. Or Jacqui Briggs.
Instead of those characters, I would like to have characters, who have an entirely different playstyle from the rest of the cast. Characters, who aren't similar to anyone and just do their own thing. She-Hulk smashes things in a different way than Hulk does. X-23 slashes things in a different way than Wolverine does. And Jacqui Briggs shoots guns and punches things slightly differently than her dad Jax.

I dislike Cassie for the same reason. Cassie doesn't really add anything to MK gameplay-wise. She is her dads and moms daughter. She shoots guns and copies a couple of their moves. Sure, she has a sassy personality, but that really doesn't up for the lack of her uninspired gameplay.
And I'm perfectly aware of the fact, that you might think differently about all of that. Maybe a couple of different special moves are enough for you to view a character as their own thing. But for me personally that's not the case. I want stronger visual and playstyle-related distinctions.

2. A playable character like Jacqui Briggs requires NRS to put artists on her to conceptualize her as a character. Then they need stunt-women to motion capture her moves. Then they need 3D artists to design her. Then they need balance testers, a voice actress, various visual items and so on. All of that costs time and money. That time and money are being put into her instead into a Sindel, or a Rain, or a Smoke or whomever more people would prefer to see. (Again, at the same character, who would in most cases come along with a unique playstyle.)

3. Jacquis role in the story is absolutely horrible. I've said it many times. Jacquis main purpose is to be Cassies best friend, Takedas love interest and the reason why Jax joins the fight. With that backstory she is the weakest of the Kombat Kids by default. All the other ones had a stronger backstory and more character development. Even Kung Jin, who isn't really that related to other major characters. But he at least has some stuff going for him and he was pretty much the only Green Arrow in modern MK, so he also had a distinctive playstyle. Jacqui did not. She was just there.

4. Jacquis design was absolutely, positively horrible in MKX. She legit looked as bland as generic as you would imagine regular canon fodder SF members to look like. That is unacceptable in a world, where you have insanely amazing character designs such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Smoke, Raiden, Mileena and many others.

5. Last but not least is the mere fact, that she is such an underwhelming >>> NEW <<< character. When you have a universe with such a large number of crazy cool characters, all of your new characters really need to kick the ball out of the park with her playstyle, their design, their personalities and so on. They have some big ass shoes to fill... Especially if characters such as Smoke, Rain and Mileena get benched in the process.
But Jacqui didn't have anything amazing going for her. She was too bland and too generic to compete with fan favorites, who are fan favorites for a reason. As I said before, 10 years down the road, Jacqui will be the Kobra of the modern era. No one will care about her. That is, if she remains as lackluster as she is right now.

And it's really, really important to note, that when I personally trash talk Jacqui, that I don't trash talk her as a single character. I trash talk her as a character, who has to go up against much, much, much cooler MK characters. And she is a character, who can't compete with these characters in the slightest. So the question becomes... What is the point of Jacqui?

What does Jacqui do/represent? Nothing in particular or important, just shows how annoying and worthless she's by saying dumb things such as "dId yOu jUsT sTaRe aT mY bUtT" and thinking she's strong
This is criticism I don't get though. Jacqui has as much personality as a ton of fighters that people are either clamoring for or happy to have back. What do Reptile or Baraka "represent" other than pure nostalgia? If you want to play this handwaving, dismissal game you can do it for tons of characters. People just break it out when its for a character that they don't personally like.

I'm not sure there's much proof how the majority thinks on Jacqui either way. I assume most casual MK players are indifferent.
Characters played statistics:

END OF JUNE/2015
1 Scorpion - 124 562 285
2 Sub-Zero - 88 481 376
3 Liu Kang - 51 933 907
4 Cassie Cage - 47 843 603
5 Takeda - 47 272 319
6 Raiden - 43 921 863
7 Johnny Cage - 43 643 036
8 Kenshi - 40 548 555
9 Jax - 37 896 542
10 Jason - 37 563 562
11 Kung Jin - 36 373 191
12 Erron Black - 36 003 356
13 Sonya - 35 101 179
14 Mileena - 34 054 570
15 Kung Lao - 33 656 928
16 Kotal Kahn - 33 190 699
17 Ermac - 32 589 016
18 D’Vorah - 29 946 170
19 Kitana - 28 875 641
20 Goro - 21 726 628
21 Jacqui Briggs - 21 008 686
22 Reptile - 20 637 899
23 Ferra/Torr - 15 941 323
24 Kano - 15 041 405
25 Shinnok - 14 981 163
26 Quan Chi - 14 711 696
27 Tanya - 9 561 363

As you can see, both the characters I have pointed out are less played than Goro, which was a pre-order bonus and wasnt unlockable through KP. I think its safe to assume thats not how the majority thinks.

Good point. I dont like Reptile or Baraka either because they are visually unappealing and they are simply boring to me, just like Jacqui.
I'm trying to state my opinion here, not facts.

She's only been around for one game. Everyone's got to start somewhere. Skarlet and Jade were pretty boring/bland in MK9, but both look amazing in MK11. I have faith in the NRS team to make Jacqui a better more improved character this go around.

That's just a snapshot in time, I'm not sure what it really proves. For that matter Kano is below her, Reptile is below her, Tanya is below her. Are those also unpopular characters?

Taking a few moments to rejoice.

FGs are about playstyle first and foremost, trying to convince someone Jacqui was not liked because people just don't care about her is one-sided. People disliked her because her move set was complete SHITE and they didn't really develop her relationship with Cassie and the Cages at all which was a huge missed opportunity.

Boon said Tanya was the least sold out one in KP, and the statics are from June, and Tanya came out after April.
Kano and Reptile was underwhelming in X.
Kitana is number 19, but thats just simply because her moveset SUCKED in MKX and no one wanted to touch her except loyal fans until SonicFox used her.

Exactly, that's why I don't think your list says that much in terms of how well liked or not a character is.

Look, nobody is going to convince anybody of anything here but you're just making stuff up, picking and choosing whatever you want.

Jacqui is 21 because nobody likes her but Kitana is 19 because her moveset sucks? You're focusing on the latter for Kitana but that could be just as much a part of the reason why Jacqui is down there too, right? And so on and so on.

Thus nullifying your entire argument.
Can't you see that I'm purposely trying to ignore you because how dumb and annoying your comments are? Don't worry though, only reason I'm here is Marlow is a cool dude and I want to talk to him about this. Otherwise, you are worthless in my eyes. Don't mistake my lack of response to not having a response.

You are missing the point. Kitana got critisized because of her dumb moveset, and people fell in love with her design in MKX, including me. While for Jacqui, it was the opposite.

I am critisizing and talking about how bland and uninteresting she is, and trying to prove that by statics, while you are trying to include her moveset. Are we on the same page here?

If we really want to include her movesets, her Full Auto moveset was pretty neat. If we include trolls, people that want to try out "not-used-much" characters, that number should've at least surpass Kitana, because Kitana's moveset is way worse than Jacqui. But it didnt. Why? Because she was simply boring both visually and lore wise. Nothing interesting about her.

Jacqui is 21 because nobody likes her but Kitana is 19 because her moveset sucks? You're focusing on the latter for Kitana but that could be just as much a part of the reason why Jacqui is down there too, right? And so on and so on.
Same thing as above. Kitana is a visually interesting character.

Since you guys really like her design, I'll leave it to you guys. Don't complain about how Fujin or Sareena is not in the game though, because Jacqui is as much as interesting as them and totally deserved that slot one of them could've taken. I honestly dont see any way out of this since you people are bent on on your opinions. Was a good talk though @Marlow , thanks for being respectful. Cheers!

EDIT: OK it seems like I have to add this one, I dont have a problem with Jacqui being in. Because the character I wanted to play as in MK11 is already confirmed (Skarlet) and I'm happy as long as I play as her. It's just really interesting that characters that have way better backstories and designs lost their chance to be in the game and instead, they added an uninteresting character that literally no one wanted (or at least not as much as wanted as Sareena or Fujin.)

That's fine, but using statistics doesn't mean as much when you're seemingly picking, choosing, and interpretting which statistics to use based on your own narrative. You're basically saying that for Jacqui, this data means one thing, but for these other characters it means something else, simply because it doesn't fit your narrative.

Just something to consider: NRS has access to all of this same usage data, if not more, and they still chose to put Jacqui in the game. They have marketing teams, I'm sure they're looking for feedback on character designs. Maybe that's a bit of an appeal to authority fallacy, but if Jacqui really was as unpopular as some people think, then I doubt they would have included her in the game. Especially since it would have been so easy not to. NRS might have good reason to believe that she's more popular than you think.

Jesus, people are sure getting triggered by my comment without even fully comprehending it. I never accused you, or anyone on TYM of "shit". I suggest reading posts thoroughly before you break out the righteous indignation. I mean, unless you want to look like you have an axe to grind.

I simply stated that i hoped they knocked her design out of the park because a lot of the hate the character receives from the MK fanbase has massive racist/misogynistic connotations, and then i provided examples when asked about same. I mean, it's hardly a shocking statement to make. Have you seen how awful the comments are during the kombat kasts?

And lastly, there were several pages of discussion at the start of this thread about the characters breast size and her "fuckablity" so let's not pretend we're some beacon of virture on here.
Like i stated in a post after that, simply disliking the character because you find her to be bland isn't what i was talking about. Her design in X was objectively bad. But disliking her because "her tits are small and she's not fuckable" is pretty misogynistic, no? Just go on twitter for two seconds and you'll see plenty of nasty comments about the colour of her skin, her hair, her black features. If you were a black girl and part of this community, don't you think reading hundreds of comments like that would make you feel pretty alienated?
This is the post i was replying to and unless i'm mistaken you were asking people to 'go on Twitter' to get 'proof' that the fanbase is racist and misogynistic hence why i told you to keep your twitter trash where it belongs. Until you show me where people have stated HERE that they don't like her because she's a Black woman i'll keep thinking your claims of racism HERE are completely garbage. And to be honest it's pretty fucking hilarious to see you asking me not to 'break out the righteous indignation' when it's pretty much the only thing you've been doing in this thread. Going up and down trying to police the way people are supposed to talk about this character. Give me a fucking break.

And once again this has absolutely nothing to do with this forum. I don't fucking care what they say on twitter or on the Kombat Kasts stream. I don't even have a Twitter account and i don't waste my time with the garbage stream monsters can come up with. I always close that shit. Only thing i know is this forum in particular is not guilty of the crap you're talking about. Cassie and Sonya get a lot of hate and 9 times outta 10 it's because people think human characters with guns and gadgets are lame and they would much prefer characters like Sindel(a female) or whatever character it is that is more mystical/magical(I would personally trade the whole Special Forces crew for Nightwolf). Mileena is one of the most requested character as well so as far as i'm concerned your claims of misogyny are not justified ON HERE. Go back to Twitter or wait for the next Kombat Kast if you want so bad to act as the thought police. It's not warranted on TYM.

And lastly, there were several pages of discussion at the start of this thread about the characters breast size and her "fuckablity" so let's not pretend we're some beacon of virture on here.
Whether or not you like it sex appeal is one the things people take into consideration when it comes to fictional characters. I've seen people on here make comments about Kano's or other male characters' body without it being an issue and since you love to bring up other parts of the internet, there's a lot of people complaining about the faces of the main characters - 3 males - in the new Devil may Cry because they think they are ugly. No shitstorm about it yet as soon as a guy says something about a woman's body he's automatically a misogynist/sexist pig. Fucking please. Furthermore, as you said yourself, those comments were made in a couple of posts in the beginning so it's not like the whole conversation about Jacqui has been revolving around her breast size.

Nobody pretends we are a beacon of virtue here. i'm just telling you that you are certainly not one either so don't go around policing people's behavior because they are not up to whatever standards you've established. Also good job on completely ignoring that another Black woman, Jade, is one of the most liked character so far. I guess it doesn't help the narrative you are trying to push so it doesn't matter

NRS makes mistakes. Raiden in Injustice 2 for example.

We haven't seen her move set though.
Really? Story trailer showed us: She's shooting and doing all the same stuff. I hope you're right and wee can see her manipulating water, wind or something like that.
:DOGE
I truly respect your taste, and I want to eat all my words, but nobody can hide a fact: She can only shoot.

They're not always right, but I feel like they normally at least have a reason for the stuff they do.

Also, was Raiden not popular in Injustice 2 or something? I may have missed that one.
