Injustice will be a disapointment if they handle the patching the same way as they did in MK 9.

Okay, it shouldn't come as a surprise that there are already infinites in the game. Developers are not all knowing Gods, they cant predict how the rules can be bent in games till it's been revealed. They just need to make more THOROUGH patches when dealing with this game.

Cause the patches in MK 9 were too soon, too rushed with no thought. Cause there are characters in MK 9 that still have infinities and that will still never be changed. I mean if Batman has 150% combos, that needs to be addressed. But at the same time dont suddenly think "Hmm, Joker, Catwoman and Grundy....you know lets just let nerf them for NO REASON", ala Jade, Kano and Sindel.
The patching with MK9 was probably my biggest gripe with the entire game. When you waste all your patches within the first 6 months, and then leave the game with no developer support until everyone gets fed up with the broken mess it eventually becomes, you're doing it wrong.

To be fair they didn't have a lot of experience and I feel like they wanted to appease the masses.

They'll (hopefully) have learned a valuable lesson.

That's definitely the issue behind it. Despite how much they tried their hardest, it was still easy to see they were still pretty new to it all and were still trying to figure things out.

I hope it's one of those things that gets better with time.

Like the netcode, even though we've seen how it's been for years now.

The problems listed are less a problem with NRS and more a problem with fighting game developers in general: SFIV has a Chun-li infinite and "unblockables", Marvel has infinites and glitches (some were patched out, others weren't), Persona 4 had a Yukiko unblockable setup that was practically inescapable, TTT2 had an infinite or two, it goes on.

It happens.

Edit:

They figured that out literally 2 minutes later.
The only problems the TTT2 console release initially had, mostly had to do with the DLC characters (Kunimitsu ducking mids, Ancient Ogre's wall infinite with the infinite kicks, Bryan/Hwoarang dynamite heel TA! combo in the arcade version, Some glitch with Sebastian and that's about it)

Not related to this topic or MK, but Harada did pretty much everything he could do right with TTT2 and it really paid off.

NRS needs to establish a legacy with their games. Instead of rushing out a "from-scratch" made POS game every two years to cash out on old fans, they need to take an existing game and take what's good about it and try to weed out all the broken BS. It doesn't matter if they rip off different mechanics from other fighters if they make for a fun and balanced game.

I got an email today from my friend who's been playing MK since the very beginning, some of you might recognize him, he brings up a lot of good points and I thought I'd share it.

After 20 years of fighting game making, Boon & Co. still can't get it right (infinite discovered in new game just days before release!). It's been pointed out that they have never done what other fighting game developers have done, which is to work on the game they created to improve it, making an effort to take their creation and make it into a solid fighting game--something that would garner community support (i.e., people want the game because they know the developers care, and that it's worth having since caring developers have invested themselves into it on every level).
MK Deception was the first online game and was heartily embraced by existing fans as well as new ones. Though not perfect, it had a lot to offer and is still arguably one the best MK games ever made. However, at the time they didn’t have the ability to fix it via hot patches, and it was riddled with things like infinites, OTGs, and Bo Rai Cho’s f3 in weapon (ridiculous reach and free throw with OTG and/or 50/50 set up making him top tier across the entire roster because of it).
In the era of MK9, with a reintroduction to 2D fighting and the ability to patch, the developers had a chance to take a well-designed fighting game and work with it until it was rid of major glitches and better balanced. Instead, they went to work on a completely different game! Which brings me to my next point.
Every time Boon & Co. make a new game they change the dynamics so much that--instead of fixing broken aspects of previous games--we are introduced to new glitches and imbalances. They've done it again with Injustice, and they'll most likely do it again with MK10.
The question is: why?
Mortal Kombat has an interesting universe of characters, with an equally interesting storyline. Unfortunately for us, the fans, it is in the wrong hands. Imagine what the franchise would be like if it were in the hands of a team like the one behind Street Fighter, with genuine effort, care and concern.
The solution?
Find another fighting game. Play MK too if you like, but don't give it (and certainly not the latest P.O.S. Injustice) the time it doesn't deserve. Put what little time you have left in a day into a fighting game that is worth investing that time into.
Time to find a new fighting game.

.
Lol you really think Mk games are the only ones that have infinits? Bugs? Broken chars? Have you seriously not seen all the junk in other games on release?

Though i don't see reason to call them retards, frees or idiots, i also don't agree with most of the points shared on the Opening Post, but still, i respect their opinion.

And fore most, i will not stop playing MK9 just because Injustice is out, i play MK because i like it, and always liked.
The 3D versions didn't were good enough IMO, so i will keep playing MK9, until they make another MK better than MK9

Same happened to Trilogy, no one did stopped playing UMK3 and MK Trilogy because Deadly Alliance Deception or Armaggedon were introduced, on the contrary, ppl always returned to UMK3 and MK Trilogy to play after some time. MK9 is the best MK version ever made.

I thought part of being a great player at fighting games was overcoming one sided battles and finding ways around your characters weakness. That includes finding ways around unbalanced/broken bosses, moves, specials, characters, etc, yes even ones the developers might have made by mistake.

Like if there is a 150% combo chain a character can do then yeah that's a problem that needs to be patched but when it's just you're in an unfair fight doesn't mean it's something that needs to be patched it means there's always a bigger fish, no one character is 100% unbeatable, that's part of the balance, finding out a characters strength or weakness and exploiting it. Unfair? Most fights are.

Taken from the same thread on a different website, my response to this thread:

heres the thing,

Making games is a business, and you need to make games that make money. WB has alotta shit tied up in DC and I read that when they bought "NRS" Midway and the MK name they contracted them to do a new MK and then another fighter. They wanted to create a Brand new IP

I'm happy they did this, I don't want a different "version" of the same game every year, Ala SF4, which is on what fuckin version 9?? lol.

YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE MK COMMUNITY IS AT MOST 1000 people (that are actually hard core gamers)

NRS did there best to make the best competitive 2d game they could make at the time. Do you really think they just sit around and laugh at the hardcore gamers because there is some broke shit??

They sold millions of copys of the game and this makes WB happy, now WB wants more money.

Now they have spent 2 years on a new game trying to add everything that us Whiney ass competitve gamers asked for.

The fact that we get another brand new AAA fighting game that a developer was able to sink money into is fucking awesome, the amount of rehashed crap out there right now is retarded.

And if you seriously think that they are not going to make MK10 and do there absolute best to make it the best they can, then your just pissy because your a dick.

I'm ranting here but I'm sick of people being pissed off about injustice. DON"T PLAY THE FUCKING GAME IF YOU DON"T WANT TO!!!

Last time I checked MK9 is at fucking EVO and is not dead yet. Yes it's got some dumb shit in it, but you name me just 1 fucking fighting game that doesn't. And if you say StreetFighter I will laugh at you.

Sometimes the dumb shit is the funnest shit, and pushes the meta game to new levels, think MVC2.

Bottom line, it's a buisness, and buisnesses need to make money. This game will make money and in turn allow them to have more of it and time to develop MK10, which is a good thing. If you don't wanna play injustice, or you hate MK9 and NRS cause you think they are out to fuck you, then here is a site for you. http://shoryuken.com/ capcom only wants a shit load of your money for DLC that is already on disc and a shit load of costume packs that will cost you 100bucks. or they could release a game and charge you 60 bucks, then release the same game a year later with Ultimate on the front and charge you 50 bucks. Maybe do that a few times, (SF4/SS4/SS4AE)

GTFO here with this NRS hate,

Your on the wrong site if you hate them

Rant done,

Potato out

"His" comparison is dumb beyond belief. Capcom re-releases it's fighting games when they patch with entirely new editions, charing for ludicrous amount of money to get like 2-3 new characters and a lot of patch notes. They also fuck up a lot with their games as well (anyone remember Vanilla Sagat? Phoenix? etc.).

Sure they patch, but so did MK. Not every game patches stuff every week. Your friend needs to think that to patch something for free still takes time and money, developers need to be paid to do it, yet the company will usually get NOTHING in return, so patching is like charity for the goodwill of the community. Remember too, that NRS is part of Warner Bros. Entertainment, that's a huge company built to make money. They don't really consider throwing cash at fools (especially fools who bash their product before release) a wise business move so why would the sponsor NRS to make more patches when some idiots go around saying "don't play Injustice because of this this and this, and I can make that statement before launch."

What NRS does, is they listen to fans input and do test a lot of their stuff. Sure, Cyrax and Smoke are still broken, but those things have been there from the development process onward and just have to do with the fundamental mechanics behind each character. Call it, growing pains.

It also seems like your "friend" just wanted to rant for the sake of rant. If he has been listening to NRS, they've introduced flash-patching this time around. That means they can patch the game whenever they want, without waiting for MS or Sony lengthy (in terms of digital distribution time) approval processes. Sounds to me like that's dedication to the game and the fans.

As "his" final point of "just stop playing it because they don't patch it," the reason Capcom and Namco games get more patches than other fighting games and overall longer life cycles is because they are so popular in the FGC, a lot of people play them and they have a huge fanbase. It also brings lots of attention for the company through events like EVO and now (in case of Namco, MLG). That's why they have a vested interest in patching and keeping the game alive.

So if "your friend" really considered what he said, and he really wanted NRS support for longer, A. "he" wouldn't send you that retarded email, and B. "he" would want more people to play the game so it makes sense for devs to keep patching it.

Alright, real talk...their are some dudes who will never like what NRS do just because of this age of fanboyism. They will only like it if others of their same type flock to it. I am not going to judge an entire company because broken shit was found, and let's not pretend this doesn't happen with other games.

I play every fighter and find it sad people still dig to hate on things.

Title updates (the "day 1 patch") takes weeks to get certified by Microsoft and Sony.

Infinite is found in unpatched game, title update hits the next day. People say its because some pirate made a video that it got patched?

So dumb.

WB decided their best approach to do good business is to put most of the effort into the casual crowd. This means more money spent on cinematics, minigames, or the next game even, instead of spending it to fix things and submit patch after patch to Sony and Microsoft. Since they are making their second game already, so far this method seems to be working for them. If people had a problem with it they would be voting with their feet, but even the "hardcore" players don't mind it that much to actually go play something else instead.
MK has always been for the casual crowd. It has 0 to do with Warner Bros. All of the "big name fighting games" make the majority of their money from casual players, and MK has its beginnings with an uppercut and dream.

The main issue with MK9 was requiring patches at all, for balance -- and now that the patchless tweaking system is greatly expanded, that should render that point mostly moot.

You can't honestly review all the mechanics in Injustice and conclude that the game is merely a low-level money grab. Typical players will probably not even use half the features in the game. Even advanced players are still getting used to using the full toolset.

It sucks to have to be mean, but this guy and his friend are both idiots.
I wouldn't go that far -- Seven is a good player and he has valid points. It's just that the criticism is unbalanced and doesn't really reflect the amount of love that NRS is putting into their work for the community.

If he'd rather have an iterated MK9 than Injustice, that's his personal preference and I don't see anything wrong with that. But the rest of us are going to have a blast with Injustice :)
