Two Advanced Questions

I think these are advanced questions - but more like how to handle some things.

1. Since you largely have to commit to combos, is there any way to hit confirm things better? Let me give an example. In using Sub Zero's 22 string....ideally if the opponent blocks, I'd like to finish by going 224 xx ice clone to make the string safe. However, if they get hit I want to cancel into 22 xx ice blast. For some reason every time I try to wait for the hit confirm to finish the rest of the combo it seems to late and the combo doesn't finish. Is it true that I have to completely commit, or do I have to get better at reacting?

2. I am having trouble with certain strict timing combos. I don't want to cut corners and do an easier combo, I'd rather improve my ability to nail these. One for example that I have trouble with, is raiden's b321 xx teleport xx shocker - I can never seem to time it right, I don't know what I'm missing. I've seen some people that throw out 1 in between the teleport and shocker. I don't know if that makes it easier or harder.

Make the input faster, then just watch and see to hit confirm, it should give you a bit longer to see.

Interesting idea on making the initial input faster, I think I'll have to try that out. Does that typically work for you?

As far as Raiden goes, trust me, I've spent much time in the lab trying to get that shit down...but it doesn't seem to be getting any more consistent. Is there any part of the combo that you can use as a visual to help nail down the timing? Or is there any part of the combo that needs to speed up or slow down?

I seem to get most things down when I spend time with them in the lab, but this just doesn't seem to click.

I'm no expert with Raiden, so I can't really help with that combo in particular, but in general:

Try to keep calm, don't rush your inputs, try to make your inputs as clean as possible.

Try to snap off the teleport inputs right when the last hit of the string connects, thats what I try to do with strings xx'ing into specials on cyrax and it seems to work. You might want to ask about it in the Raiden forums

Gotcha well thanks a ton for the quick replies, I'll do some more research on raiden...and try to input fasting strings on SZ so it gives me more time to acknowledge the hit confirm.

What seems to work for me is to input the Teleport command as the last part of the combo connects. For example, I usually do this:

3, 3, 4, Teleport, Shocker, [any follow-up here]

as far as the timing of inputs is concerned I do:

3, 3, 4, wait, (while 4 is hitting) Down Up, wait a very short time after you materialize (1-3 frames), Shocker

I am having more trouble landing the follow-up to Shocker. Any tips on that?

Personally I use 3 3 4 instead of b3 1 2 to start the combo (like Raidenwins said). Try going into practice mode, and use 3 3 4, teleport (enter the command as soon as he starts his kick). As soon as raiden starts to appear, enter the shocker command. It takes practice. Now, if you're a PRO you can time the combo coming out of the shocker... but if you're like me try this; Once raiden grabs the guy, start mashing (i know) b3. AS SOON as you see the b3 start up frames, tap 1 2 and do a superman. Input the superman before the last 1 hits! Try an exsuperman for more damge... Good luck!

well, you can do it over and over and over till you know exactly how long the shocker lasts... but tapping b3 near the end of the shocker has worked for me thus far, as i'm always able to finish the combo out.
