Damn son, I tried to read this thread but I just couldnt.
In my continuing (and probably never ending) quest to choose a character in Injustice I've moved on to the grapplers, mostly because at the moment I think being able to combo into a command throw in Injustice is the best thing ever. Currently how they are in my head is:
- Solomon Grundy, a pure grappler, a slow hard hitting tank able to pressure his opponent with 'grab fear'.
- Bane, more a brawler with a command throw, doesn't have the 'grab fear' of Grundy but with the super armour given by venom can plough through things and threaten that way.
- Shazzam, has a sort of grapple mix-up with his high or low throws, less hard hitting but with more mobility.
- Lobo, not sure if he counts really as his command throw seems really situational outside of combos.
I'm curious if people see them similarly or if I'm off the mark with them. I've mostly been playing Bane as I like how his super armour lets you play more aggressively compared to Grundy's more patient game.
Grundy is a pure grappler yes, his entire game revolves around landing his trait. He has many strings that cancel into his trait on block that will grab them through the block, and if they decide to jump the trait(the best way to get out of his grapple gamez)he has two different grabs that allow him to play the guessing game and still grab for a combo. While he does have normals, 70% of his damage comes from grabs. All his set ups come from grabs. Also grundy is not a patient, he just has the ability to be patient because people will walk into WC all day for some reason. Against good players you have to be madly aggressive and WCC bunches to keep pressure.
Bane is a rushdown armor character. He has a command grab that just happens to be his most damaging combo ender, and he has an alright anti air grab that changes depending on the opponents position when they are grabbed. His command grab is a big part of his game, but this should not take away from the fact that he is entirely based around his armor. One might say that having a command grab, and anti air grab, and a super that is a grab makes him a grappler. I feel his entire game revolves around fear of armor and double punch bullying, only once that is established can you open up the road to grabs. This makes him sit on top of kids and slam meaty fist into every kid who thought they could wake up attack to stop pressure. [This is the easiest big body character to play with imo once you learn to manage venom]
Shazam is another bonafied grappler. Achilles clutch, atlas torpedo, the command grab with the bdf motion(cant remember the moves name)are all most definitely grapples(the torpedo moreso when meter burned). He is the mobile grappler, the best grappler, and the injustice hidden killa all in one. He has great setups with both the dbf command grab and achillies clutch, and he has a reset like grundy. He get a hard knockdown then plays games with you, deciding weather to cross you up for the reset or play guess where hes blocking to catch you in a meaty wake up command grab. Also shazam can hit hard..very very hard.
I dont play lobo so I have no input on him. Tried him once at a friends and though he has some kool stuff but I dont think the highest level lobo could beat the highest level bane or grundy any day ever so I was like naaaaaaaaah. Bane and grundy both felt great to me instantly(not to mention I literally came when I found out bane could walk right through projectiles and take big steaming shits on zoners..and he dont need meter? This guys supposed to be low tier?).
