Hey guys, with the release of Injustice 2 coming up I figured now would be a good time to make Beetle's general discussion thread.

The third Blue Beetle is Jaime Reyes, a teenager who discovered that the original Blue Beetle scarab morphed into a battle suit allowing him to fight crime and travel in space. Over the years Reyes became a member of the Teen Titans.

Played him exclusively in the beta (only had it for about a week or two) and I don't know what it is, but the character felt very limited. Shield bash wake up was great. Hard to punish but death on whiff. However, being no practice mode, never really got a chance to master his floating ability. I can see that helping him out a lot in the game though if used properly.

Also, couldn't find much use for his trait but it's use might be MU specific. Watched a video of SonicFox using the character too and even he seemed to be having trouble. Overall, fun character though. I'm sure much with him will have changed from the beta till now. I doubt I'll use him at all, but I'm looking forward to testing him a bit more when I can actually get some real practice in.

I'm looking forward to playing as him! He's one of my favorite characters and I wanted him since the first game (even made a DLC thread for him). In my view he probably has the best gear and shaders in the game! Legendary Golden Beetle is a thing of beauty!!!

You're certainly not the only one that felt that way. The core problems I felt with him were that his stagger game, advancing mids were weak. It's weird seeing Blue Beetle's advancing mid string be full combo punishable when Superman's is significantly faster, cancellable at multiple points AND safe. Trait activation was pretty long considering it removes his projectile and gives him range, you would think a stance change trait would be more quick and forgiving.

I suspect he'll have a safe Forward 2, 3 with legit stagger options on release, quicker trait activation/recovery and maybe slightly better recovery on his diagonal air projectile(Cyborg seems to have this in more recent builds while also being able to cover more parts of the screen with his fireballs). Safety, recovery and damage seemed to be the biggest complaints people gave.

I feel like he just overall wasn't finished and he seems like a character you absolutely need practice mode for him. You can learn stuff on the fly, but refining things just really didn't feel feasible.

He does have some great strengths though too, he just feels incomplete. His ground projectile is great, back 1 is a really good, safe mid that is only minus one and shield bash is great in concert with back 1 it creates immense pushback that makes it even safer.

His overhead string (back 2, 3) also seems like it has the makings of a great corner escape string and it crosses up so he can mix in shield bash, projectile and low to mess with you. Beetle also has great jump normals and great anti-air so he has the makings of a solid character, he just needs some fine tuning, which I'm sure he got.


There's also this video I saw online where he has a new mid match win pose from the beta and it kind of looks like the projectile could hit mid, but the way Deadshot blocks it looks weird so it's up in there air.

Starts at 5:30 and at 10:06 it kind of looks like the projectile could hit mid??

His gear looks great overall, I love the gold and blueish hues on him, but I'm also hoping for gear he gets some unmasked looks he has had over time like this one or his mohawk one from the Teen Titans:


I don't have any intention of using him, but a Ted Kord premier skin would be nice for the people who were fans of one of his older incarnations.

Yes I'm hoping the Ted Kord skin is a thing. Not for myself personally, but I know a lot oof fans would appreciate that, and a Ronnie Raymond skin.

As far as Beetle as a character, I think he's quite slept on at the moment. HoneyBee seemed to be figuring him out towards the end of the Beta, but other players weren't doing as well. The damage wasn't final in the Beta, so this isn't the time to worry about his output in that respect. The stance switch, from what I could see, changed the game for him completely, in regards to what he could punish, and at what range.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned, is Beetle has an OTG Mb fireball, that launches for a combo. If that remains intact, it could be the key to his more damaging options.

I'm quite interested to see who mains him after release. I suspect he may be a much bigger contender than we're giving him credit for. Supergitl was the hype character, and she didn't have tons of damage either.

But the Beta was the Beta, and everything can easily change.

One of the characters I'll play, along with Aquaman and Firestorm. I love his design and personality, and his playstyle is reminiscent of Cinder so.

Seems like it's just hitting Deadshot in the transition to crouch block, I reckon it's still a high.
Yeah, I'm not doubting that by any means. I'm just more or less trying to spur discussion as I am super curious and a bit antsy to see what has changed with him from beta to release. I really enjoyed playing him in the beta, but I feel like that made me more impatient than I was when I knew nothing if that makes any sense lol.

I don't feel like you can sleep on a beta character. There's too little knowledge floating around. I also feel like everyone that voiced some concerns here felt that he is a character that needs lab time and diligence to put into action properly.

Initial impressions, we don't have anything else to really talk about right now besides what we observed in the beta. I don't feel like anybody is "worried" about damage or any of this stuff as I made it pretty clear that he isn't/wasn't finished and a lot will more than likely be different.

I just wanna talk about him because its been pretty quiet here up until recently.

@Espio: I agree. There hasn't been a lot of talk about Beetle, but I find that just makes him more intriguing. I don't know how far I'll get with him in the lab, but his trait interests me , and I wonder if the key to him is knowing when to use it.

Before SFV came out I was interested in Vega, who has something similar, Essentially, he had more normals than the rest of the cast and I might find a lot of value in that, in a game with only 3 normal attack buttons. What you said about the startup is concerning, and his fireball seemed really good, but I doubt you can play him correctly without settling up trait & taking advantage of it.

That's how I'm thinking about it now. After the game's release I'll be watching his appearances closely.

I don't think a Ted Kord premier skin would work or make any sense. Ted never had any access to the scarab and was more of gadget character with no real power set. Dan Garrett on the other hand would make some sense since he had some access to the scarab, though not to the extent Jaime does.

Honestly the reason Jaime became so popular was because he was so different from his predecessors. Literally the only thing he truly has in common with Ted and Dan is the Blue Beetle name.

On a completely unreleated side note my vote goes to Armani Salado for a live action interpretation of the character for either the DCEU, CW or that Live action Titans series. Armani Salado for Blue Beetle! Lol

I'm very interested in beetle. His play style looks fun as heck, and from my one quick session with the beta he felt great. I assume they'll fix trait frames and his fireball game is going to interact with roll better then most seem to realize. That air mobility is too strong a tool to be overlooked as well.

Plus I'm posting to keep informed. GGs to the BB crew.

I would also love an airdash along side his jetpack so he would completely dominate the air but hey we can't get everything in life.

Air dash would be good but the jetpack is nuts so I'm cool with it. Float shenanigans will win so many early matches. And still be really helpful against the Fates, Firestorms (like me) and Darkseids of the world.

I agree with D1 and 33. F23 being safe would be great but I don't expect it, he might not need it. 111 isues are a must fix imo.

I don't understand what do you mean "toggle them off"? Like swap stances? What move is df1 or db1?

Those are the low and high stab special moves

Yes, you get to switch stances for free, just hit the trait button at a certain time during each animation and you end it with the stance switch, no extra frames.

Well the frame data is probably all gonna change, but here goes

33 is -9 on block
d1 is +13/-4 on h/b
Air fireball has 26 recovery frames
f23 is -14 on block
111 still has a tiny range for whiffing issues, yes
