Practicing - Very Hard AI or Online?

Hey guys,

I'm new to Injustice and fighters in general and have played for a little over a week. Aside from the large amount of time i spend in practice, i've been playing online, against human players. Last night I tried out single fight vs hard ai, and i won by a close margin and vs very hard ai it was a bigger challenge than ive ever faced online.

Do very hard AI play in a way in which i'd be getting good practice? I'd still like to play online a) because its fun to play vs other humans.. and b) id never get used to the delay if i didn't.

but very hard AI seemed like incredibly good practice! Is this true? There are bad habits I developed online that didnt work vs very hard ai and it really made me block more and pay attention to high/lows more playing against the AI.

The AI in Injustice is unique in that they play similar to a human opponent and they're not mindless drones that are terrible, like MK9 and other fighters AI. So you can definitely learn a lot from the AI.

That said, as long as you're not playing people out of state or across the country, the online in Injustice is pretty good. There's really no substitute for playing against a human opponent. The AI reacts to inputs, so no matter hard it tries, it can never be like a human. And you can't play mind games and have much strategy against the AI like you can against a human opponent.

very hard AI is good to kind of sit back and play defense against and practice punishments and reaction time. It's not very good for reading your opponents habbits and doean't play like a human would at all. It reads your inputs and reacts... Which is why its good to play defense against. On the other end most people online don't play at a tourney level and don't provide accurate representation of their characters tools, so while you can get a feel for human habits and tendencies, your not necessarily preparing for their chars at a competent level.

In short. They're both bad, but you can learn things from each. Take them both with a grain of salt.

Find solid players on here and invite them to run sets with you online. Thats the best way to train without an offline scene imo.

Wish I had an offline scene here in NH :( but yeah I think youre right, if i find good east coast players on here that i get 3 bars to then that practice is pretty good. That can be pretty rare though :\

NYC seems to have a huge offline scene - i'm moving there for the summer with my sis so perhaps ill find some good offline practice then.

Thanks guys.

i think i'll do some very hard AI practice for a bit though, just because since im so new it really makes me work on a lot, particularly blocking and not just vulnerably spamming the same shit. I play KF and a lot of the time online its just me being the aggressor the entire time - i never get punished or anything if they block a slide, etc.

Yeah New York has one of the best scenes in the whole community.

As for you not getting punished for slide on block. It's not punishable by any normal on block. They have to read it and armor b3/f3/ jump back attack you for it. And most players online don't know how to make reads like that.

well what i meant was i never block if they block the slide - I just keep doing stuff online and dont get punished for it.

vs ai if they block and i just keep doing stuff, i getbeat up :p

I personally approve of the very hard AI, as long as you don't find an exploit and win with it. It can really teach how to play safe with rush down and zoning. You will catch on on string gaps and other punishable tricks faster than 3 years of MK9 experience can give you. Playing very hard AI has should me new and exotic ways to combo with a character that I would never have thought of that they might whip out randomly.

I see you main the Frost, I likey the Frost as well and I use Harley and CW a bit too, if your looking for a practice buddy I am game if your a PSN user, send The-Spore666 a request anytime I'm on...

Anyway, yeah I tend to use the AI to learn defense, the very hard mode is useful for such a thing, a solid defense is important and knowing when to punish is just as important as well. A human player will teach you how to read their habits, many tend to fall into habits that can be broken, the last KOTH I played was against a WW who was dominating the field on everyone, no one could touch this guy, but I played patiently with KF and man did the guy start sweating, he did win, but had to resort to the use of a super move at the right time. Mainly my fault there I got too cocky and forgot realize he would have that super ready to go. Thats why I say habits, I have tendancy to lose myself when I start winning.
