For what it's worth, I always appreciated your coverage. I love KI man, it's such a great game. I honestly think it has honed my FG skills a bit, specifically my defense.By which I mean, there was hardly any input on the posts I made for tournament results be it online or offline, as well as the weekly textual streams released at the Ultra Combo forums. Sometimes the input fluctuated with new characters and sometimes it didn't.
And then of course, along came the typical bashing. "This game isn't as good as *insert game title here,*" or "It should be on *insert console name here*," and so on.
TYM may have been founded on the basis of supporting NRS titles, but I think we could gain so much from not disallowing others to venture outside of their boundaries in regards to the games they play. Sadly, almost no-one was on board. *shrugs*
I'll stop so as not to derail the thread. With MKX coming, it'll quickly overtake all other supported titles here and that is understandable. I'm hype for it myself.
They haven't talked sales, but they do say that KI is doing well. At Final Round there were 66 entrants, and of those some of the "regulars" didn't come, but other new faces did.How well is KI selling? Like the passes and all
Looks cool for KI fans
I don't think he was blaming anyone, just making a point, but for you to "blame" MS for people on TYM (you) choosing not to play KI is kind of dumb. Either you like the game or not. KI is quality, but if you are a PS4 fan at the end of the day and don't want to try the game, that is your prerogative.Well, blame Microsoft for that one, not TYM.
Don't get me wrong. It's a great thing that IG keeps up with their players and events, but I feel it promotes, "this is good enough." Which, no offense, is exactly what you're saying right now, lol. The environment of a tournament alone can change the way you play given the noise, nerves, having someone sitting right next to you, etc. That will never fully be replaced, even with godlike net play. Personally, I want a challenge like that. Staying at home makes it easier on yourself and will limit the level of players you face. Just my $.2.I actually don't think this is such a bad thing. My job makes me travel a lot to foreign countries, and I find tournament people to be largely... Unbathed lol (slightly kidding here). Being able to enjoy this game online with nigh zero lag is a dream come true after the torture of MK9. If MKX has great net play, I don't have to waste my money/time on any tournament expenses
I agree with your sentiment. I just play games I like. Since there are games I like on both Xbox and playstation I have both. And Wii for when people come over for drinksThey haven't talked sales, but they do say that KI is doing well. I don't want to turn this into a console war thread or anything as you should really just support what games and systems you like, but if you like FGs, I think it is worth it to play/support what you can, and not bash / shame one game or another based on personal preferences that you have, which ultimately don't really have anything to do with said game.
It has GREATLY improved my play in fighting games. From wake up logic to footsies to spacing to truly understanding how to truly maneuver in back to block games, it has helped me a ton. Especially with the replay system and hitbox display. For what it's worth, I always appreciated your coverage. I love KI man, it's such a great game. Yeah, I mean I agree with what you are saying, but my personal view is that tournaments aren't really all that exciting to me. I've a mortgage and a career to maintain, so allocating time for a digital comic-con isn't where I want to put my resources. But I still enjoy the game and the competitive nature it brings, so having online is an outlet for me. I would argue (based on tournament numbers relative to sales) that having a genuine venue to get good at a game (ie online) can do nothing but spark interest in these events.Don't get me wrong. How about dat Dojo? That alone can improve someones understanding of fighting games. I've never seen anything like it in another fighting game. It flat out teaches you REAL combos, how to anti air, play defense, basically everything really well. Because of that I've seen way more people anti airing and playing at a very basic level of fundamentals more so than any other game online. It was smart. It has GREATLY improved my play in fighting games. From wake up logic to footsies to spacing to truly understanding how to truly maneuver in back to block games, it has helped me a ton. I found street fighter made a lot more sense and I could recognize situations easier after training KI off and on for a year. My movement in all fighting games improved as well.
Yeah but if there is no lag, shazzy won't have any lag advantage on his characters anymoreMaybe having great online is a bad thing for it offline
If MKX has KI online "goodness" you'll have guys like shazzyaam never leaving the house calling KOHs his Evo
I'm very much pro online@RM JagoBlake The point really was that having it locked to a single, brand-new console was pretty much instantly killing its hope of a real competitive community. You can't blame TYM or its members for a game being hilariously inaccessible.
@Pig Of The Hut To be honest, a game having a good online experience seems to prove exactly the opposite of what you assert. The largest and most valuable e-sports games in the world are ones that have very robust online; people are expected to get good there before they ever even have a hope of competing in events. They even sometimes play legitimate, serious tournament matches there, especially for FPS. Fighters are alone in simply leveling the expectation that you must be offline to even begin to be taken seriously.
Well, there is nothing to debate about here. You like what you like and it's not my duty to convince you to prove yourself to such a point you need to travel and enter tournaments. If that's not what you want, well that's not what you want. I do agree about online possibly bringing more exposure to tournaments.....as long as the developers advertise it on the game menu or something....like KI, but minus the online ones lol.Yeah, I mean I agree with what you are saying, but my personal view is that tournaments aren't really all that exciting to me. I guess my point is that I don't enjoy waiting in lines to ride a roller coaster, so it stands to reason I don't want to sit and wait my turn to play a good match in a tournament. It's just my preference I suppose.
But more to your point, I really enjoy watching tournaments. I hope to see you play some soonWell, there is nothing to debate about here. There is actually a pretty good possibility that KI will come to the PC in the coming year or so (at least that is the hope), so accessibility should open up over time if that is indeed the case. That being said, again, he wasn't blaming anyone for anything, the "blame game" started with the comment in response to Blake's.@RM JagoBlake The point really was that having it locked to a single, brand-new console was pretty much instantly killing its hope of a real competitive community.
