Earthquake?

I was on the interwebs. Thought a plane was flying low, then I thought somebody hit my house, then I thought a plane landed in my neighborhood. Once I made it outside I knew it was a earthquake. Then I went to Chipotle.
I'm out in Waldorf, MD

West Coast is mostly sand based ground at lower levels, the East Coast is solid bedrock. So it's the difference between getting hit with a 50mph tennis ball and a 50mph billiard ball. The East Coast hits harder. The West also has mountains that contain them withing an area, not so in the East so it's free to run.
Not sure we get hit harder. Mountains don't contain the quake, fault lines (breaks in the plate) stop the ripple effect. We don't have many fault lines in the East, so the quakes ripples travel really far (but lose power over distance).

Its funny to me the West is making of the of East over this. We're the dumb ones b/c we didn't build our cities on top of active fault lines? :wut: :)
