First Hit Bonus returns in Injustice -- Is it a fair mechanic?

Like the title says. First Hit bonus confirmed in a STAR lab mission (link below), how does everyone feel about its return in Injustice? I personally think it's silly; in MK9 if somebody happens to get off a random poke they get a full bar of meter for it, just because it's the first "hit"? I am disgusted when, at the start of a round with smoke, I whiff punish somebody for first hit and am able to do over 50% damage to them before they can even break, and I still have a 1-bar meter advantage after the fact. I'm not sure how I feel about this, but I'm not saying it's inherently bad either. This is something I thought would not be making a return to Injustice and I'm surprised that it's there. Discuss?

IMO it's bonus enough that you're getting the first hit and (potentially) doing good damage to your opponent in a state where they cannot break (or in injustice's case, clash) it yet, giving you the life lead and momentum for the remainder of the match. I kind of think that giving a bar of meter on top of that is almost adding insult to injury, but I wanna see what more people have to say first too

I like it personally. It adds an extra mechanic and mindgame. It makes the game more
dynamic which I like as a player.

If it's in it's in, there is no change coming for it.

That said I dont mind it, if you have a meter disadvnatage that does not mean you will lose the round automatically.

Good observation.

From what I've read, many have already come to believe that this game is going be largely affected by momentum and this is just pushing it further in that direction. Lots of stuff to do with meter in this game, so that seems like a potent advantage already.

How poking works out and the severity of the options available (particularly ones you can confirm off of a first hit, like your Smoke scenario) will ultimately determine how I feel about it, I think. I can't say I'd miss it in any case, though.

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
nothing against ..... it's good to make someone take an aggressive initiative , instead of putting himself in turtle state ......

Not a fan of it in MK9.

I don't think it will be as annoying in this though, for two reason, one there is no combo breakers, there is a clash, but you can't do that until after you lose your first health bar, and by then the meter advantage won't be as much of an issue, and two, 4 bars instead of 3, so I would assume, you gain meter faster then you did in MK9, so one bar won't be as a big deal.

I would still prefer it to not exist.

Fuck yeah! Also when the first life bar wears out, on top of the red bar appears a yellow bar, which symbolizes the clash I presume.

The Clash.... thats the dumb mechanic that really needs to be removed forget the 1st hit bonus

If zoning characters are as strong as rush characters (as Arturo would lead us to believe), I dont see much of an issue with 1st hit reward. If anything, it encourages smart early play instead of wtf rush spam.

I agree that it puts a little too much emphasis on that first hit. I remember hearing Justin Wong talk in an interview about how important that first hit was in MK9, and how that was such a good indicator of who would win the overall fight. Maybe there's a way to disable it.

First hit bonus is one of my favorite mechanics in MK9. I enjoyed the meta game behind it.

I really like it because it adds that "both characters are one hit away from death" tension, usually reserved for the end of a fight, to the very start.

It's exciting to watch the intro because you know both players are being extra careful in trying to avoid damage and get that first hit in, and it's even more intense to actually be playing and focusing on finding that first opening. I think it definitely adds a layer of excitement to the opening of each round, and I'm glad to see its return.

It doesn't bother me. I wonder if there could be statistical data we can scrounge up for how often someone wins a match because of the first hit bonus.

if it's something like you're 9% more likely than 50/50 to win because of that first hit.

I wouldn't mind it.

if it turns out to be you have 75% chance to win because you got the first hit bonus.

well... then we might want to talk about this lol.
