Non-sucky Horror films

Jacob`s Ladder isn`t a David Lynch film. It was directed by Adrian Lyne, and I don`t remember the writer`s name but Lynch wasn`t involved. Fun fact about both though... Jacob`s Ladder and Lynch`s "Twin Peaks" were huge influences on the original game Silent Hill when it came out in 1999. As was Stephen King`s novela "The Mist". And in the game on the map you will find Lyne Street and King Street, and in Silent Hill 4 there is a Lynch Street. The subway level in Silent Hill 3 is modeled exactly after the subway from the beginning of Jacob`s Ladder, where the main character exits on Bergen Street, and that`s where Heather lives in SH3. The main character of SH2, James Sunderland, is wearing the same army jacket as Tim Robbins in Jacob`s Ladder as well.

Anyway, I can`t recommend a horror movie higher than the original Swedish "Let The Right One In", with a second place going to "Martyrs" from France. Both films, in their original language with subtitles, or they are ruined.

I never knew that about Silent Hill, then again I never watched jacob's Ladder looks like Movie night tonight.

If you're a fan on SH, you'll love Jacob's Ladder. You'll see so many influences in it, it blew me away. Also, SH-ish movies are also The Machinist and The Mist (stephen king novela turned into movie).

Can't get into Saw at least the sequels, Signs was descent, but everything else that guy made I just can't stand its always either too dry or it just makes no sense.

The very 1st Friday the 13th was good, Halloween 1 and 2, since we are talking Carpenter The Thing today its still a great film.
Though is more action and sci/fi Predator was a great and unique movie for its time and when seeing for the first time and not knowing what its about or even know what the creature is it starts off being like any other Arnie film and then gets creepy and eerie

I thought Tomie was terrible. It wasn't particularly frightening and the execution was a total mess.

You should definitely see Martyrs. All the best extreme horror is coming out of France nowadays.

Stephen King's IT, The old Evil Deads, The Puppet Master 1/2/3, Creep Show, Hellraiser 1/2, Nightmare on Elm streets, (3 being my personal favorite ) The old Night of the Living Dead movies that were black and white, Demonic Toys, Critters, and Phantasm.

I haven't really seen any Asian horror films, but I am more than willing to check some out.

I haven't seen it. Gonna have to check it out for sure haha. I love puppet master man. Blade and the girl who vomits leeches all over people are my favorite. I really like the theme song for it too.

"The Host" is Korean, as is Park Chan-wook's "Thirst", which is worth watching.

Yeah, for the OP, if you like Lovecraft, I also recommend In the Mouth of Madness as the best Lovecraft movie, even if not a direct adaptation. There is also a short B&W movie version of Call of Cthulhu which is worth watching made in the last few years by a Lovecraft society. Another John Carpenter movie worth catching is Prince of Darkness.

Dario Argento is good and violent. Suspiria, Creepers, the one with the decapitating murderer.... There's an old movie, Dead and Buried, for those who like that sort of thing. Foreign movies are good for gore, if anyone likes Argento then Lucio Fulci was up that alley somewhat.

For Stephen King adaptations, of course Shining is outstanding, Silver Bullet is underrated, Christine, Cujo, Sometimes They Come Back, I think a few of those are worth watching, particularly It. "It" was a made for TV movie, but it still holds up for me.

people say Martyrs is the best "gory" film, but i just thought it was okay tbh. Frontier(s) and Inside are the better French films in that respect imo.

Is there anything good this year or upcoming other than the Evil Dead remake? I saw Dark Skies which was alright but idk other than that.
