Online Complains/Rants About Etiquette, Players, Netcode, Desyncs etc!!

So the tekkenzaibatsu and 8wayrun online tekken/soul calibur communities both have a code of online conduct that the players try and follow. We do it for a few reasons;

1: To emulate offline play as much as possible given the circumstances.
2: To respect the skill of your opponents by giving them the benefit of the doubt about desensive abilities offline.
3: To set ourselves apart from the hordes of lag-abusing garbage that plagues PSN.

I believe that we should discuss and agree on a similar code of conduct. For example, in SC4 online, 8WR players will not use low sweeps that are i23 or slower as they are blockable on reaction offline. Another example is refraining, to the best of your ability, to not abuse unsafe block strings, or as I call them "online frame traps".

Hopefully, with this thread, we can set up an accepted standard of play to emphasize mutual respect and offline emulation. I plan to play online exclusively in TESTYOURMIGHT rooms, and I hope that they will be a haven from the slide~slide~slide Sub Zeros and the stomp~stomp~stomp Sheeva trash that doesn't understand why their tactics would never work offline.

My initial suggestions would be to omit use of low projectiles from jump distance or farther apart, and to refrain from abusing "online safe" moves.

Thoughts or suggestions?

So basically this an agreement amongst players to not abuse mechanics (Cyrax bomb) and to not spam projectiles (Noob Saibot)?

In essence, this seems like fine idea to improve the quality the matches and to reduce the amount of saltiness.

well not exactly...it will take some time to determine what is "legit" online or not. things like cyrax bombs that work very well offline as well, are not really abusing lag. abusing lag means taking advantage of the lag frames to make use of moves that would otherwise be blockable on reaction. easy examples of this are kabal's ground blade or sub zero's slide from full screen.

it isn't reasonable to expect people not to abuse lag in the beginning, but as time goes by and we come to a sort of community consensus, it will become very evident when people are abusing the lag.

in the end, what we want is a community of players that understand and respect each other's ability and do what we can to make online play into a viable learning tool.

Your shitting me! Subzero's slide is that safe online??? Offline that shit is so free if you block it. You can punish with combo of choice.
Playing with the netcode and a bad connection is like playing slow-mo mode. Ex Slide with it's distance and speed, especially on wake up, will produce some saltiness.

omg im sorry i do not agree with this.. could you imagine sindel not being able to low fireball from long distance.. : X

sorry man even the tekken dont throw online bullshit i never agreed with.. i used nina and low poking and throwing is how i based my game with her.

i understand the annoyance with online, hell offline at Power up i was using sindels up+4 to knock Reo's Cyber sub dive kick out of the air, i then go online and i cant even use it to anti air people jumping at me LOL try comboing with sindel online -_- i can do 12 hit combos with liu kang online i try doing sindels simple combos and i fuck up.. online is for casuals and semi practice..

if sindel cant do her low fireball from full screen i dont want to see Kitana or any character throwing out a fireball at sindel..

Let's just wait and bide our time till the netcode is fixed in the next patch (which should be in a few weeks). After the lag has been fixed, I'm sure quality of matches will increase will dramatically.

Here's hoping, though I'm becomming quite skeptical that it'll actually happen. That was announced I believe at least 3 weeks ago with a 2 week eta. I don't know. I like MK9, and I certainly need to improve my game, but not having a local circle in which I can play it and the netcode being utter garbage is really making me reflect on if I really WANT to devote my time into it.

That and I've taken a liking to Kabal and Kano; they both have very salt inducing movesets. Kano's combos are pretty unsafe offline without catching an opponent at the right time due to the risk of being out jabbed and getting punished highly for it, it's very risky online and I rarely manage to land them. His 2,1,2,x3 requires dashing as well, which is downright impossible in laggy games.

No. Online shouldn't be taken seriously enough to where you have to make silly little rules for it.

I hope people abuse lag tactics. Then you'd have more of a reason to not play online, and actually go to an offline event.

Ive played on both PSN and XBL. PSN is considerably worse than xbl for MK online. Sub zero's slide isnt safe online but its super hard to punish due to delay. I was playing a guy online who constantly did Slide into backdash and i punished him maybe 1/10 times on psn. Overall it just isnt worth the headache to play this game online at all unless you have absolutely NO offline competition. I happen to be in that boat, working to fix that

While this is true, it's a bit discouraging that for those of us who do play offline casuals etc, when those are unavailable (Casuals got cancelled at the last minute last night) the online is such a different game. I try to hold myself to offline standards simply so as not to degrade my skillset too much, but it's hard when things like Slide are so much safer. I can't imagine what it's like to play characters like Kung Lao, Ermac, or Reptile who have moves that become completely safe online. Even stuff like Noob shadow clone spam gets much trickier to wade through.

I get that online doesn't mean anything, but it'd be nice for it to be somewhat analogous to offline. Hell I could practice SSFIV online and even if certain things were trickier like throw teching and certain spacing/zoning, it wasn't anything like this mess where certain strategies become almost undefeatable.

As for PSN vs. XBL, I've played a fair bit of both, and quite a bit of PSN since it came up last night just to see some different opponents, and they're both terrible. There are juggles I can do on XBL that I can't on PSN so it seems worse, but honestly it's like asking what's worse closing your scrotum in a drawer or closing your scrotum in a car door? Why would you want to do either.

honestly guys i have played on both psn and xbox, i could careless about which system is better.. the lag for the game on both systems is the same. it all depends on the person your playing.. you could have a great connection with one dude and a shitty connection with another dude.. this is how its like on both systems... the best way to judge this is to play the game vs THE SAME PERSON on both systems then you'll see that its no different.

i bet if i did the subzero slide you'll have no problem punishing it.. some people are just too cheap or whatever and just pay for DSL internet..

not entierly true. I have played the same people on both consoles in different games. More recently marvel 3 and the connections were semi decent on xbl and not nearly as good on ps3. I could see what you mean but ive yet to have that exact experience. (Note) The person i am refering to lives 30-40 min away from my house. I also have an amazing internet connection.

Okay, this thread has ran it's course.

I don't get what compels people to talk shit online, it's ridiculous. They trash talk you if they win, they trash talk you if you lose. I mean, c'mon. I understand this is online and everyone's anonymous but does dignity and respect just get thrown out the window? Maybe I'm just a small percentage of people who'll actually send messages such as "good games, you're a good player" etc if I actually had a match with a player in which I learned something or actually enjoyed playing them.

If this was SSF4 I'd understand, that plays well online, in the current state of MK9 you can win online by spamming moves which you cannot properly react to due to the lag.

I've seen some hate if you play Kung Lao or Noob Saibot. Basically any character with teleports and does range spam is susceptible to hate mail.

When the netkode patch komes out, I'm sure online quality will improve but there never be a complete end to the saltiness of online players.

Yeah, I get a ridicilous amount of hate mail with Kano but c'mon, his balls are overly punishable and pretty predictible.
