Well it contributes. Bane had similarities. He was smart and cunning like Bane. He broke the Bat. He was strong. He even had the mexican accent in some scenes.
I suppose that it's different as well in that Godzilla was the title character. If Bane had been the title character, although I would not have had a problem with him, I could see why people could be so displeased.
Yeah ok, I understand where you're coming from better. Having paid to see Godzilla and then seeing something that wasn't him isn't really the same as paying to see Batman, getting someone like Batman but also seeing Bane who is different.
I was thinking of cases where a character is changed and being hated on, sometimes even before the movie/game/comic/whatever is released. Like people that hate the DmC reboot because Dante was changed, even some that haven't played it. It tends to make creators wary of change so they end up sticking to the old tried and true subject matter we've seen time and again instead of encouraging them to branch out to new things. Even if they can return to the old version of the character later. Especially with characters as old as Batman and Godzilla I can see it getting stale.
But it sounds like this isn't the same case. You'll have to forgive my ignorance of the subject, not a big monster movie fan.
