Bay Area MKX Scene?

Hey guys!

It's looking like a venue for Mortal Kombat in San Francisco is becoming a reality! I've talked with the proprietor of Barcade. He's interested in having us run MK tournaments there. The days we're looking at are Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday, most likely in the evenings (especially if it's during the week). We've discussed having the tournament as a possible weekly there. Streaming is possible as they have wifi, but looking if we could get a wired connection. They have not only a an 85" TV one of their walls for customers but a huge dropdown screen where consoles can be plugged into for everyone's viewing pleasure behind the bar. What date the tournaments start is still up in the air, and may start a week after release, depending on logistics.

Unfortunately, since they will be serving alcohol there, it will be a 21 and over event. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Please understand that details are still being worked out as I'm still in talks with the proprietor. With that, community input is important. Which of the days mentioned above work best? What times are good for you guys? How many are interested?

Any and all questions and feedback are welcome!

Also, if you'd like to help out with the organizing side of things or have other talents that'll make this tournament a success, please let me know in this thread.

It's about time that Mortal Kombat have its own scene in NorCal and I'm determined to make that a reality! Let's do this together!

@HugeMcBigLarge and I are 100% down to help organize, stream, commentate, and anything else needed to make a viable tournament scene out here. Besides having a weekly venue to attend and run, we would be open to hosting sessions at our place to ensure that some of the younger guys have a place to play and also opening up a second day to level up.

@Jack Burton Can you also post a link to the venue? Just to clarify where it is. And thank you for finding this place.

Since jack seems to be busy I'll anwser for him. While he said barcade he actually meant Brewcade. 2200 Market Street in San Francisco (#102). It's a few blocks away from the 16th st. and mission bart station.

@smile thanks for the response. Thats what i thought he meant. Thats perfect for us. We live near 24th and Noe so we're pretty close to Bart as well.

Yes, I meant Brewcade lol! Sorry for the confusion. I'll definitely need a stream put together and a few other things. I plan on meeting with the proprietor on my next day off. @Folux182 we should meet up soon. If you can help organize then I'd like to discuss a few things before I meet with Brewcade.

Guys, can I type brutality as "brewtality". This is very important (not really)
On a serious note: @Jack Burton What are our options for starting times? Since bart ends around midnight, we kind of have an end time. Also, is there a venue fee?

We're currently looking to having it on Wednesday and Thursday 8pm - 2am time slot (although I'd try to get it over by midnight), and Sunday any time during the day.

Venue fee is still in discussion to be $10. $5 for the venue and $5 for the community.

Keep in mind things are still being worked out and are subject to change.

And Brewtality is awesome ;)

Having it three days a week might be overkill, especially if it would cost $10 every time. I don't know how others feel, but I'd rather just pay $5 for the venue. What we need for the community is for people to show up. Not coming cause they're broke doesn't help anyone.

Those are the available days. We would chose among those best day of the week for everyone to show up. So the tourney would only be once a week or every two weeks based on the feedback we receive.

Ten dollars for a tourney is a standard fee and how it's split between the venue and the rest, which usually goes to the prize pot, is typical.

Ten dollars is standard for a tourney, but this isn't a tourney. It's a level up session. We can have a tourney as a part of that, but I don't think there should be a prize pot (aka woundcowboy's lunch money). I would rather have a points system like what GGA does. I don't want to hear about people not attending our event because they're "just giving away their money to better players." If I'm in the minority I'd be okay with it though. Just might not be willing to go quite as often.

Great minds think alike! What you're thinking is exactly what I'm trying to set up. One of the GGA guys wrote an article on TYM about building communities and I'm gonna use their advice for building the scene here so we can have a scene that's sustainable and grow as big as possible.

Don't worry, I got you and the community covered ;)
