Based off of April's TYM Mortal Kombat II online tournament called "Shao Kahn's Teasure Quest", we're pleased to show off these matches recorded by MIKECALDWELL. He faced the reputable Mortal Kombat II player, BTBB99 in Grand Finals. These two both put on quite a show and you will see from this footage how Mortal Kombat II is played at the highest level.

And people wanted to bet $1,000 on a FT10 in this? Sorry I shouldn't be negative but damn, there's like 6 moves per character, 4 of which they all share.

This game is simplistic as far as the moves go, but that doesn't mean there's not a metagame and strategy involved just like any other fighting game. Most people on this site could play this game all day for a year and still not reach a high level of play. I know you wouldn't think it by watching videos, but it takes a long ass time to master.

There's also much more than 6 moves per character. A few characters do share normal moves, but for the most part, all of the normals have different animations and hitboxes, so the timing and range is different for most.

I thought it looked very in depth to be honest, though I was surprised that there are no true combos in the game. To each his own
Imo, this game has the truest form of combos there are. Juggles. No silly string/ dial a combos. The juggles are just extremely difficult to set up against good players.

I understand everyone's opinion. MK2 has never been an exciting game to watch at a high level because it's more of a defensive based game.

I believe STORMS made it a point to mention this was high level play, not to compliment us, but to help you guys understand that MK2 is not all bells and whistles.

I love this stuff. I'm seeing stuff that I haven't seen in mkII before. :D Really nice to see some people playing this game.
Thank you. It's really hard to showcase certain things against good players. I could show you all kinds of stuff against average joes, but not against btbb.

I understand it's high level play and also grasp the fact that I would not be able to sit down and beat you. That said, given the very, very limited amount of moves, it would be far easier to achieve a high level of play due to the limited amount of frame data you need to understand opposed to a game like SFIV or MK9.

I'm just razzing this post because it's not entertaining to watch, though I still respect it and the players that play it at a high level and get hype for it.

That all said, it's pretty boring to watch ;)

The moves, frame data, and juggles are definitely easier to learn than the current fighters, but that doesn't really equate to being easier as a whole. I've never seen anyone in the community reach a high level of play in MK2 in less than probably 18 months of solid competitive play. It's hard to explain, but in some cases, the limited options make it more difficult.

I do agree that it can be a bit boring to watch.

MK2 is certainly a very simplistic game compared to the modern-day fighters, but I find the level of chess-like strategy to be extremely high overall. I prefer it over such games as MVC, MK9, SF, etc for that reason.
