Why is there a stance change button...

Ninj

Where art thou, MKX Skarlet?
Block button makes no difference to me. But there seems to be no legitimate reason for a stance change button.

Even worse is the stance change shortcut of 2+3. This only asks for unintentional mistakes in combos involving 2,3.

Why was this done? Does anyone know?

What makes it worse is there is stance specific moves, or so i've heard. There was defo in Mk9, its the reason kung lao's BNB wasnt 24 starter.
Pointless game mechanic.

You can use it for feinting attacks like trying to get someone to jump by faking a projectile. It works extremely well for mind games.you can also defend your self with stance switch including breaking throws. characters with capes have better stance switch, while there back is to the screen their attacks are harder to read inherently. Its high level shit yo

No.

Still doesn't explain why there is an option to switch it.

I get that you switch footing so it looks more natural at the end of a string etc but why is there an option to change it back that is pointless.

You can tech a grab with various things, that thing about reading moves is silly.. just no. Feinting.. maybe but there is better tools for it and it doesn't justify there being a flip stance button.

I beg to differ. It has the smallest whiff in the game. Id like to see a better feint
also many many fighters have this very same thing. VF series Soul Caliber have similar things functions. VF has a stance switch that just changes foot, and you can fake attacks in SC. I don`t really see any difference in this where some attacks end with your stance swapped and mixing them up with a stance switch. Tyrant, one of the greatest Jax players of all time would use them during high stakes matches at majors. Its really only useless if you dont use it.

You tech a grab on reaction, your not going to just throw a move out in anticipation of one. So that whiffing thing is dildo.

Even if all these points were correct still doesn't justify it's place on the controller anyways.

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
Guard button is unnecesary. Back to block is damned near standard in other fighters and it makes mixups and defense more strategic.

Also as for the Stance button its just for aesthetic reasons. They dont like mirroring folks like a ton of other fighters for when they turn given how glaringly noticeable the flip would be with some of their more asymettrical character designs so your character's back will actually face the camera. Problem is some people complain because like in 3rd person games its a thing that a lot of people hate to be stuck staring at their character's ass the whole game.

As a compromise there was a stance button to let you flip back if you wanted.
Sadly this happened in MK9 with it.

Stance specific combos.

But on the plus side stance dancing is hilariously great for trolling and currently you can do this defensive stuff with it.

Dancing machine. :D

Wasn't this a simple leftover from an idea that dind't work out in MK9?
And since the stance change was already implemented they thought "why not just keep it ".

IT FUCKING DRIVES ME UP THE FUCKING WALL. I already suck at combos and that just adds to me fucking them up. I'd love it removed or have it be 2+4.
