Lost in a labyrinth of egoism
What the fuck does it matter if its a service or if its a box? What matters to me... is prices... rights and gaming. I have no idea what any of what you are saying means in the real world. Probably nothing. Why is it an advantage to sell a service? Does it help me that I can't trade in used games? Does it help me that I have to be forced to connect?
It matters to the people who produce the games you enjoy. The old system of production and marketing is becoming less and less profitable, as games that are a service continue to be more profitable and less inherently risky.
Forcing you to connect helps people who make games, and it allows them to make better games that are more profitable. They use the metrics they gather to determine everything from difficulty levels to most used characters. If they can assume internet connection, they can open up the design to blur the lines between single and multiplayer systems, allowing for more creative expansion of existing genres.
I guess the question is, do you understand that benefiting game creators also benefits the game consumer?
