What's new

Is there anything to this game besides resets and zoning?

NRS zoning is different than Capcom zoning, it's different to get around but it's completely doable. If you're still getting zoned out by more than the small handful of characters in this game with effective zoning, then you're getting beat by beatable tactics.

The vortexes I actually kind of agree with. This game is very mix-up and vortex heavy, and that's definitely not my favorite FG element. But it is what it is, take IGAU or leave it.

Hmmm.. .

Vortex characters:
Batgirl
Batman
Green Lantern
Killer Frost
Scorpion
Zatanna
Sinestro
Lex Luthor

Yeah, I guess thats alot of vortexes in the roster.

Though as far as I know, only Batgirl's is meterless. Lex's is corner-only, with some character specific mid screen limited vortexes. Sinestro doesn't get much damage of his, and GL's is limited based on trait availability.

He get's a combo after it, so he's one of the few characters with high lows. It is pretty slow though.
Almost everyone with an overhead gets a combo off of it and he doesn't even have it as a mixup, get hit crouching and no combo, not even a tight blockstring after it.

I believe Frost also has a meterless variant, ghetto or otherwise.

Also, Zat's vortexes are straight-up bonkers.>____>

There's also Flash and deathstroke (in the corner).

She has two variants. A left/right one based on smoke and mirrors and an overhead/low one after ji2, u3, d2.

Complaints about this for Injustice?......Have you ever played any "Anime" games because your head will literally explode over the endless possibilities your opponent has while you're on defense. No one is perfect and has an impenetrable defense as a player but for the most part "anime" games force patience and good defense on it's players in order to be succesful. I know NRS games are unique in how they flow, feel and play out but fundamentals are universal and good DEFENSE is something no one seems to talk about around these parts.

Off the top of my head only Ibuki, Adon, and Dudley get combos off of their overheads, but I don't think there are that many overheads anyways so I guess you're right anyways.

When I first tried Injustice, MK9 being the only fg I've ever played, I got so pissed on the movement in this game that, well, I went and took a piss to chill out. Then realized it's another game and started practicing. That's it.

Ryu, Sakura and I believe Ken.

Overheads in SF4 of that nature are pretty shit because to combo off of them they must be standing, which means that it's not the overhead part that hits them, they gotta be caught while pressing buttons.

idk how this game is easy execution. the combos arent hard but thats only half the battle. the rest of it is dealing with the shitty ass command interpreter.

I WILL EAT THIS GAME
I play this game because I love Doomsday and Bane.
Next to Magneto, they're my two favorite villains in all the galaxies.
Therefore, they make this game, in spite of all it problems, interesting.
And when the game is made interesting, you see all the little things, all the royales with cheese of the game, much more clearly.
No matter what you're learning, the satisfaction of gaining that powerful knowledge, remains relatively the same, if not deeper.
It makes the pain that the pros deal with worth dealing with. That's why they're called the pros.
What one sees as reason for unrest and argument, another see as a hurdle to climb, with many to come after.
Doesn't mean you don't climb the hurdle.

For some, the thirst is real. For others, there are different drinks.

tl;dr: Venom. Lots of Venom.

Ryu can't combo into or after his collarbone breaker.

I'm going to sidestep the argument here and just answer the question:

Yes, there's a lot more than zoning and resets in Injustice. There are spacing games, baiting tactics, a lot of useful specials that aren't zoning-based, meter games, all kinds of crazy mechanics (see Hawkgirl in close). Not every combo ends in a reset and sometimes it's more important to keep people cornered after a knockdown, save meter, put distance between yourselves, build or activate trait, go for an interactible or achieve some other goal.

There's a lot of metagame and it's very character-dependent.

If all you can do is zone and reset people, you probably won't get very far unless you're playing brand new players.

You mean that thing only like 5 characters have? Anything that's not a 3-frame DP is safe jump bait, and if someone's good there will be an option select buffered in to limit your options even further.
Off the top of my head I can think of these characters that have shoryukens - Ryu, Evil Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Oni, Sagat, Sakura, Seth, Dudley, Dan

Add Juri to the list but only when she has Ultra 1 up.
